00:00:47.640Hello, Coven, and welcome to another installment of The Missing Witches Prescription,0.97
00:00:53.820where we take a look around at the fuckery and nonsense0.75
00:01:00.160and try to cut through the tall grasses of sorrow and anger and fear0.97
00:01:08.740to find lights that can guide us out of the tunnels that we're in.
00:01:15.720Of course, these days we're starting every prescription with the same prescription,
00:01:20.760which is send some of that light in the tunnel to Risa, focus on a light, send her beams of light,
00:01:29.680let them warm her. She feels them. She's told me that she does.
00:01:35.320So prescription number one, let's take a deep breath together.
00:01:44.640my name is amy of course you all know me but you might not know holly my guest today
00:01:53.000holly from entrepreneur outliers you can check out entrepreneur outliers at
00:01:59.400entrepreneur outliers.com of course the link will be in the description of this episode and holly
00:02:06.660has brought a prescription for us how are you doing mama how's it going hi amy hi kevin i'm
00:02:13.620great this morning how are you doing you know i have uh i have um i have love and peace in my
00:02:23.280heart but outside of my body it feels a little feels a little different you know i can only
00:02:28.840control a very very very tiny part of my universe so that part that is under my control is okay
00:02:38.120the rest of it is a dumpster fire how are you doing you know yeah I'd like to amend my answer
00:02:44.480I'm so societally programmed to say like I'm so good you know so I'm gonna retract that and say
00:02:54.120you know kind of the same thing I'm gonna echo your sentiment inside I'm I'm trying to maintain
00:03:00.860I mean I'm super excited to be here with you obviously in time I'm inside I'm trying to0.99
00:03:05.440maintain and outside woof yeah it's rough what the fuck the fuck is going on out there0.99
00:03:13.800fuck is going on out there i know you were having like we were texting the other day and0.99
00:03:19.960you were like having difficulty even processing what scotus has been up to what is going on in0.99
00:03:29.300your home country of course I'm in Canada you are in the United States and you know the politics of0.64
00:03:37.120the U.S. has a tendency to sort of rise like hot air and come north of the border so Canadians out
00:03:45.800there like it's easy for us to say oh well you know our abortion access rights are fine but like
00:03:53.960that's today you know that's today who knows about tomorrow so did you bring us a light in
00:04:00.380the tunnel my darling i did i did i you know i i when i was thinking about the the prescription i
00:04:10.820was going to bring i i went back and forth with many things and i tend to i'm a sagittarius
00:04:14.940so i get and for those of you that follow ayurveda i am also a pitta so i'm a fiery person
00:04:22.240and I am passionate and I believe in justice and equality for all so with the state of the
00:04:29.920U.S. political climate I have had all sorts of feelings for the last many years
00:04:34.580um and I finally landed I picked one song because there were many contenders
00:04:42.640this song is by the resistance revival chorus with Rhiannon Giddens and it's called all you
00:04:50.260fascists bound to lose all you fascists bound to lose yes
00:04:58.220yes and it's an amazingly catchy song that brings the vibes of a gospel choir and some bluegrass
00:05:12.540mixed in so it's you know it's easy to get in the rage with some good like anarchist punk songs
00:05:20.600or bring in you know Pussy Riot you know Make America Great Again by Pussy Riot was my number0.60
00:05:26.280two but I went with All You Fascists Bound to Lose because it's more upbeat it makes me want0.98
00:05:33.600to punch things less and it lets me dance a little bit dance the feelings out which is what I need
00:05:40.840what are some of the lyrics do you recall i do the lyrics are pretty pretty simple but um the
00:05:48.700the beginning is i'm gonna tell you fascists sure may be surprised if people in this world
00:05:53.980we're getting organized you bound to lose you fascist bound to lose and then the chorus is all
00:05:59.380you fascist bound to lose and they just add a little bit more to it but that's the gist and
00:06:04.480it's amazing you know it's funny that um
00:06:30.640Risa and I never talk about what prescription we're going to bring when we do these together.
00:06:36.500We like to be surprised by each other and delighted by each other, but there always seems to be like a connective tissue between, you know, what Risa or what my guest, you know, in the past few weeks brings and what I bring.
00:06:51.500And that's definitely the case today. Speaking of angry punk music and, you know, our communities and collectives, this, I'm going to tell a bit of a story that might be triggering.
00:07:05.740So trigger warning, um, right now, take a deep breath. Um, July 7th, 1993, um, Mia Zapata, the founder of, um, a band called the Gits, who were like in that proto-Seattle punk scene, you know, some of the pioneers of that punk scene.
00:07:31.420And Mia was one of the few women that was at the forefront of that scene.
00:07:37.320And on July 7th, so like the anniversary is like now-ish, she was murdered.
00:07:50.460Skip ahead 10 seconds if you need to.1.00
00:07:53.220She was raped, strangled, beaten, and left at the side of the road.
00:08:01.420and i think about her a lot because she was this force of punk energy but what i want to tell you
00:08:15.340about is what happened after that right so following her death her her friends in the scene
00:08:24.740the fans of her band. They didn't cower. They didn't stop. They didn't hide. I'm sure they
00:08:32.660cried. But what they did was they started an anti-violence organization called Home Alive,
00:08:41.200and they provided people with self-defense tips and training. They put on concerts in her memory
00:08:48.860and use those shows to raise money, to provide resources for victims of sexual violence.
00:08:55.320They really came together as a community because when something horrible happened,
00:09:04.600and when something horrible happens, we have two options.
00:09:10.600And I think a lot of us right now are just so overwhelmed with the constant, constant, constant.0.97
00:09:18.060I feel like since pandemic, and of course before, you know, it's not like we lived in some idyllic pasture, a flowery meadow all over the world, but it seems like since pandemic, it has just been a constant stream of the failings of democracy, people's rights being taken away, fucking genocides.0.87
00:09:43.580And it is exhausting. And I get that you're exhausted. I really do. But the more scared, sorrowful, angry you feel, the more important it is to connect with your community and use those feelings of rage and sorrow to do something.0.57
00:10:06.760and it literally anything take that energy i know like i'm a wallower too y'all i get it
00:10:15.660i'm no stranger to like depressive episodes where i don't even want to get out of bed
00:10:21.760but we gotta get out of bed and and so i brought a couple songs one is of course the gits um mia
00:10:28.560zapata sang just to wake up tells me i must be brave this is a song called second skin and i0.85
00:10:36.720want you to know like getting up in the fucking morning these days you can say to yourself while0.91
00:10:43.680you're brushing your teeth this tells me I'm brave and then she goes on to sing I need that second0.99
00:10:50.880skin something to hold me tough now here's the clincher can't do it on my own sometimes I need
00:10:59.740just a little more help. And that's what we need to do. We need to stop isolating with our fucking
00:11:17.820phones and our fucking doom scrolling and get out into the community. You don't have to start an0.99
00:11:23.940organization, that you can support an organization. You can make sure that people who are most
00:11:31.820affected by the laws and the rules that are coming out to play right now have support. It doesn't
00:11:40.400have to be national. It can be so grassroots that it's literally just you and your best friend
00:11:47.080thinking about how what how what how and what how can we do something what can we do something
00:11:57.560what can we do something how can we do something what can we do and again it can just be like
00:12:05.680going out into the world with a sense of love that you put out you know like people are driving like
00:12:13.260crazy. The individualism is so rampant. And I want to make a distinction between individualism
00:12:21.060and individuality. I'm a big believer in individuality. I want you to be who you are
00:12:28.080and your authentic self. And it doesn't matter if that goes along with the status quo or not.
00:12:32.880These are your decisions that you get to make about how you want to live your life.
00:12:37.040individualism on the other hand is where we become these like gods of our own religion where
00:12:45.200i need to get somewhere five minutes faster and i literally don't care if i cause an accident on
00:12:51.160the highway behind me like that's individualism billionaires who are hoarding and hoarding and0.97
00:12:57.460hoarding and watching people fucking starve to death that is individualism where all i care
00:13:02.960about is myself versus individuality which is like i just want to be free to be me right so um0.94
00:13:11.320one of these concerts um that home alive put on um joan jett and kathleen hannah now if you're a
00:13:22.040punk girl those names are very very very fucking familiar to you joan jett is like you know an
00:13:29.520icon of just badass womanhood and kathleen hannah of course the founder and lead singer of0.86
00:13:35.760bikini kill they got together and wrote a song called go go home um and it's about you know
00:13:47.300this notion of of fighting back against a culture that wants women to be afraid
00:13:53.400that wants to make sure that a woman can't safely walk home after midnight.
00:13:59.740And they sang, give me a reason to fight when there's nowhere to run to.
00:14:23.400and that's the thing we see we see so much of it like i'm leaving this i'm gonna go move to this
00:14:30.220i'm gonna do whatever i get it that's fine but there's nowhere to run to because we're all on0.53
00:14:37.540this fucking earth together and we are all connected and now we all officially have a reason0.67
00:14:44.240to fight so again i want to go back to second skin um we need something to hold us tough0.99
00:14:52.980But we can't do it on our own. And we need just a little more help. And we have to get that help from each other. So RIP Mia Zapata, Gone But Not Forgotten, your legacy has inspired so many people.
00:15:11.160And your death inspired an organization called Home Alive that made sure to do whatever they could to not let that happen to another one of their friends.
00:16:59.200I hang out with people, but I do it in a, in a way that protects me and my family. And, um,
00:17:07.200to have it be this bullshit reason saying, well, you know, you might steal something.0.98
00:17:14.180It's incredibly, I mean, insulting and dangerous. And, uh, I, I, I could go off on a, on a,0.98
00:17:24.320on a big tangent but um i would love it if you did well here's here's the thing is you know
00:17:32.120the u.s department of homeland security which first of all ew gross with the name um but they
00:17:37.560ran a test back in january of 2021 so their own controlled scenario test that was 96 96 percent
00:17:47.800successful in identifying people who are wearing masks when they ran it through their facial
00:17:53.440recognition software. So that was January of 2021. In February of 2022, Apple released their
00:18:01.160new face ID feature with masks. So if the U.S. Homeland Security Department can ID people wearing
00:18:10.000masks, if Apple can get it through your phone feature security system with people wearing masks,
00:18:16.040like it's it's bs so this is just a a guise to oppress and to i mean
00:18:26.280publicly quash us all honestly wash your spirits quash our health you know make us just stop
00:18:37.060wanting to protest wanting us to you know just just be little be little workers and be good0.58
00:18:43.160little consumers and we will not be quashed we will not be quashed we will not and and and some
00:18:52.060of the languaging in some of these bills even go so far as to include face shields so not even a0.95
00:18:57.680masking like a clear face shield so it's obviously bullshit and there um there's also the wording0.65
00:19:04.600the heritage foundation who is behind the project 2025 have you heard of that amy oh okay0.88
00:19:12.120Oh, I mean, like, dystopian nightmare fuel this Project 2025.
00:19:21.520Listeners, if you haven't read it, we're not going to read it to you now because it's too scary of a scare story to even bring to the podcast.
00:19:29.380But please look it up and read it and go on, Holly.
00:19:33.780Yeah, but they're also, you know, saying that they want to remove mask mandates in health care.
00:19:40.580so you know someone like risa if she were in the states going through cancer treatment
00:19:48.100they wanted to be where oh whatever we don't care if you get sick and even if it's just a cold0.97
00:19:54.540people who are immunocompromised get fucked up so you know it's it's incredibly infuriating0.88
00:20:02.540um and and as i was digging a little deeper into this i learned that i don't think you have this0.99
00:20:08.900a restaurant fast food chain up there but it's in and out burger is what it is you know it's
00:20:15.420in and out it's on my bucket list because i've never been to an in and out well you might want
00:20:21.120to remove it from the list to be honest all right good my bucket list was a little too long anyway
00:20:27.140um but i found out that they they ban their employees from wearing masks
00:20:34.660they just flat out say employees are not allowed to wear masks so you know I've added them to my
00:20:42.280list of of permanently you know boycotted businesses along with yeah that we will quash
00:20:50.560I just I'm baffled and this is what I come back to pretty much every day and I'll say to my spouse
00:20:59.360It's probably a good thing that I don't understand this mindset, because if I understood it, maybe that would be me. I would be some horrible, selfish monster who is trying to figure out how to make sure that people are sick and dying so that I can turn a profit.
00:21:18.240Like I really, I really am just baffled. I don't understand. I don't understand. And I mean, yeah, I'm just like a slack jawed and wide eyed trying to figure out the motivations behind such astronomical levels of greed.0.99
00:21:48.240listeners I'm just like kind of staring into space at this point like I don't I've I've been
00:21:56.320you know looking into this and thinking about it and you know when I mentioned it months ago and
00:22:01.880about like this history of greed like where where did this come from you know and there is like a
00:22:10.000an ancient idea of of greed being like a virus that spreads and i think individualism is also
00:22:18.980a virus that spreads um wearing a mask won't protect you from the virus of greed and0.52
00:22:27.060individualism because when you are even in a room full of people who don't give a fuck about you0.68
00:22:33.700and only care about themselves then you start to get brainwashed into that well if nobody cares0.60
00:22:39.420about me then i'm not gonna care about anybody else absolutely nobody's gonna help me then i'm
00:22:45.820not gonna help anybody else and that i feel like is what's happening so we need to we need to like
00:22:54.040push against that like again like i was saying before take those feelings of rage and sorrow
00:22:59.520and let's do some shit productive with those feelings you know my my great aunt b
00:23:05.440she always used to say and she didn't make this up this is a classic phrase but I've heard it0.95
00:23:11.340first from her it's better to light a candle than to curse the darkness and so you know ultimately
00:23:17.780that is that is the prescription that is going to guide me every day hopefully for the rest of my
00:23:25.320life that's a that's a great phrase I love that yeah because I feel the same way and and I
00:23:33.260personally fight those feelings too you know i i feel isolated i feel incredibly betrayed and
00:23:40.980bitter about how the pandemic started versus where we're at now and for you know the level of ableism
00:23:49.120that is so apparent now um it's just it's disheartening and it's depressing and you know
00:24:00.180to hear to hear politicians and, you know, heads of universities and things saying, oh, well,
00:24:09.340people who are disabled, maybe you shouldn't be going to protest because, you know, if you're
00:24:14.680worried about being out during the pandemic, if you're worried about catching COVID or RSV or any1.00
00:24:20.280other thing that's out there, maybe you should just stay home. And that's bullshit. That's1.00
