00:00:00.000 class is in session hey everybody welcome to unlearn 16 i almost forgot the name of my own
00:00:09.240 show it's been a morning already obviously class is in session i am here with the very talented
00:00:14.260 very funny comedian lisa baker how you doing this morning hun i'm good i'm good i'm tired but i'm
00:00:19.780 good you're tired you're just on tour so tell our listeners our viewers a little bit about who you
00:00:25.260 are where you're from what you do why you're so damn funny so i'm uh from newfoundland i think
00:00:31.040 the puffins make you funny but whatever i'm yeah i'm originally from newfoundland i lived there
00:00:34.900 for 35 years and then uh moved to alberta almost nine years ago now uh just about 44 at this point
00:00:41.760 and um i uh yeah i started there and then i came out west and then uh over during the pandemic my
00:00:49.440 career like i'd been doing pretty well um i was successful by canadian comedy standards so i was
00:00:54.820 getting the credits uh i was doing all of the things that we want to we want to do i was making
00:00:59.660 money but i still had a day job i was a single parent and then um during the pandemic my career
00:01:06.260 blew up uh via tiktok and it is yeah and then when uh when the pandemic uh like when we started
00:01:13.000 you know saying okay we can kind of do live shows and stuff again i immediately booked a tour so
00:01:17.600 i've been touring pretty much since july the end of july but the last um say about eight weeks have
00:01:25.040 been um heavily focused on the east coast and ontario so that's yeah that's where i am now
00:01:31.840 the joys it's um tick tock has this amazing ability to find amazing talented people and
00:01:41.400 just push them to the surface and whereas everybody else i'm assuming was telling you
00:01:45.760 know or taking a pass or not quite well i don't really know you know we talk about musicians we
00:01:51.120 talk about comedians and actors and stuff so all the world's taking a pass on all these people
00:01:56.000 until they prove to these gatekeepers look look at the audience i built and all of a sudden
00:02:02.800 right you have you're the the golden yeah well because at the end of the day it's about money
00:02:07.520 right so clubs look at it as um comedians who are a draw of course get preferential treatment right so
00:02:14.080 if they know you're going to put asses in seats and they're like they'll do whatever they can for
00:02:17.840 you so when i started doing the tour i financed all of it on my own uh i did use a few comedy clubs
00:02:25.040 and did door deals but for the most part i booked venues that were willing to let me take all of the
00:02:28.800 ticket sales they would get the food and alcohol um and then i would pay my ex and i would finance
00:02:33.840 everything but it uh because i had opening acts as well um that's a whole other thing too because i
00:02:38.880 pay people incredibly fairly way above like what the industry standards are but um i just felt like
00:02:46.400 i wanted to stay away from like there's some government theaters and stuff but i wanted to
00:02:50.000 stay away from that because um i wanted to support the local businesses that have been struggling for
00:02:55.760 the last you know almost two years yeah so that was the plan but yeah until you show a venue like
00:03:02.720 anyone like you said these gatekeepers unless you until you show them you know i'm a draw and i'm
00:03:07.840 i'm going to put asses in seats they don't even care about your talent at that point they just
00:03:12.360 want they want it's dollars right and i mean fair enough you're a business person i get it but 0.96
00:03:16.680 yeah it doesn't matter how funny you are they want they're like no no you got to do all of
00:03:20.780 this stuff first and prove to us that you're worth it and so covid and tiktok is that when
00:03:26.560 you joined you joined like all the rest of us at the beginning of no i joined in january of this
00:03:31.700 year and that's it yeah and i just really started kind of posting i posted a video here and there
00:03:36.820 and then march my tick tock started to just kind of blow up and it was all because my my 19 year
00:03:42.020 old daughter was like you should be on tick tock like i think you do good with it and i was like
00:03:45.540 i am for that stuff and then i just i came on to tick tock uh strictly as um to consume the content
00:03:54.500 and then ended up you know posting my own and actually i you were one of the first um because
00:03:58.980 there was a few creators i followed um you know just going through the for you page and you were
00:04:04.180 one of the first um there was a few that i've been following like pretty much since i joined which is
00:04:09.060 really cool oh that's nice well thank you yeah that content right if i'm coming to your show
00:04:15.780 what what are your what are your sticks what are you what's your focus what's your vibe i mean you
00:04:20.500 you got to sell that accent because everybody's gonna love that what's your what the accent is
00:04:24.900 there my stuff it's basically it's sort of like across it's a observational humor uh but storyteller
00:04:32.180 like newfoundlanders are notorious storytellers um and i try to just focus on stuff that um
00:04:40.180 is just very real and authentic in my life uh you know relationships dating um all that kind
00:04:46.100 of stuff but it's like just to be a woman in the world you know like absolutely and especially a
00:04:50.500 middle-aged woman in the world and so um the weird thing is is when i like when i did the toronto
00:04:56.340 show looking out over the audience i remember thinking like jesus christ like it was so diverse
00:05:02.180 like that like from you know 20 year olds to you know your grandmas and uh people of all colors
00:05:10.980 all you know all genders all sexual orientations and i was just thinking like because i at first i
00:05:16.900 thought i resonate with middle-aged women but now i'm like what is my target audience and i feel
00:05:21.540 like it's just people who just want to hear something that's truthful and that's honest
00:05:24.900 it is and that's i'm not a dickhead i'm not a dickhead right yes authenticity you know what
00:05:31.300 i mean we are so tired whether it's in the political sphere the the acting sphere we are
00:05:36.900 so tired of manufactured entities we are starved for authenticity and in the absence of good
00:05:44.180 authenticity we'll take any um politically speaking um who we think are being authentic
00:05:51.060 but we are starved for authenticity for sure uh and i think a perspective of a just a maybe a
00:05:59.300 not as quite aggressive and and angry perspective of what it is to be a woman in this society
00:06:05.700 and i know that you've said like it ain't easy in the in the business what what did you come up
00:06:13.380 against like well i mean some of the stuff that you you know from very early on in my career i
00:06:19.460 I remember doing a comedy competition one time and this guy who was in the
00:06:22.400 competition with me and I had, I had moved on to the next round.
00:06:26.060 And he said to me when they were at a, we met,
00:06:28.160 I just met like banged into him at a bar and we're drinking.
00:06:31.960 And I was with the guy I was seeing at the time and he comes up and he goes,
00:06:35.700 you know, when you compete in the comedy competition,
00:06:37.440 you're only competing against the other women. And I said, Oh, and he goes,
00:06:41.800 yeah, like that's how that works. They don't,
00:06:43.560 they're not really judging you against the men. I said, well,
00:06:46.120 that's interesting because I beat you.
00:06:47.840 and i'm the only woman in the finals so like who else am i like who else is you know yeah so and
00:06:57.780 then you know i've had people say things like um i'm not comfortable with female headliner for
00:07:03.640 years there was a almost yeah there was an unspoken rule for years that uh you couldn't
00:07:09.720 have three women on a show so if you had a show that had you know the host the opening act and
00:07:13.640 headliner it at most you could have two women and that was pushing it so i mean it's a change but
00:07:21.960 i think that goes back to seats in the like butts in the seat right because they're assuming
00:07:26.840 and again we can compare this to so many different avenues whether it's in the acting realm or 1.00
00:07:31.640 whatever because they assume that the guys are the guys are draw for guys women can't be a draw for 1.00
00:07:38.760 men. You know, I've been in the music industry a little bit over my life and not as a singer,
00:07:44.440 good God, no. But I've seen it and you see it and you always hear from like, especially if they're
00:07:52.220 gay artists or whatever, like you still need to invite the men. I'm like, why? Why is everything
00:07:57.780 we do about what appeals to that demographic? There's 50%, even if they don't want to see it,
00:08:04.640 there's 50 of the population why are we only feeding to that well the other end of it too
00:08:12.240 is even as a business person um when you look at especially something like um definitely comedy
00:08:18.880 when you think of a comedy show it's almost it's almost uh almost always uh like a date night
00:08:24.640 activity right and yeah right and so if you're talking let's take like just you know you're
00:08:30.000 straight couples so we're talking about these dudes um who's buying those tickets who's planning
00:08:35.540 most date nights it's not men it's almost always women and when men do go seek when a man goes to
00:08:42.300 buy um a ticket to an event like a comedy show or you know some kind of a live performance it's
00:08:49.400 definitely something that's catered more towards him however um that's not all it's not always the
00:08:55.460 case you know what I mean like um but there are men that that follow me that come up to me at
00:09:00.520 shows and say like oh my god I love watching your videos and so I think like we're really doing men
00:09:05.120 a disservice when we say that and I think men should be pissed off to think that people think
00:09:09.580 that they're so narrow-minded that they could never enjoy watching a female comic because I
00:09:15.880 had a guy say to me once and he was a like a like a booker very low-end booker and he said uh I just
00:09:21.720 don't find women's material relatable and I said well you know what I can appreciate that um you
00:09:25.740 know if uh you know you've never you know left your house had a conversation with another human 1.00
00:09:31.880 being watched any sort of you know movies or television consumed any media used the internet
00:09:37.240 you know just never interacted with another person in your life I can understand how you
00:09:41.160 would feel that way however you're just regurgitating a stereotype that's all you're doing
00:09:47.400 and it's interesting and and when i when i think about it in the comedy spectrum and then i apply
00:09:52.540 it to bigger life it's just the way that i think i also think that the groups not just women but
00:09:59.000 any any person of color or sexual orientation or whatever division of society we're talking about
00:10:04.740 the more outside of the norm you are in my opinion the clearer you see the whole picture
00:10:11.380 you know what I'm saying and I think you can be funnier and you can be funnier because you can see
00:10:17.980 all of the streams coming at you at all of the times the only reason the people sitting in that
00:10:23.740 nice little you know straight heterosexual white christian rich bubble they're just pissed about
00:10:30.520 it because they don't want to be made fun of but at the end of the day at the end of the day everybody
00:10:35.760 sees a little bit more clearly as soon as you bring you know that perspective into the room
00:10:40.520 absolutely and like one of my favorite things to do is to watch comics that who's um you know not
00:10:46.440 just that their their sort of delivery and their um stand-up is very different from mine um i
00:10:52.340 appreciate like watching other people sort of create their art in a different way from what
00:10:56.680 i'm used to but i'm also i also find it really cool to um to just be um exposed to things that
00:11:05.720 i've never i'm not familiar with i grew up on an island in the middle of the north atlantic you
00:11:10.440 know what i mean so when i go to a show and there's a comic who's talking about you know
00:11:15.960 growing up muslim or there's a comic who's talking about um you know being transgender or uh being
00:11:21.640 gay or whatever like all of this is so outside of what i grew up with and i just feel like it um
00:11:29.960 it's just it's refreshing to hear another perspective it's you know and just kind and
00:11:34.920 And also too, I really feel like it sort of helps get rid of those biases because a lot
00:11:45.160 of people have biases against, yeah, they have biases against an idea, right? 0.78
00:11:48.920 So like, I don't support, I think being gay is terrible. 0.96
00:11:52.380 And then you meet someone who's gay and you like them and then you're like, oh, well, 1.00
00:11:56.940 now there's a face to this.
00:11:58.180 It's not just a concept in my brain.
00:12:00.860 There's a living, breathing person here.
00:12:03.340 And of course, that doesn't work for everybody. 1.00
00:12:04.700 Some people are idiots and they're bigots and that's what they are. 1.00
00:12:07.420 But, you know, we can change people by, you know, having them see all that diversity for sure. 1.00
00:12:13.200 What do you think? I mean, this is a really hard question.
00:12:15.680 I don't know if we'll find an answer to it.
00:12:17.360 But what do you think the difference is like you've sought out that difference.
00:12:21.560 You're you're you like that difference.
00:12:23.440 You want to be exposed to that difference.
00:12:25.340 And you grew up in a very small town on an island off the East Coast.
00:12:29.300 You know what I mean?
00:12:29.780 you grew up in in very typical when people talk about small you know secluded towns that's where
00:12:36.300 you are why do you think you have purposefully sought out diversity and difference and maybe
00:12:44.540 somebody else won't and can't well I think for me it's my whole life feeling like I belong like you
00:12:50.480 know that that Christmas movie with the island of misfit toys do I know it I'm gonna bring in all
00:12:56.220 of my toys they're all downstairs well that's why that's how i feel like i grew i always felt like 0.98
00:13:01.720 i didn't fit i didn't where do i fit where do i belong and i say that as a woman as as a fucking 0.93
00:13:07.720 white woman do you know what i mean like i say that as like the you know and i'm a middle-aged 0.95
00:13:12.480 white woman we have almost as much privilege now as the men you know and i mean i'm in a i'm in a
00:13:19.100 heterosexual relationship um I've never experienced other than like poverty I've never really
00:13:25.820 experienced any kind of I think poverty and and not having money that's a significant one right
00:13:32.780 I really think that's that's a like because we're not just talking about you know not having money
00:13:38.360 to buy a new you know jacket if you're talking about really not having money and feeling like
00:13:44.420 on the brink of not surviving or making it that that you've been pushed out of the bubble right
00:13:49.840 there so i'm wondering i lived in government housing on welfare like 15 years ago so you know
00:13:54.980 it's just wow i just and and just knowing how that felt to be just judged by that but that was
00:14:00.740 something i could change that was something that can be changed about me that wasn't something that
00:14:06.220 was you know just me right it wasn't it wasn't anything it wasn't my personality it wasn't
00:14:12.060 something like it was it was something that was completely in within my control to change which
00:14:18.700 meant that once i changed that all of that went away and that some people don't a lot of people
00:14:24.320 don't have that option and so i guess i felt this sort of like empathy in that i know um what it
00:14:32.560 felt like for me to be judged and to be treated differently for something but i could control
00:14:37.960 that something and so i can't even imagine what it must feel like to be in a situation where you
00:14:43.000 can't even change your circumstance and you shouldn't have to you shouldn't have to and i
00:14:48.280 think with talking about class and talking about that judgment i still say there's something
00:14:53.160 incredibly unique about you because um and we see this time and time and time again that people are
00:14:59.480 marginalized people are oppressed people who are whatever their reason they've been pushed out
00:15:05.720 there's a tendency and this is the i think one of the biggest problems to find somebody else to 0.53
00:15:11.960 oppress all right they oppressed me i feel like garbage i'm gonna go find somebody else so we see
00:15:18.200 all of these communities turn on each other even within the community like the the lgbtq plus 0.96
00:15:24.680 community can be pretty horrible to one another whether you're a gay man a gay woman bi trans
00:15:31.240 like there's all of these divisions and you watch them all attack each other for different reasons
00:15:37.960 and then you and then if you step back you're like guys listen we aren't the collective enemy
00:15:44.440 but what the majority culture has done brilliantly is divided and conquered so we scream and swear
00:15:50.600 at each other and we never collectively look at them absolutely absolutely and it's and that's so
00:15:56.840 like to me that's the that's the tragic part and if you see it everywhere like when you see someone
00:16:01.480 post a meme about like why are my diabetes medications four hundred dollars but you know um
00:16:06.840 a drug addicts get was it the narcan or whatever the thing that saves them from you know over to
00:16:11.480 why is that free and it's like okay both those things can be free both those things can be free
00:16:17.480 why are we we do not have to step on another person who's just as in just a shitty situation
00:16:25.000 or being treated just as terribly to build ourselves like that's that's not how you should
00:16:29.960 do that because now you're no better than the oppressor you're no better and that's how they've
00:16:35.640 set up the game they've set up the game as an either or i'm the government i have eight billion
00:16:41.880 dollars to spend it's an either or scenario why are we never speaking about our military budget
00:16:48.200 and should we right that compensation doesn't happen the united states heaven forbid how much
00:16:53.880 money they spend right and we've and our governments have convinced people that the
00:16:57.800 people that are costing the government's most money are the people that are looking for you know um
00:17:04.360 like a a living wage or a medic you know free medication or dental or whatever the people who
00:17:11.160 are asking for you know um health care or um equity programs right so you know just to check
00:17:17.720 some balances to make sure that you know biases aren't being used in places of employment or within
00:17:22.680 health care or any of that stuff or education and so that's the biggest um scam the government's
00:17:28.440 ever pulled on us is to make us believe that that's where all the money is going what's not
00:17:32.600 even not even close to where the money is going absolutely and i yeah setting up those structures
00:17:39.800 and those dichotomies and those either or scenarios is just the way that we keep yelling at each other
00:17:47.080 for funding and the way that we keep you know i think about the indigenous community obviously
00:17:51.160 canada our history is god awful oh god and and the the experiences i've had with many different
00:17:58.440 communities and many different nations and you watch how there has been set up competition
00:18:05.800 for this nation to get something or this nation to get something or people within the nation to
00:18:09.960 get something and i'm thinking to myself oh this it's there should be no competition none but
00:18:18.200 they've done that to you you know um and so yeah absolutely and it and to look outside of yourself
00:18:25.240 and to sort of see and to pass on that empathy i think is huge but as a comedian i think comedians
00:18:34.280 first of all have an incredible amount of empathy and and at the end of the day if if you're good
00:18:40.680 you you're very good at reflecting something of society otherwise you wouldn't resonate
00:18:47.160 right that's the thing you're trying to be i mean depending on what kind of comic you are but like
00:18:50.840 for the most part the vast majority of us are in a position where because like my thing is
00:18:56.440 people are because there's always i you're around when you're around comics comics always talk about
00:19:01.320 well the point stand-up comedy and the point comedy is look the point of comedy is to make
00:19:05.080 people laugh there it is absolute point to comedy i don't care how you do it but that is the point
00:19:11.080 it's i i'm not obligated to educate or do this or do that but my kind of comedy is to um i won't
00:19:21.720 punch down i want to come back to that yeah i refuse to um i refuse to further marginalize
00:19:29.160 marginalized individuals um i i want to point out the ridiculousness of some stuff uh i do kind of
00:19:36.840 go after men a lot in my state not in a men never have a problem with it they think it's hilarious
00:19:41.400 because i just point out the ridiculousness of it you know like the whole just the way i mean like
00:19:46.200 if you look at uh stand up is predominantly male dominated um but even in fields that aren't
00:19:53.000 nursing teaching uh social work that are predominantly female dominated fields the
00:19:58.940 chances are your manager is probably still going to be a man uh-huh yeah and so it's like even
00:20:04.280 though or yep yeah so even though statistically when you look at the just the numbers it's like 1.00
00:20:10.280 well the math indicates it should a female should be in this position just just by the numbers of 0.67
00:20:15.480 it um but it's not all it's actually most times it's not the case and it's um you know because 0.89
00:20:21.480 we're punished for all kinds of things right um we're punished for punished for the potential
00:20:26.040 to make children not even for making them not even for wanting to make them but for
00:20:30.440 for having their potential just because yeah absolutely like the then the notion that people 0.74
00:20:38.840 question when women are going to have children therefore i'm not going to elect you to this
00:20:42.680 position i'm not going to appoint you i'm not going to promote you to partner of a law firm
00:20:46.680 because you're in your low 30s you haven't had kids yet but i know you're going to and when you
00:20:52.340 do you're going to chuck your career like it's no way yeah we can all hear your clock ticking 0.96
00:20:57.240 like you know it's just the most ridiculous thing because you know and and even if a woman does 0.76
00:21:02.440 decide to have children um it shouldn't be something that she's penalized for it should 0.55
00:21:08.020 be something that she shouldn't lose things because of that um certainly not in this day
00:21:14.020 and age you know what i mean and to be and and and honestly too to be in the job that i'm in
00:21:19.720 as a stand-up comic because now this is my only job like i quit my full-time job in september
00:21:25.360 fantastic yeah so this is my only job but um you know it's funny because even when people find out
00:21:31.300 like i'm a feminist and i was like well you if you you can't work outside of your house and not 0.84
00:21:36.580 be a feminist you can't exercise your right to vote and not be a feminist you cannot
00:21:42.380 they don't like that no there's a and that's another thing where we've been convinced that 1.00
00:21:47.100 it's an awful awful thing um you know all these feminists are you know and it's like that's not 1.00
00:21:51.380 the case um you you know just by sheer um almost by sheer existence you are a feminist um you know 1.00
00:21:59.600 if you want to do yeah if you want to do anything you want to drive a car if you want to you know 0.99
00:22:04.160 wear a dress or put on lipstick like if you have any kind of autonomy you are a feminist you you 0.97
00:22:11.800 and because and that because that's how you got there but like even that kind of stuff because 0.71
00:22:15.140 people think you know oh if i go in and watch this comedy it's going to be this and that you
00:22:18.800 know whatever but I mean it's it's where we are in the world at this point you know like I think
00:22:23.900 we're just women are just fed up and we're in these shitty male-dominated fields and we're just
00:22:27.820 we're like no I belong here there is a space for me here yeah absolutely and so that brings us back
00:22:34.600 down to this this idea of punching down so very recently and we'll talk about it a little bit
00:22:38.980 obviously Dave Chappelle put out um his series on Netflix yes I hadn't watched it I'm going to
00:22:45.300 admit something to you, Lisa, so don't hate me too much. I don't watch a lot of comedy. I find
00:22:49.760 people that I love and that I'm drawn to, but if I'm sitting at home, I'm not clicking on comedian
00:22:55.100 after comedian after comedian. I don't watch a lot of it. When I heard about the whole Dave
00:22:59.820 Chappelle thing, I hadn't watched his series on Netflix and everybody kept asking my opinion. I'm
00:23:05.500 like, guys, I can't give you an opinion because I haven't seen it. Do I love the fact that people
00:23:11.020 walked out of netflix and netflix fired them of course not but i i still need to watch it so i
00:23:18.140 watched three episodes or whatever three stand-up routines um including the closer which he got a
00:23:25.260 lot of you know the most trouble for or whatever but i think he's been facing it for for a long
00:23:29.420 time uh the only thing like and again i support and i want to talk about punching down but i
00:23:37.100 support everybody's viewpoint on comedy and everybody's viewpoint on dave chappelle but
00:23:42.620 when i watched those three episodes what i my first thought was why do you keep reusing material
00:23:48.460 that was my first my first thing was i heard these jokes already in your last episode so why
00:23:57.580 i just thought it was lazy the thing with because the thing is with dave chappelle um because he is
00:24:03.900 um at his core dave chappelle is a brilliant comedian he really is um he is a brilliant
00:24:10.300 brilliant comedian however um you know you can be you can be brilliant and also be um not maybe not
00:24:18.540 be as um open-minded as you should be that's yes so if there's you know that kind of thing going on
00:24:27.020 but i feel like um when i because i watched the first two and i tried to watch the third one
00:24:32.540 and uh the thing never got to the end of the closer you never got to the end of it i never
00:24:37.340 really watched it in in its entirety either i watched bits and pieces but the thing i found
00:24:41.980 with dave chapelle fans is they're a little crazy um dave chapelle fans are a little crazy because
00:24:47.020 they're um the thing is like i've had like musicians for example that i've supported all
00:24:52.060 you know i've been like i love their music and then they'll put out a song and i'm like okay
00:24:55.180 that's a hot steam and polygarbage right right it wasn't for me but with dave chapelle they so
00:25:01.020 just they're just so diehard oh god they're so vicious in their defense of him and the thing is
00:25:08.660 um with with dave chapelle like i said and i mean he's just because they're like cancel i'm like
00:25:12.820 dave chapelle is not at any risk of being canceled no of course and every cancel culture so horrible
00:25:19.980 i'm like cancel culture is capitalism it's not yet it's capitalism the only reason anybody ever
00:25:25.840 gets canceled by anybody like any company any anybody is because they're not making the money 0.95
00:25:32.040 anymore if they're not making the money anymore people are stopped they're not buying their crap
00:25:36.600 for whatever reason that's capitalism yeah and that's it the other thing is because it's you're
00:25:41.720 100 right it's a business thing either they're not making the money or in the case of say harvey
00:25:46.920 weinstein kevin spacey you know they're costing money right so whenever they become they get to
00:25:53.260 point where they're either not making the money or they're costing people money you know in the way
00:25:57.820 in the way of you know like lawsuits and stuff like that uh being a liability as long as you're
00:26:02.780 not a liability and you're making money you will have a career it doesn't matter what you do and
00:26:07.900 we've we've seen that um mike tyson is a convicted rapist who served time and still has a career so
00:26:16.380 So let's, where's the cancer call?
00:26:18.040 So many people, so many people we can go through that.
00:26:21.340 Chris Brown, I mean, I can't, I can't talk about, you know,
00:26:26.240 so many different people will have careers and have done horrible things.
00:26:32.180 Now, going back to something you said earlier.
00:26:34.380 Louis C.K. still has a career, by the way.
00:26:36.140 Of course he does.
00:26:37.220 Of course he does.
00:26:38.800 Going back to something, so how do you reconcile these two things?
00:26:42.160 So I watched Dave Chappelle.
00:26:43.900 Now, I am not trans, so I get it.
00:26:45.740 We're two women here. I happen to be gay, but we're two women here that are speaking to an issue. And I know some people will get prickly about this. That doesn't reflect me. I get that. I 100% get that. So I'm cautious about that in the first place.
00:27:00.420 But, but how do we reconcile a comedian's job is to make people laugh and you should never punch down. If you're still making people laugh, and in my head, it immediately comes to Ricky Gervais, because Ricky Gervais will say horribly offensive things about everybody.
00:27:27.080 he's got and if you're a white straight dude let's be honest you're always punching down
00:27:31.720 pretty much right you're always punching down i joked about about the whole dave chapelle thing
00:27:37.440 and i thought well you know he's he's an african-american man living in the united
00:27:41.340 states and and this whole trans is he punching laterally at this point i don't know well because
00:27:46.640 is he down or well it's it goes back to my example about because that's the thing too like
00:27:51.720 when people ask me about it a lot of times i'm like you know as a white white straight presenting
00:27:56.620 woman let's i'm uh you know born female identify as female um i i don't feel like i have uh i
00:28:07.260 definitely don't have a dog in the fight either do you know what i mean like i definitely don't
00:28:10.680 there's and there's no reason for me to you know but in the sense of just taking the um the issue
00:28:16.500 which the issue is uh one marginalized group uh attacking another marginalized group now the other
00:28:22.980 thing is is that within the other marginalized group there are members of the first marginalized
00:28:27.080 group right sure and black trans women are having such a huge issue with what dave chapelle is
00:28:34.420 saying and and i feel like that we need to we we really need to listen to them um you know we need
00:28:40.900 we need to hear what they're saying and uh i just feel like it's the same thing we were talking
00:28:46.040 about earlier it's we've been we've been we've been tricked into believing it's okay to trample
00:28:53.560 down another group to highlight our own issues and that's in any kind of way so women trampling 0.99
00:29:00.680 out because you have the turfs who are you know like um the feminists who are trans exclusionary 0.92
00:29:05.860 so i got told that the other day i'm like okay wow okay yeah but yeah but that's the thing right
00:29:14.020 Like, and it's the same thing. 1.00
00:29:15.420 So if you get a feminist who are like, I mean, we're fighting for equity for women.
00:29:18.700 And then, and then it's like, oh, well, trans women. 0.73
00:29:20.880 Oh, no, not those women. 1.00
00:29:21.700 Like that's 100%. 1.00
00:29:23.780 Right.
00:29:24.220 And it's the same kind of idea.
00:29:25.520 And I think like you see it in so many different areas.
00:29:28.980 And I think it's just absolutely, whenever I see someone say, well, oh yeah, fine, they're
00:29:33.660 going through this, but what about us?
00:29:34.860 We went through it.
00:29:35.380 And it's like, you know, we can, we can kind of recognize, um, all of the things, you know,
00:29:41.280 We don't need to ignore one person's struggle and just highlight another or pretend that their struggle is not as important.
00:29:49.300 When these are serious, these are really serious issues that both groups of people are facing.
00:29:54.900 Look, I'm going to talk about the gay jokes. 0.99
00:29:57.540 So I'm going to put the trans issues aside for a second because, again, not trans. 0.82
00:30:02.300 I knew some people might think that I'm trans, but I'm not.
00:30:05.200 So I'm going to put that aside. 0.85
00:30:06.220 I'm going to talk about people who aren't gay and make lesbian jokes. 0.96
00:30:13.660 I don't know if I'm so inherently offended. 0.93
00:30:18.280 I just don't.
00:30:19.340 Like, you know, I've heard there are some stuff that's just funny.
00:30:24.600 You know what I mean?
00:30:25.440 So if you're, like, some of those jokes and observances and things like that,
00:30:31.880 I can recognize as being funny, even coming out of the mouth of a straight man, even coming out 1.00
00:30:38.160 of the mouth of a straight woman, even coming out of the mouth of an African American, it doesn't
00:30:43.580 seem to matter to me because funny is funny. So when Ricky Gervais has his diet, I mean, 0.99
00:30:49.180 let's be honest there, nobody is safe from his comedy, not a single person. And he's okay with
00:30:58.340 that he's like if i'm funny people laugh and if they don't laugh good i'm done that's that then
00:31:03.400 that's it for me yeah but does that mean somebody who's not a lesbian get never gets to make a
00:31:10.880 lesbian joke no no because there's so here's the thing like what's the line yeah i'm trying to
00:31:16.040 understand well it's it's like context and content are important because you can't like so there was
00:31:22.740 this joke i haven't done it in a while i used to do really well too but i used to do this joke
00:31:26.300 joke about a friend of mine who was really upset about the fact that he had to pay for his medication
00:31:30.460 but where he lived the government paid for um uh gender reassignment surgery so that made him
00:31:37.500 really mad and i was like why and he goes well like i can't get you know insulin but i can get 0.95
00:31:41.020 a new vagina and i was like huh i could use a new vagina that's funny and i do this joke about like 0.98
00:31:47.580 how worn out my vagina is you know and i think and like and but it's just highlighting the 1.00
00:31:53.180 ridiculousness of, you know, like who really gives a shit? You know what I mean? Like you 1.00
00:31:59.140 don't need to knock down another group just to show your, you know, so there is a way
00:32:03.820 to talk about certain issues and topics, um, about, um, you know, that are sensitive in
00:32:11.360 nature and that you don't, you know, you certainly don't want to alienate people in a way that
00:32:15.500 is still funny, you know, and not, um, not just shock value or just, you know, cause
00:32:21.520 something because to me that's lazy that's very lazy to do jokes that are just strictly offensive 0.75
00:32:27.380 for offense sake now what about here's my other question what about the black trans community
00:32:33.960 that think dave chappelle's funny because the whole point of the closer was this was the the
00:32:39.880 person that he knew unfortunately who um committed suicide and that was the he told this story and
00:32:47.020 And he's like, yeah, that was the end of the story.
00:32:49.560 And he said the end of the story, it wasn't, you know, his jokes about the community.
00:32:55.580 It was how the trans community turned on this individual because she was supporting Dave Chappelle and got inundated with hate.
00:33:04.040 And he's like, guys, I don't I don't get it here. 0.68
00:33:07.580 Like and and at that point in his comedy, again, I'm having a hard time reconciling it all because I laughed at his lesbian jokes. 0.99
00:33:16.260 I thought they were funny. 1.00
00:33:17.020 but and then i listened to that whole that whole arc right and that's another thing about comedians
00:33:23.720 we love to pull 30 seconds out of what they say and we don't listen to the arc that's a problem
00:33:29.500 it is because you're the end of the joke yeah context is important right but well for me on
00:33:34.600 the whole thing like my because i'm not it's not my world um i feel like my role is to sit
00:33:40.640 and listen to what all sides are saying that are actually living in that world and my role as a
00:33:49.060 white woman um I felt like over like over the last few years I've been you know trying to read and
00:33:55.420 learn more and listen to people so that I can just say look I'm here tell me what my role is in this
00:34:01.280 you know is it to stand behind you is it to stand beside you are there times you're going to need me
00:34:05.800 to stand in front of you um but i will just be the best ally that i can be um but you need to
00:34:11.900 tell me how to do that you know just because i don't i don't i need to know where i'm needed
00:34:15.840 you know what i mean so i feel like that's my my place in all of this is to not even be able like
00:34:22.720 i mean i certainly i can give the you know opinion of i don't think that we should you know knock
00:34:26.920 down one group to build another and all of that kind of stuff but when it comes right down to how
00:34:31.240 people within those marginalized groups feel about jokes about their community um i just need to
00:34:38.120 listen to their sort of their reasoning and what you know because that's the thing too like there's
00:34:43.480 so many times like when you you hear something people are like well that's kind of racist and
00:34:46.920 you're like always how and then it's explained to you and you're like oh i didn't know yeah
00:34:51.760 so i mean it's honestly if there's anything that we should be doing at this point is just like
00:34:57.120 sitting down shutting up and listening um we've had our turn uh a lot uh we've had all of it
00:35:05.280 and so at this point i feel like that's my role is just to listen um and so i haven't been weighing
00:35:11.120 in a lot on the dave chapelle stuff just because it's not it's not my world but all the white dudes
00:35:18.080 are though i can tell you right now all the white dudes are new right but i'm just trying to step
00:35:23.920 into like it's just sort of getting this idea and number one i'm not a big fan of censorship period
00:35:30.000 i don't like it i don't like who controls it we never we never benefit from it but then i go back
00:35:35.920 to because i'm a political student at heart i go back to just because the majority likes it so if
00:35:41.120 that's what we're judging it by because comedians say if the masses laugh right just because the
00:35:46.800 majority thinks it's funny that doesn't necessarily make it right either because the majority
00:35:53.920 has done some pretty awful things in this country and then there's the what about the situation
00:35:59.440 you're in like we like okay so we can say the majority if the majority think it's funny then 0.66
00:36:03.840 it's funny right but if i'm telling racist jokes in um a place that has like an active kkk presence
00:36:12.000 the majority are gonna laugh so you can't even say if the majority because it also depends on
00:36:18.480 so what audience are we talking about who's in that audience but again if we can't like
00:36:26.960 who picking and choosing what we're going to censor we're not going to do that but i think
00:36:31.040 what it does and what it does brilliantly and if i were dave chappelle this is how i would have
00:36:34.400 handled it i would have sat down with with uh that community i would have sat down with that
00:36:38.880 community i would have sorted it out but i mean that's not his job he's a comedian well no but
00:36:44.720 the other thing is too like because that's you know like i can sit here as a comic and i mean
00:36:49.760 certainly i'm not dave chapelle but like as a comic i can sit here and go well you know i'm gonna
00:36:56.160 this thing that has absolutely no effect on my life i'm gonna i'm gonna write an hour on it
00:37:01.440 it i'm gonna write another hour on it again has no effect on my life it's not my world
00:37:07.200 why why even talk about it we're told first rule talk about what you know that's the first thing
00:37:16.080 we're told you know why he talks about it and we're gonna go right back to the beginning
00:37:21.120 it's so funny we're gonna go right back to the beginning of this conversation it's about
00:37:25.520 dividing and conquering so if you can put african american men over here right that culture that
00:37:33.360 group that whatever and you can put trans men and women well predominantly he's talking about women
00:37:38.640 trans women over here and you can have them come at each other right they're forgetting
00:37:46.080 that it's not about who's been more oppressed because dave chapelle talks a hell of a lot
00:37:51.840 about what white trans people can get away with and the power that they've wielded
00:37:57.360 because it sounds like he cares about the comparison that's what the underlying thing 0.96
00:38:03.300 sounded like to me he still has there's still 16 year old boys black boys getting shot in the back
00:38:09.240 and yeah and he's negating and i don't know how he does this this is my problem don't you dare
00:38:15.300 negate the violence that community's faced don't don't you but he doesn't know but he doesn't know
00:38:21.960 but he lives in a society where my oppression is worse than yours.
00:38:26.400 Right.
00:38:26.880 And he sounded angry.
00:38:29.420 He sounded angry.
00:38:30.680 Yeah.
00:38:31.080 And so, and the thing is too,
00:38:32.220 like no matter how much money or education you have or how worldly you are
00:38:35.640 or anything like that, we're humans and we have our biases and it is what it is.
00:38:39.320 And so some of us try to actively work on those biases.
00:38:42.420 Some of us don't even realize we have them until they're pointed out.
00:38:46.220 But it is what it is.
00:38:48.000 It's because we have all of that stuff that's been passed down to us,
00:38:51.220 those things that we hear that are in our air that are in the media everything else and so
00:38:55.180 sometimes you can kind of fall victim to that so i just don't like me myself as a comic isn't that
00:38:59.440 as an artist i talk about what i know if something enters my world um let's say you and i were out
00:39:05.400 one day and there was some kind of something came up uh some kind of situation came up while we were
00:39:09.880 out eating or something like i'll talk about that because i was there i was present that happened or
00:39:13.860 if you're my friend and you're telling me something and i have a take on it and i'll
00:39:17.340 talk about that but i won't spend a ton of time on something that i'm not um really living in
00:39:23.960 because that's my world and i feel like it just really runs the risk of me sounding ignorant
00:39:28.920 which is why a lot of stuff i just go i don't really have an opinion on that specific thing
00:39:35.180 however the the the issue with that specific thing is much broader and it's this and i have
00:39:41.220 opinion on this um which again is that like infighting within communities or amongst communities
00:39:48.260 that really would be much power more powerful if they work together absolutely and again
00:39:56.340 a lot of people and i'm using dave only because it's been so timely but everybody's coming down
00:40:00.980 on dave chapelle but like and i get it i mean this is a great conversation to highlight why
00:40:06.580 it's an issue but nobody's you you get a few tweets or a few whatever about ricky gervais
00:40:12.200 but he's made a lot of trans jokes he has yeah yeah a lot you know what i mean he's backed up
00:40:20.440 jk rowling he's made a lot and he's like yeah i'm not and he doesn't even come close to apologizing
00:40:25.960 for it but nobody there weren't forces of people seemingly come after him and then and then in my
00:40:34.100 head i'm like is that because he's white and he gets away with it i mean i don't know i'm not
00:40:39.300 gonna say it's not you know you gotta take in all of these all of these elements right like i've
00:40:46.180 listened you know obviously i grew up on on the seinfeld show and so watching his stand up and
00:40:53.220 watching how he if you watch his old stand up look there's a lot of stuff in there that's just not
00:40:58.460 okay anymore right there is stuff doesn't age well sometimes yeah right and so you watch that
00:41:04.220 you say well that's not okay then how much do you still carry it on now and and all of those
00:41:11.100 things become problematic but you've never seen this onslaught against his kind of comedy either
00:41:17.220 no um no so i'm just yeah i've never seen it i've never seen it no no and he's a billion
00:41:25.840 Yeah. And I, and also, cause I mean, Dave Chappelle is a very successful stand up. He used to have the Dave Chappelle show on TV and he walked away from that. Um, but Ricky Jarvee still has his hand in everything. Yeah. No, he's got his hand in everything. And so it's just astounding to me. Yeah. That he's not being called out in the same manner. Um, right.
00:41:47.560 So then you go back, go back to who gets called out, what marginalized group fixates on another one. And it seems like there's a competition for trying to, trying to take back that power. And it, and it's no different. And I'll, and I'll speak within the gay and lesbian community and all of the other subsequent letters.
00:42:07.880 um it's no different than when you hear let's say lesbians bad-mouthing gay men or vice versa
00:42:14.640 or both getting on you know not not liking so much people who are bisexual like those jokes are 0.82
00:42:20.240 never ending yeah um then there's the whole transgendered and uh debate and and who gets
00:42:30.160 to say what somebody i made a tiktok the other day a little while ago and somebody i don't know
00:42:35.320 somebody always questions my my sex and and uses the word gender inappropriately and whatever and
00:42:40.840 i always you know have a bit of fun with them but i said something in there they said i said well 0.81
00:42:46.680 i'm a lesbian and i like sleeping with women who have women parts and then because that was the
00:42:53.000 way i was defining lesbian but then i had a few comments um and i've answered directly but a few
00:43:00.120 comments from the trans community say wow that sounds transphobic and i'm like
00:43:03.320 well it does it it seems like it might sound like that and then i had to reflect on that and figure
00:43:10.520 out okay but how are we ever going to have categories you know what i mean lesbianism if
00:43:17.140 it's not what is the category of of that now and and then i kind of got lost in that i got and
00:43:25.380 and and i'm in the community so i can only imagine what people outside outside the community what
00:43:32.220 people that live in areas that have never even spoken to somebody who's gay or lesbian never
00:43:37.140 even spoken to somebody that's trans trying to wrestle with all these incredibly complex
00:43:42.460 overwhelming um identities and yeah well because like the thing with me like for example like my
00:43:49.720 partners you know he's a total dude um but if he woke up tomorrow and said you know i i feel like
00:43:56.100 i identify as a woman my only question would be okay you so you feel like you're a woman and you
00:44:01.860 want to live that um how do you feel about me and if you said oh my god I still love you I'm still
00:44:06.100 attracted to you I still want to be with you I'd be like okay well then how can I support you through
00:44:09.760 what you're going through and we remain a couple I don't care um what parts he has or how he dresses
00:44:17.860 or what he looks like which my daughter and for me means I'm pansexual because I didn't I didn't
00:44:23.440 no so that's the other thing so if you were to say as a lesbian i'm attracted to um uh women you
00:44:32.720 know that have the you know the women parts or whatever i feel like that i don't know who else
00:44:37.260 to define it i just felt like i was just defining yeah what lesbianism is yeah and i feel like if
00:44:41.840 you said like i'm attracted to women people who who present as women regardless then i don't know
00:44:47.580 if that's no i didn't but i didn't say that i didn't say the way because that wasn't the point
00:44:53.080 of my whole thing my whole thing you were just saying you were just trying to be like oh i'm a
00:44:56.100 lesbian i i sleep with women yeah yeah and so i just yeah i feel like yeah if um i don't know i
00:45:04.100 feel like maybe we should just maybe we should just scrap the whole thing and just be like i'm 0.57
00:45:08.000 sex fluid whatever that means well here's the thing right here's the thing then i start having 0.77
00:45:12.160 an issue with every single letter of that alphabet right like if anna came up to me now and said you
00:45:20.080 know um but i you know i'd like i'm gonna i'm trans i i believe that i'm you know a male i'm
00:45:26.920 gonna present that way or whatever i'd be like okay and you're absolutely right i would go nowhere
00:45:32.300 i would go nowhere as long as she no as long as there's still the as long as the intimacy and the
00:45:39.260 love is still there like i could not leave him i love him so that's what's the point but that's
00:45:46.080 the point yeah we are always talking about attraction from a distance when we decide on
00:45:52.960 our sexuality in my opinion it is attraction from a distance it is i look at you and i find you
00:45:59.840 attractive whatever that means to me but when you fall in love with somebody and you actually
00:46:04.140 understand what intimacy and attraction is because it's not that then it's the person then i'm
00:46:10.140 wondering how many of us if we can throw out all the socialization garbage in our head how many of
00:46:16.060 us would cease to care especially yeah like if you could take out like you just said if you could 1.00
00:46:20.620 take out any of the bullshit you'd have to deal with the idiot family members with our mama if you 0.99
00:46:27.700 in a perfect world if somebody could um wake up in the morning and be like um no i'm i'm definitely 1.00
00:46:36.100 not i'm not living what as i should be and i need to live this way instead and there was no judgment
00:46:42.180 there was no nothing yeah i i'm curious to know how many of us would just go cool i'm still yeah
00:46:49.460 because i know i would be like brett is i like he i would never leave him unless he would have
00:46:55.860 to do something awful um and to me any like those things are not awful they're just they're yeah
00:47:03.300 it's that's not awful like that's just who cares that's not a big deal yeah it comes down to what
00:47:09.700 their soul is. So a lot of people ask me, you know, how did I know I was gay? I dated guys
00:47:13.940 forever, yada, yada, yada. And I said, because when I dated guys, I loved, like I dated some
00:47:20.000 great guys that I was even attracted, but there was an intimacy connection that was missing. So
00:47:25.780 I felt really alone. And that's the best way I can describe it. And they were lovely people.
00:47:30.860 And when I started dating women, I felt that it was this, this underlying connection. Now,
00:47:37.100 It wasn't an underlying intimacy connection because they had a vagina. 0.99
00:47:40.980 That makes no sense.
00:47:41.860 It was an underlying intimate connection, probably because of their life, our shared
00:47:47.920 life experience because of socialization, which is hilarious.
00:47:52.940 And there's something about women that I connected more deeply to, which allowed me not just
00:47:59.020 to be attracted to you across the room, but allowed me to be really attracted to you and
00:48:03.700 connected to you for a long period of time.
00:48:05.840 Yes.
00:48:07.100 And then you start to realize, holy crap, we are all pan, like, we just have to be, that fluidity 0.77
00:48:13.340 is there, but it's the socialization that have forced women into certain boxes, certain roles,
00:48:19.800 certain experiences, that that's what I'm attracted to. I think.
00:48:25.980 Yeah, and I think too, it depends on, like, Brett is a very, like, as a man, he's a very,
00:48:32.620 um he's very open-minded he's very um uh he's very progressive considering he's an alberta born
00:48:40.220 and raised man very and worked in the oil patch for god knows how long like it's just very
00:48:44.820 surprising but he's also um very open with me like just and if i have like a meltdown where
00:48:52.100 i'm like laying in the corner i'm crying brett doesn't walk away from that he comes he picks me
00:48:56.440 up. He holds me, dusts me off. He builds me back up, you know, and, and, and he gives me the room
00:49:02.800 I need to grow. He supports my independence. He doesn't treat me like I'm someone he has to take
00:49:08.600 care of. And I feel like those are the things that I needed. And you don't, you don't get it a lot
00:49:14.600 from, because of the way men are raised. That's it. Socialization. A hundred percent. We don't
00:49:20.620 get that. There it is. It's so funny. And I've thought about this a lot because I talk a lot
00:49:28.600 about the social construction of gender. I talk a lot about that. I talk a lot about how people
00:49:32.980 who especially push heterosexuality and say, it's the only way, it's the only way women should be
00:49:37.620 women, men should be men. And I think to myself, you guys are done stupid. Here's why. You're 1.00
00:49:42.720 teaching men and women to speak different languages and be different people and experience
00:49:47.220 the world differently and then you're wondering why they can't get together and stay together for
00:49:51.380 more than 10 minutes and you see this influx of people being attracted to the same sex you guys
00:49:57.620 caused it yeah right that functionalism that enforced categories and roles
00:50:08.180 that paused it that caused it or that perpetuated it i mean we can talk about whether you're born
00:50:13.380 gay or not or whatever i don't really care to ever have that conversation because i don't care 0.52
00:50:17.060 but i'm telling you right now when you the whole men are from mars women from venus remember that
00:50:22.660 book yeah we did that we did and when people say like let men be men and women but what does that
00:50:28.580 even mean what does that we've never nobody has ever let men be men and let women be women we have
00:50:36.100 made men to be men and women to be women we have made that we have enforced that with every
00:50:42.660 conversation every toy every piece of clothing we enforce that so when people say like you know oh
00:50:49.860 i just i i never would or this is i'm just comfortable i'm just you know i'm i'm feminine
00:50:54.900 that's who i am joanna i i'm not i'm like but we really should be questioning all of it and we
00:51:01.940 can't really step outside of socialization ever we can't it's around it's it's inundating yeah
00:51:08.740 and like even me like i used to do i used to work in the trades and so like you go to work
00:51:13.140 um you know in jeans and work boots and you know your hair is off and everyone um i remember
00:51:19.860 wearing two bras so that my chest was flatter and stuff like that just you know and for support too
00:51:26.180 but also so my chest was flatter um and just just trying and then but at the you know after work
00:51:32.020 you know you go out and have you know we're like well we're gonna meet up for dinner friday night
00:51:35.620 or whatever so we all go hang out now i'm wearing a dress and heels and my hair is done i'm full
00:51:38.900 makeup and there's no reason you can't be all kinds of things in in the run of a day in the
00:51:45.700 run of one day there it is there it is i have um change tire on your way to getting your nails done
00:51:52.660 there we go and and that it's like not only do we have to fit into category a and b which is why i
00:51:59.700 hate binary so much and it gives me heart palpitations but even if we're trying to fit
00:52:04.260 into a category that we don't necessarily fit easily into because we want to be in this category
00:52:10.480 or we identify as this category, we're still shoving ourselves in a category. We constantly
00:52:17.000 are. And so, I mean, I really do. I have some things set up so I can speak to some people from
00:52:22.880 the trans community because I think it's interesting. I used to have a very good friend
00:52:25.880 who was a trans or is a trans man. I haven't spoken to him in a while. And he always said
00:52:31.220 trans man and i said dan why don't you just ever say man he goes well because i'm something else
00:52:36.980 he goes for 25 years i was a woman for 25 years i lived a reality whether i felt that way or not
00:52:43.860 i lived a reality as a woman that gave me experience and perspective and a sense of self
00:52:50.580 whether i wanted it or not that's right and now i physically transferred you know transitioned
00:52:55.140 into a man but i'm something better and it's funny it's like he's like i'm something better
00:53:01.300 because now i've seen it from both sides i i am something else i don't want to sit in a binary
00:53:07.380 anymore because i can see life from over here and from over here and i'm drawing upon all of
00:53:13.220 that perspective to create my identity here and i was just like blown away and that's and that's
00:53:17.940 actually a really cool uh like that's really cool yeah just to think about like how you know someone
00:53:25.380 who's lived on like both sides of it and then because they're every experience shapes you into
00:53:29.700 who you were and then yeah had the both experiences and then kind of combine that into one person like
00:53:34.820 yeah that is something quite uh quite different uh and quite special really when you think about it
00:53:41.700 absolutely well i think i mean we started talking about comedy but i think we pretty much solved a
00:53:47.060 a lot of world problems uh we should probably roll up into the un start talking about it what's
00:53:53.560 what's next on your tour so people want to find you well you just go if you go to my website
00:53:58.020 lisabakercomedy.com um and you click like the drop down all my tour my because i have another
00:54:03.420 tour starting at the end of january amazing so all of that all of the shows are there um you can buy
00:54:09.700 my albums my merch uh we did we're waiting to hear now because we did submit my album was submitted
00:54:14.540 to the junos so we're hoping that i get nominated for the comedy album amazing yeah i just if i
00:54:21.820 like i said i was like well if i get nominated i would love it because regardless no one can
00:54:26.460 ever take that from me it's a nominated album absolutely that's huge if i win it i'm going to
00:54:30.400 be insufferable i said like i'll just be walking around the house like answering the door to get
00:54:33.820 my pizza like oh this this is just my junior over it's just just put it around a very large chain 0.55
00:54:38.580 on your neck well and the other thing is because during this when i was booking shows i had a
00:54:42.780 venue say to me um very misogynistically but had said of course we didn't we uh and someone i knew
00:54:50.520 in the industry who should know better who said that i had not yet proven myself and uh i was like
00:54:57.020 you if for you to say that you have no idea what's going on in canadian comedy right now
00:55:01.420 what i said if i win the juno i'm just going to send him a picture of it and say how about now
00:55:05.440 just right on the back how about now how about now so yeah there's that but yeah if you go to
00:55:12.120 my website you can see everything i'm doing i'm filming in april in newfoundland there's a
00:55:16.240 it's gonna be like a pilot i don't know if it's gonna take off go anywhere um but amazing yeah so
00:55:21.740 i have that coming up and then probably another cross-country tour this summer we're gonna drive
00:55:26.400 across the country and do that fantastic and what is your tiktok handle for those at home

00:55:49.240 thing about living in edmonton well something's got to be funny no the oilers i guess like you
00:55:56.520 have an nhl team i'm like do we do it do we though so i'm gonna get some hate mail for that but that's
