Under the Influence (with Jo Piazza) - Breaking News on Ruby Franke

00:00:00.000 ruby frankie who used to be a popular mom vlogger behind the youtube channel eight passengers which

00:00:06.440 had millions of subscribers on youtube was sentenced to up to 60 years in prison on four

00:00:11.280 counts of aggravated child abuse frankie's story is really dark so i'm reading from the cut right

00:00:16.800 now but she has admitted to denying her 12 year old son food and water handcuffing him after he

00:00:21.940 tried to run away and holding his head underwater while smothering his nose and mouth she also

00:00:26.700 admitted to withholding food and water from both her nine-year-old daughter and forcing her to run

00:00:31.800 on dirt roads barefoot. Both children were told by Frankie that they were evil and possessed.

00:00:38.080 Each charge carries a minimum of one year in prison and a maximum of 15, so it's possible

00:00:44.020 for her to serve anywhere from four to 60 years in prison. There have been so many questions around

00:00:50.540 the ethics of family vlogging, and I do think that the charges against Frankie are one of the reasons

00:00:55.300 that this discussion is heating up so much, it really makes it clear that viewers have no idea

00:00:59.640 what's going on behind the camera. I wrote a story for the Washington Post when these charges first

00:01:04.040 broke, and family vlog viewers told me they were rethinking their viewing habits because of the

00:01:08.660 charges. So we'll see what the ripple effect continues to be.
