00:00:00.000 There is one man in the United States that Democrats must defeat if we ever want to come
00:00:05.240 together as a country again. According to Democratic congresspeople like Cory Booker
00:00:09.680 and Alyssa Slotkin, Brad Schneider and John Fetterman, as well as liberal media pundits
00:00:15.160 like Jake Tapper. Controversial, if not outrageous, if not bigoted. He's a bigot,
00:00:21.680 a danger to the soul of America, an outrageous man with a checkered past whose power in American 0.88
00:00:28.540 politics must be curtailed immediately. He's not the president, you silly dum-dum. He's leftist 0.99
00:00:35.880 Twitch streamer Hassan Piker, a man I could uncontroversially label the single most popular
00:00:41.440 and relevant figure in the online left. Hassan Piker live streams for eight hours every single
00:00:47.060 day and typically has between 20 and 40,000 concurrent viewers with a total Twitch following
00:00:53.400 of more than 3 million. He's a fierce critic of Israel.
00:01:23.400 seek out old targets. This is precisely the reason why I am terrified of the conflation
00:01:29.320 of anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism. The conflation is dangerous. Valid criticisms against the state,
00:01:38.140 especially as all of the violence is unfolding and everyone can see it, and tying it back to
00:01:44.820 Judaism as a cynical ploy to stop all matter of conversation is truly terrifying.
00:01:53.400 a fierce proponent of taxing billionaires, 1.00
00:01:55.940 and the closest thing we have to the long-sought-after Joe Rogan of the left.
00:02:02.240 Given Hassan's unprecedented ability to bring young men
00:02:05.580 into the fold of progressive politics instead of fascism,
00:02:09.300 Democrats should love him.
00:02:11.400 They should go on his stream.
00:02:12.780 They should invite him to things.
00:02:14.920 But most of them are deathly afraid of Hassan Piker
00:02:18.020 and refuse to speak to him.
00:02:20.300 They're so afraid of him, in fact,
00:02:21.860 that they've launched a smear campaign against him.
00:02:24.860 And as a professional reviewer of smear campaigns myself, 0.96
00:02:28.580 I must say, it is shocking to see someone who isn't a woman
00:02:32.800 get treated like this by the media.
00:02:35.860 Today, in this a bit fruity mini-sode,
00:02:39.420 a first, let me know if you like these,
00:02:41.180 let me know if you want more of them,
00:02:42.780 I want to explore the Democratic establishment's war
00:02:45.380 on Hassan Piker, what it's really about,
00:02:48.660 and what they're leaving on the table by waging it.
00:02:50.900 To do that, I am so thrilled to be joined by Abdul El-Sayed, a candidate for U.S. Senate from the great state of Michigan, who controversially made a campaign stop this week alongside Hassan Piker, and who was admonished for it by many in the Democratic establishment.
00:03:09.280 But it didn't stop him.
00:03:10.340 Hassan Piker has recently become an issue in Michigan.
00:03:13.240 Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, one of the three candidates and a former CNN commentator,
00:03:17.440 announced that Piker will join him for two rallies in April.
00:03:21.380 Now to the Michigan Senate race, where a Democratic candidate is forging a controversial alliance
00:03:26.760 with a left-wing streamer who has defended Hamas terrorists.
00:03:31.400 Abu El-Sayed campaigned yesterday with 34-year-old Hassan Piker.
00:03:35.680 Abu El-Sayed.
00:03:37.800 Abu.
00:03:39.000 Abdul El-Sayed, welcome to the show.
00:03:41.380 Matt, thank you so much for having me. I'm honored to be here.
00:03:43.380 How was last night? You appeared alongside Hassan Piker.
00:03:46.620 I mean, I don't know, like, did he eat you? Like, was everything okay?
00:03:53.200 You know, you'd have thought with the Twitter controversy over the last two weeks 0.56
00:03:57.640 while our madman president was fighting an illegal, unjustifiable war,
00:04:01.600 that this was the most important question of the century.
00:04:05.520 And no, he did not eat me, did not eat Representative Summer Lee, who was with us as well.
00:04:09.980 And instead, what we did was we came together to talk about what it means to get money out
00:04:14.280 of politics, put money in your pocket, pass Medicare for all, stand up against illegal
00:04:17.320 wars, abolish ICE, and have a conversation about what it takes to bring people together
00:04:21.140 around that message.
00:04:21.800 And it turns out that when you actually go and talk to people, you're willing to persuade
00:04:26.040 them on what you believe, you can win elections.
00:04:28.420 You know, everybody paid attention to our campaigning with Hassan.
00:04:32.220 I started my day yesterday on Fox and Friends, where, look, there are a lot of things me and
00:04:36.700 the Fox and Friends hosts are going to disagree on. But that doesn't mean that I'm not going to
00:04:40.300 go and have a conversation with some lovely boomers who have been duped by the MAGA movement
00:04:45.340 into thinking that somehow this president wasn't going to start another war to enrich himself and
00:04:50.360 his friends. So, you know, I'm going to go everywhere and talk to everybody because that's
00:04:54.200 how you campaign in the year of our Lord, 2026. Yeah, it also looked like the lines to get in
00:04:58.800 were extremely long. So I don't know, I guess the college students just didn't hear Jake Tapper's
00:05:04.000 condemnations of Hassan Piker. You know, it turns out like tutting people about who they should not
00:05:09.320 listen to is the best single way to make sure they listen to that person. Talk about it. In gay world,
00:05:14.500 we call that the Streisand effect. Abdul, just for appearing alongside Hassan Piker, your detractors 0.93
00:05:21.060 have spent the last few weeks smearing you as all sorts of things by proxy. Your opponent in the
00:05:26.940 Michigan Senate race, Mallory McMorrow, she likened Hasan Piker to the far-right neo-Nazi
00:05:32.660 Nick Fuentes. She's not alone in that comparison. Could you characterize these smears and explain
00:05:40.220 where they're actually coming from? Because, you know, as like a Jewish person who respects
00:05:45.500 Hasan for his principles and deeply rejects Nick Fuentes, it just feels so dishonest and frankly
00:05:53.660 offensive. Yeah. I can't answer to why somebody says what they say, but I can try my best to
00:06:01.520 assess the context in which they say it. You know, what's ironic to me is that the last one of us who
00:06:07.220 actually campaigned with Hassan was Senator McMorrow at the 2024 DNC when they were both
00:06:14.980 there to campaign for then, for Vice President Kamala Harris. And you didn't get this clapback
00:06:21.200 from the likes of Third Way, from the likes of the ADL, from the likes of AIPAC when Hassan was
00:06:26.420 invited to the DNC. But when he decided to come and campaign for me, there was a whole different
00:06:33.220 clapback. And I'll leave it to your very smart, very thoughtful audience to try and figure out
00:06:37.480 why. Maybe it has something to do with the similarities that he and I share. Now, the
00:06:41.800 reality of it is that the reason I stand against anti-Semitism, the reason I categorically oppose
00:06:47.700 any attempt to smear Judaism or the Jewish people is because I love people. And I believe it
00:06:53.840 shouldn't matter how you pray. As somebody who is of Muslim faith, I believe that you deserve equal
00:06:58.780 rights to peace, dignity, self-determination, equal rights to be venerated and appreciated for
00:07:03.780 who you are. It's also the reason I oppose Israel's actions. I oppose genocide. I oppose 0.99
00:07:09.660 AIPAC trying to tie our foreign policy interests to the interests of a foreign government.
00:07:14.520 I oppose sending three plus billion dollars a year to subsidize a foreign military
00:07:19.740 That is israel, but that's also egypt. That's also saudi arabia and jordan and pakistan all countries
00:07:24.780 Who receive tax dollars that you and I pay to provide for our schools here and our health care here
00:07:31.300 I oppose all of those things because I love people. It goes back to the same set of principles
00:07:35.960 So don't tell me that you stand against anti-semitism and believe in equality
00:07:40.120 when you cannot oppose a genocide being perpetrated by our tax dollars.
00:07:44.300 Those two things are one and the same. 0.61
00:07:45.700 Now, there are a lot of folks who want to stretch the meaning of anti-Semitism to include
00:07:50.020 righteous opposition against the actions of a foreign government.
00:07:54.220 I will never be okay with that because my principles are fundamentally about justice.
00:07:58.740 They're fundamentally about a love of people.
00:08:01.220 And so, look, you know, people are trying to make this into some sort of tribal thing.
00:08:05.160 But I was raised by my father, who's an Egyptian immigrant, my stepmom, Jackie, who's a daughter
00:08:09.440 of the American Revolution. I've never fit comfortably into any tribe. The tribe I'm from
00:08:13.540 is the tribe of Michigan. And here in Michigan, we want our tax dollars to be funding healthcare
00:08:17.200 in Michigan, in schools in Michigan, to be funding the ability for folks to live a dignified life in
00:08:22.260 Michigan. And as the future senator from Michigan, that's going to be my focus. So when I watch
00:08:27.160 as folks in DC bend to the power of a super PAC funded by MAGA billionaire dollars in the form of
00:08:33.720 APAC telling us that the best use of Michigan tax dollars are somewhere else, I'm going to call 0.99
00:08:38.380 bullshit. And I call bullshit every time. And Hassan has been calling bullshit too. And people 0.99
00:08:41.840 are trying to then say, well, that's because of some sort of animus. No, it's because we love
00:08:46.080 people. We love Jewish people. We love Palestinian people. We love all people. And it's a responsibility
00:08:51.460 to stand up and fight against them. So, you know, I'm going to reject the smear. And at the end of
00:08:56.220 the day, what somebody else does in their campaign is really not of my concern. I'm more focused on
00:09:00.740 defending the people in the state of Michigan rather than defending myself.
00:09:03.120 Come on, principled messaging. I mean, look, as someone who lives in New York and who just saw
00:09:10.520 very similar conversations play out over the entirety of the New York City mayoral campaign
00:09:16.300 with Suran Mamdani, it is interesting to me how these public figures, whether or not they're even
00:09:23.260 running for office, which Hassan Piker is not. So it's interesting that we all have to come together
00:09:28.420 to condemn a Twitch streamer. But regardless, you see these public figures turned into symbols
00:09:36.120 and sort of proxy wars for people's position on Israel by these bad faith actors. And that's,
00:09:43.500 you know, what's so interesting to me is because Hassan Piker, in this case, the reason they call
00:09:47.500 him anti-Semitic, Hassan Piker's not anti-Semitic. He's an anti-Zionist, which I am, which, you know,
00:09:53.020 Zoran Mamdani is, which many of us are. And for good reason, look what Israel is doing to 1.00
00:09:58.400 Palestine, to the world. That, of course, gets conflated and they get called anti-Semitic. 0.87
00:10:04.040 I'll tell you this, Matt, you know, it's sad to me when we lack the courage as a society
00:10:12.740 to speak basic foundational truths that are the kind of truths that they write children's books
00:10:18.260 about. These things are not that hard. No one group of people has a monopoly on pain. No one
00:10:26.220 group of people gets to be better than any other group of people. All people deserve equal rights
00:10:31.260 to peace, dignity, and self-determination. Those are not that hard to say. But when you've got
00:10:36.160 the likes of the ADL, you've got the likes of Third Way, all trying to ram down our throats,
00:10:43.340 something we all know at the pit of our core is just unfair and untrue. At the end of the day,
00:10:51.200 a question to me is, where do you stand? And too often we've watched as democratic politicians who
00:10:56.820 should know better are now bending over backwards to justify public policies that they know are
00:11:01.860 inconsistent with their own beliefs. And I'll just tell you this, like my second ever presidential
00:11:06.440 election was for Barack Hussein Obama. I was so proud to vote for him. It was the first time I
00:11:11.500 ever saw myself in a politician at all. I mean, you know, his dad immigrated from Africa. My dad
00:11:15.920 immigrated from a different part of Africa. He had mixed parents. I was raised by mixed parents.
00:11:20.460 You know, he is, he has got a funny name. I got a funny name. He is tall and skinny. I'm
00:11:24.940 decidedly not tall and relatively thick. But, but beyond that, like I saw myself in somebody for the
00:11:30.440 first time. And the best thing he did was he stood up against a stupid war that everybody understood 0.99
00:11:35.780 was ridiculous. And he was able to explain it in very simple language. I don't know what happened 1.00
00:11:41.380 in the next 18 years when our party became the party of war again. And I'm just trying to say 0.61
00:11:46.000 that if we're about our principles, let's be about our principles anywhere and everywhere.
00:11:50.060 Because if there are exceptions, then at the end of the day, our foundational belief
00:11:53.860 in equality is not being met. And I just think that that is what people will judge you on.
00:11:59.560 Everyday folk want to know that you care about their issues and that you understand what they're
00:12:03.640 facing. And if you're more interested in what's happening in somewhere abroad and you are willing
00:12:08.680 to send their taxpayer dollars somewhere else to destroy someone else's life, money that could be
00:12:13.460 spent to improve our own, they're going to fault you for it. So don't, don't be surprised when we
00:12:18.100 don't win elections because we are hypocritical on our own values. And I want Democrats to win
00:12:23.740 and I want us to win because I want us to be clear about what we believe. It's not enough
00:12:27.760 to be against Donald Trump. Obviously the man is an egotistical, egomaniacal, now genocidal 0.99
00:12:32.880 maniac who doesn't have the basic cognitive capacity that is deserving of the job. And at 0.99
00:12:39.220 the same time, it's not enough to just point to him and be like, oh, well, he sucks. Clearly he 1.00
00:12:42.480 sucks. So why are you better? You got to be fighting for something, not just against something. 1.00
00:12:46.920 Well, and we when we talk about like this war on Hassan Piker, this war on you, this war on
00:12:53.600 Zoran Mamdani, which, by the way, it's very interesting that the people these sort of 0.54
00:12:58.540 centrist mainstream corporate Democrats pick the biggest fights with all happen to be Muslim. 0.78
00:13:02.880 But I digress. That war is being waged oftentimes not by Republicans, not by the right. Of course, they're always going to, you know, bitch and moan about everything that we do over here. But it is coming from the people that should be our bedfellows. 0.63
00:13:19.880 bedfellows. So on the same day Israel passed an ethnically segregated death penalty last week, 0.91
00:13:26.880 two weeks ago, that only applies to Palestinians in what's been called the very definition of
00:13:32.280 apartheid. CNN's Jake Tapper, who I will never shut up about, hosted an eight minute segment
00:13:39.280 litigating the ethics of welcoming Hassan Piker into the Democratic Party. Now, I know that eight
00:13:45.540 minutes doesn't sound like much for listeners of this podcast where brevity is never my strength
00:13:50.420 but when you're doing an hour-long national news show amidst a war it's a pretty shocking
00:13:57.600 amount of time to devote to a twitch streamer jake hosted jonah platt the less famous and
00:14:04.060 talented son of multi-millionaire producer mark platt known best for his ongoing campaign against
00:14:10.100 miss rachel i pulled all 683 of miss rachel's instagram posts from october 7th 2023 through
00:14:17.140 march 16th 2026 and what those posts reveal is a story not fit for children wanting kids to live
00:14:24.400 isn't anti-semitic if you're already on team rachel or just not paying attention you might
00:14:28.840 not see anything wrong with that sentence and perhaps her most explicitly implicit post
00:14:33.000 she describes, quote, good people as those who want kids not to be killed or lose limbs.
00:14:39.840 Jonah smeared Hassan as anti-Semitic, which of course is what Jake Tapper invited him to do.
00:14:46.220 What Piker does that a lot of people of his ilk do, these are the tropes they use. And then he'll
00:14:51.860 use the exact same tropes and just sub Jew for Israel. He would never say Jews control the media,
00:14:57.100 but Israel controls the media. And, you know, the Jews didn't pull us into the war with Iran
00:15:03.120 and control the American government, but Israel does. Is it normal for the media apparatus of 0.98
00:15:09.740 the Democratic establishment to be fighting this hard against someone, Hassan Piker, who represents
00:15:16.480 a huge portion of their potential voters? I mean, it leaves me wondering, truly, like,
00:15:21.580 if these people want to win. I'll tell you this, if I've got to choose between being on the side
00:15:26.680 of jona platt or miss rachel i'm picking miss rachel and i think most people are oh yeah if
00:15:31.720 you're trying to fight a fight a fight against like a woman who's universally beloved by children
00:15:37.220 under three who haven't been taught that some people are worthy of hating and others are not
00:15:42.080 then at the end of the day you're probably on the wrong side of history and i'm gonna be on
00:15:46.120 miss rachel's side of history forever oh yeah i just look i've known jake for a long time we
00:15:51.520 worked together at cnn i think jake knows better but wow you have to ask yourself two big questions
00:15:56.620 why the ideological push and then what is it about the money and the movement of money you know
00:16:03.000 folks like cnn right the entire media apparatus they're losing their hold on the public conversation
00:16:10.520 and people like hassan piker are an existential threat to their business model because for a long
00:16:15.780 time you had what four or five options to get your news and the people they platformed were the people
00:16:20.260 who were going to be heard and the people they shunned were the people they weren't and then you
00:16:23.580 have creators like you, like Hassan, like Joe Rogan, right, who are creating platforms where
00:16:30.220 other alternative views can be heard. Some of them great, some of them awful. But as a business model, 0.54
00:16:35.740 it means that eyeballs and eardrums are moving away from the likes of a CNN and moving toward
00:16:40.300 the likes of a Matt Bernstein and a Hassan Piker. And they see that as existential. But the problem
00:16:47.080 is rather than adjust and start to create a more open perspective and a more open dialogue,
00:16:53.520 you've watched as corporate media has just chosen to double down. Why? Well, think about where the
00:16:58.000 money goes to corporate media. They monetize eyeballs and ear drums by running ads for big
00:17:02.460 pharma to sell you stuff. That's how the business model works. So you just kind of have to follow
00:17:07.240 the money. And I'm an anti-corporatist. I have been for a very long time. I believe that small
00:17:11.880 business is the keystone of our economy. And I fight against big corporations and everybody
00:17:16.600 kind of knows that. So for them, it's just a matter of where the money is. And too often in
00:17:22.580 these kinds of newsrooms, there is a party line that gets towed. And too often, it's been the
00:17:27.820 same old people with the same old perspectives who've assumed that they have a hold on our
00:17:32.620 eardrums, that they can decide who we hear and who we don't. And then they double down, bring
00:17:37.400 on people like Jonah Platt, whose whole thing is to smear people like Miss Rachel. So at the end
00:17:41.920 of the day, unfortunately, I don't think they really want to win. I think they want to make
00:17:45.540 money. And I think by trying to point to these kinds of new media creators and talk about why
00:17:53.000 somehow they're not worthy of being listened to, whatever they think, this is about trying to hold
00:17:58.600 on to the money making machine that they've had for a very long time. And clearly it's not working
00:18:02.700 because more people are listening to folks like you to get a different perspective.
00:18:06.080 And they're understanding that at the end of the day, you can take whatever you want out of context
00:18:10.200 for a guy who's been streaming eight hours a day every day for 13 years. But there are enough people
00:18:14.880 who are paying attention to be like, you took this out of context. And all that shows is that
00:18:19.540 your whole approach here is indicting of the fact that your smear campaigns haven't been working,
00:18:24.560 should not be working, and are not consistent with the truth, which forces us to ask whether
00:18:28.520 or not any of the stuff that you produce is actually worthy of the truth. And you know what,
00:18:32.180 when it comes to those like, Hassan Piker comments that, you know, are taken out of context, and,
00:18:38.700 you know, they love to make a big stink about like, we need to condemn Hassan Piker, because
00:18:42.760 Hassan Piker said that America deserved 9-11.
00:18:46.180 And here's what Piker said about the horrors of September 11th, 2001.
00:18:50.900 Hassan Piker's past and present is checkered with controversial, if not outrageous, if not
00:18:56.580 bigoted state comments like this one.
00:18:59.080 America deserved 9-11, dude. 1.00
00:19:00.960 F*** it. 1.00
00:19:01.440 I'm saying it. 1.00
00:19:02.220 We f***ing totally put it on ourselves, dude. 0.99
00:19:04.320 Holy s***. 0.71
00:19:05.340 Will you speak to what he said about 9-11 and October the 7th? 0.99
00:19:09.560 Democrats say he's a dangerous anti-Semite.
00:19:12.760 He's also declared America, quote, deserved 9-11.
00:19:16.220 I mean, it's crazy.
00:19:18.740 I mean, my God, you have many of my parties.
00:19:22.880 They're proud to do events with like that Hassan Piker. 0.59
00:19:26.820 Now, this is the individual that just recently said that America deserved 9-11.
00:19:32.160 Piker did later call that comment inappropriate and said he didn't mean Americans deserved to die.
00:19:37.440 any principled anti-zionist any person who is principled in like we need to tax billionaires
00:19:44.540 to fund social services knows that their issue with hassan piker is not that he said one time
00:19:50.660 in one of his eight-hour streams which he's done every day for years and years and years
00:19:54.140 the america deserved 9-11 it's not about that it's not about that look who we have in office
00:19:59.540 right now across the political spectrum people who have done heinous things not just said heinous
00:20:05.240 things, people who have done heinous things to women, to children. And yet there's so much more
00:20:11.500 of a commotion about this one throwaway comment that Hassan Piker made years. And so it's not
00:20:18.240 about that. It is about the fact that he is anti-billionaire and anti-Israel. And I wish,
00:20:25.020 you know, I wish we could just be more honest about what we're actually attacking here. Again,
00:20:31.040 after having just done this with the Zoran Mamdani campaign, where I had to explain to like,
00:20:38.080 you know, for example, like my normie family, who's not in like the media every day, like this
00:20:43.080 consuming, consuming, consuming politics all the time, where they just kind of get the vague
00:20:47.720 contours of like, wait, is Zoran Mamdani anti-Semitic? I heard that. And then you have
00:20:53.500 to explain, well, no, this is actually just about crushing the left. You know, when you've lost the
00:20:58.800 argument, you make character assassinations. And so I know we've already won the argument.
00:21:04.360 You know, the statistics show it. And so instead, they reach for these easy to pick up character
00:21:11.220 assassinations. You know, my Republican opponent, Mike Rogers, here's a guy who spent his time in
00:21:17.920 Congress literally kicking off the opioid epidemic. And then he retired from Congress
00:21:24.600 to a $14 million payout
00:21:27.620 to be a lobbyist for the pharmaceutical industry.
00:21:30.920 And his whole thing is,
00:21:33.020 well, Abdul's campaigning with Hassan Piker.
00:21:35.360 I'm like, bro,
00:21:36.420 like you're trying to beat me on guilt by association.
00:21:38.740 You begged, right? 1.00
00:21:40.860 You essentially would have given up one of your testicles 1.00
00:21:44.700 for an endorsement from Donald Trump. 1.00
00:21:47.220 A guy who talked about grabbing people
00:21:49.240 by their nether regions.
00:21:51.000 And you're talking to me about who I'm campaigning with.
00:21:53.680 after you kicked off an epidemic that killed millions of people? I'm so sorry, but that's
00:22:00.440 not an argument and you're going to lose. And you're going to lose because you look like a
00:22:05.260 washed up used car salesman who sold people opioids, took a $14 million payout, literally
00:22:10.540 made money on an epidemic that has ended up killing millions of people. Right. And you want
00:22:15.820 to comment on morality? Yeah. When you lose the argument, right, you go for character assassination.
00:22:22.320 They've lost the argument, so we're going to keep making our argument because it's a winning
00:22:25.400 argument. At the end of the day, nobody wants to live in an America where corporations get to
00:22:30.380 dictate your future, get to offshore automate your job, and nobody says anything about it because
00:22:34.160 they bought off the politicians who are supposed to do something about it. Nobody wants to live
00:22:37.240 in an America where you've got corporations who get to raise the prices on the pharmaceuticals
00:22:42.040 you need to survive. We don't want to live in the kind of circumstance where we cannot see a doctor
00:22:48.940 when we get sick. I wanted to live in an America where everybody is guaranteed the health care
00:22:53.840 they need and deserve, where you can dream of owning a home where you send your kid to a
00:22:57.220 dignified school. Like these are not hard things. So we're going to keep making that argument. They
00:23:01.500 can keep trying to argue about what a Twitch streamer said out of context. And I'm looking
00:23:07.020 forward to winning that argument every single day, because you know what? That means that we
00:23:10.200 have the opportunity to win a future. Like, like I told you, I'm not here to defend myself at the
00:23:14.080 end of the day. I really am not. I am here to make sure that our public policy finally works
00:23:18.080 for the 10 million good people here in the state of Michigan who deserve a lot better than they've
00:23:21.560 been getting by the likes of a Mike Rogers, by the likes of an establishment that tells them that
00:23:26.200 the best way forward is to siphon off yet more and more of their hard-earned money into taxes
00:23:31.220 that go to fight foreign wars, or worse, go and line the pockets of an insurance CEO.
00:23:36.040 Something that I find particularly infuriating, frankly, is that we have listened for the last
00:23:42.020 several years as Democrats and their consultants and mouthpieces in liberal media have spoken about
00:23:49.200 the need for a bigger tent. We keep hearing this big tent, big tent, big tent. That is to say,
00:23:55.360 welcome more people with differing views into the party for the sake of accruing more voting power. 1.00
00:24:02.560 Kamala Harris in 2024 famously campaigned with Republican war hawk Liz Cheney.
00:24:08.500 You know, this is, I think, one of the reasons why in this election, I actually have the endorsement of 200 Republicans who have formally worked with President Bush, Mitt Romney and John McCain, including the endorsement of former Vice President Dick Cheney and Congress member Liz Cheney.
00:24:30.320 And promised to put a Republican on her cabinet if she won, which she didn't.
00:24:35.820 Will you appoint a Republican to your cabinet?
00:24:38.260 Yes, I would.
00:24:39.740 Which also at the time had me wondering like, okay, well, who do I vote for if I don't want
00:24:43.860 any Republicans in the cabinet?
00:24:45.300 But I digress.
00:24:46.900 Tom Suozzi of New York said we need to make space in the party for people who are anti-trans.
00:24:53.040 Liberal columnist Ezra Klein advocated for anti-choice Democrats, anti-abortion Democrats.
00:24:59.080 So these Democrats are very happy to entertain positions to the right of their own.
00:25:06.500 But when it comes to widening the tent left, we're immediately shut down. We are smeared. We are counted out. Many on the left, and I just want to speak for many of my own listeners of this show, feel like nobody even wants their vote.
00:25:23.840 There's a couple of things. Number one, all the folks that you mentioned spend way too much time talking to Washington, D.C. insiders. What D.C. does is they pull out their telescope and they look through it like, oh, those people over there that we never actually step foot into their state, here's how they think.
00:25:41.360 And I'm like, I'm sorry, but stop stereotyping the incredibly diverse, incredibly thoughtful people of my state because I've been in 90 different cities now. I've done 300 public events. And even people who would call themselves independent, they don't sit in the middle of a left right spectrum. Instead, they've got a diversity of different opinions about different issues.
00:25:59.960 And the thing that they look for more than anything else is not where do you sit on a made up left right spectrum that makes it easy for people in Washington, D.C. to try and shorthand our politics.
00:26:10.800 Instead, they're asking, are you real? Are you really about the things that you say you're about, even if I disagree with you?
00:26:15.480 I had a gentleman come up to me and he argued that I didn't believe in the Second Amendment, despite the fact that I do.
00:26:20.440 I just have read the Second Amendment. And the Second Amendment is about protecting yourself from the government.
00:26:24.760 And at the end of the day, you know, this notion of any gun for anyone, anytime, anywhere is not
00:26:30.720 what the second amendment says. And he and I in the middle of a town hall had an argument about
00:26:34.900 it. And he comes up to me afterwards with a hundred dollar check. And he says, Hey, I'm voting
00:26:38.280 for you. Hey, I was like, I'm sorry. What? He's like, I'm voting for you. I was like, you and I
00:26:43.280 clearly disagree. He's like, no, we disagree on one issue. But if you're willing to tell me where
00:26:48.780 you stand, you're willing to argue with me. You're not telling me what you think I want to hear,
00:26:53.420 but you're telling me where you stand. That means that in those rooms in DC, when they push you,
00:26:57.240 you're not going to get pushed around because you believe in things and that's why you're doing it.
00:27:00.780 And that's the part that DC never sees. So when we talk about what wins, let's think about
00:27:05.560 authenticity because say what you will about Donald Trump, the man's authentic self is like
00:27:09.680 a super ego that exists in a body. And so whenever he speaks, it looks like he's being authentic to
00:27:15.280 what he believes because nobody in their right mind would ever say the shit that he says. 0.99
00:27:19.060 And if perfectly inoffensive was what won elections, then why the hell did Donald Trump 0.99
00:27:23.180 get elected twice. So how about we just say what we believe? And the thing about it is, I'm not
00:27:29.400 new to this. I ran back in 2018. I had a lovely old lady at church come up to me after a Sunday
00:27:35.480 sermon. She said, you know, you keep saying the same things. I was like, man, I thought that was
00:27:39.220 a good thing. She's like, no, you keep saying the same stuff. You got to come up with some new
00:27:41.620 material. I was like, look, when we have some new problems, I'll talk about new problems. And there
00:27:45.680 are some new problems. I talk about AI. That was not a thing when I ran last time, but at least
00:27:49.160 you know where I stand. Because when we ran in 2018, I was the only Democrat not taking corporate
00:27:54.300 money then, still not taking it now. I was talking about Medicare for all then, I'm talking about
00:27:58.520 Medicare for all now. I was talking about what it looks like to build an economy for small businesses
00:28:02.700 then, and I'll be talking about it now, I'll be talking about it in the future. You know where I
00:28:07.100 stand. And my job is just to show you who I am. And if you like who I am, and you like what I
00:28:11.280 stand for, and you think it would actually make your life better, vote for me. And if you don't,
00:28:14.460 don't. But at the end of the day, at least you know where I stand, and I stand on principle
00:28:18.800 10 toes down. I'm not getting pushed around by some big corporation or some super PAC trying to
00:28:24.600 tell me that the most important thing that we can do in the United States is support Israel.
00:28:27.920 I don't get pushed around. We don't back down. And I think people are looking for that. And
00:28:32.300 that's what DC seems to be missing. Yeah. How dare you have principles?
00:28:36.040 You people disgust me. How dare. Much of the anti-Hassan Piker campaign is the product of 1.00
00:28:41.480 Third Way, which people on this podcast might not be familiar with, but it's a billionaire funded
00:28:47.120 centrist think tank that's very open about its mission to crush the progressive wing of the
00:28:53.300 Democratic Party. Third Way opposes abolishing ICE, which 77% of Democrats support, Democratic
00:29:00.120 voters, that is. They oppose Medicare for All, which 77% of Democratic voters support. Good on
00:29:06.140 the 77%, guys. So in theory, it shouldn't matter what Third Way thinks, except that Third Way has
00:29:11.820 something the rest of us don't, money. Third Way, whose co-founder Matt Bennett has also compared
00:29:18.140 Hassan Piker to Nick Fuentes, plans to spend $30 to $50 million on crushing the left flank of the
00:29:25.180 party leading up to 2028, ensuring that only quote-unquote moderates can survive. Because
00:29:32.280 that works so well for Kamala Harris, and for Joe, and for Hillary. One more time, boys, don't give
00:29:37.720 up yet. But Abdul, the vast majority of Democratic voters support policies like abolishing ICE,
00:29:44.720 like ending funding for Israel's genocide, like taxing billionaires. And it increasingly feels
00:29:49.560 like our leaders in power don't care what we want. They are willing to smear representatives
00:29:54.580 of the majority, like Hassan Piker, in order to preserve the status quo for billionaires,
00:29:59.840 corporations, AIPAC, the list goes on. And so like this feeling that I've been stuck with,
00:30:05.300 It just doesn't feel like a representative democracy, where these broadly popular positions
00:30:11.120 and people who hold them are like, who do we vote for if we want our views reflected?
00:30:16.140 We have to understand what Third Way and AIPAC really are. These are democracy suppression
00:30:19.700 machines. Their job is to funnel huge amounts of money from the richest people in society
00:30:25.140 to insulate politicians who agree with them from the likes of the public who does not agree with
00:30:32.500 them. Third way exists to launder old ideas that have destroyed people's lives back into our
00:30:40.540 politics yet again, using the money of the corporations who benefit from those old ideas.
00:30:46.180 AIPAC, same thing, MAGA billionaire dollars funneling into our politics. They don't run 0.94
00:30:51.420 ads about Israel. They don't just come out and say it. They run ads about any which thing trying
00:30:56.180 to smear anybody who is not sufficiently allegiant to the state of Israel and what the state of
00:31:01.560 Israel leadership wants. And so we've just got to call it what it is. And we've got to recognize
00:31:06.520 that they are beatable because at the end of the day, money doesn't vote, people vote.
00:31:10.040 And so we've got to be willing to put ourselves where they put their money, right? And that means
00:31:16.380 we sign up to volunteer. That means we're knocking doors. That means we're having
00:31:19.800 uncomfortable conversations with folks about who we are and who we want to be. It's that people
00:31:24.520 power that actually does win elections. And yes, right. I would rather be in a situation where I'm
00:31:29.620 taking five bucks from 100,000 people than taking $100,000 from five people. And they think that
00:31:35.920 system of politics works. I think it's quite the opposite. So if you want to be able to beat them,
00:31:40.980 help us beat them, right? Let me go after them. I'll take all of their shots. But at the end of
00:31:46.700 the day, my job is not to protect me. My job is to make sure that yet another generation doesn't
00:31:51.580 get broken over the policies that they're trying to force down our throats, policies that tell us
00:31:56.780 that the whims and interests of big corporations and their shareholders matter more than the lives
00:32:01.540 we get to lead. Policies that tell us that corporations should own your home instead of
00:32:05.060 you being able to own a home. Corporations telling us that the $18 million earned by an insurance CEO
00:32:10.340 was earned justifiably and that we cannot ever imagine healthcare without those big corporate
00:32:15.960 insurance companies. If you oppose those things, help us lead that forward, be a part of campaigns
00:32:21.000 like mine, campaigns across the country that are stepping up, stepping out, taking them on and
00:32:26.420 beating them. Politico asked 14 potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidates if they would
00:32:32.360 appear on Hassan Piker's live stream. Again, very funny that this is becoming a litmus test. He is
00:32:37.420 a Twitch streamer. Only three said that they would. Among those who said they would not appear
00:32:43.180 alongside Hassan were Cory Booker. Do you know who Cory Booker has appeared alongside multiple times?
00:32:49.620 Who? Benjamin Netanyahu. Yeah. Yeah, that part. He won't even say he's a war criminal.
00:32:56.420 How many people you got to kill? How many kids you got to kill to be called a war criminal? 0.87
00:33:01.060 You know, I guess millions of dollars, APAC dollars buys your voice box.
00:33:04.620 And another who refused to appear alongside Hassan was Alyssa Slotkin, who is a senator who's voted multiple times to send billions of dollars to aid Israel's genocide. 0.92
00:33:16.220 And then Alyssa Slotkin just last week did happily go on Bill Maher's show.
00:33:22.800 Bill Maher, who has called Islam, quote, the motherlode of bad ideas,
00:33:27.420 who is currently cheering on Donald Trump's illegal war in Iran,
00:33:32.860 saying that he knows he should be against it, but he isn't.
00:33:36.020 He said his bigotry towards Muslims can't be racist
00:33:38.900 because people of all races can be Muslim.
00:33:41.720 The list goes on.
00:33:43.080 And none of this seems to bother Alyssa Slotkin, I guess,
00:33:46.360 as much as Hassan Piker being against the genocide of Palestinians. 0.61
00:33:50.740 I just want to ask, as a Muslim man, I'd imagine you have feelings about the unique past that so much of this country, including this wing of the Democratic Party, makes for Islamophobia. 0.93
00:34:02.680 I do. And at the end of the day, my job here is not to defend myself.
00:34:06.020 My job here is to defend the good people in Michigan who've had a bum deal.
00:34:10.320 I know what I'm in for.
00:34:12.000 I know that I pray the wrong way for a lot of people.
00:34:14.740 I've got the wrong skin color.
00:34:15.760 My family comes from the wrong place.
00:34:17.320 I got the wrong name.
00:34:18.400 and at the end of the day, I have watched a lot of people suffer a lot worse. I've been really
00:34:24.700 privileged and blessed in my life. So I don't begrudge politicians for going anywhere and
00:34:30.160 talking to anybody, but I do begrudge a double standard that says you can talk to some folks,
00:34:35.020 but not others. So look, Bill Maher wants to have me on a show. I'll go on a show, right? I'll prove
00:34:39.920 to him what it looks like to get completely owned by a Muslim guy. So I'm happy to go everywhere and 1.00
00:34:45.760 talk to everyone. I've been consistent about that, but please don't, don't play this platform game
00:34:50.540 where you platform police or you engage in this cancel culture and then pretend that you're not
00:34:55.300 right. Because at the end of the day, if you are somebody who wants to go everywhere,
00:34:58.140 you want to carry your, your positions and to have conversations with folks you think
00:35:01.080 you can persuade. Great. That's, that's what good politics is about. That's exactly what I'm doing,
00:35:04.920 which is why I would appear with Hassan Piker. I would go on Fox and friends. I'd sit down with
00:35:09.660 Joe Rogan and I'd go on Bill Maher, despite the terrible things he said about people who pray like
00:35:14.240 I do. But don't then tell me what you can do or you can't do and try to have it both ways.
00:35:19.780 Yeah. Before we go, Abdul, I'd be remiss to ignore a growing elephant in the room, 0.94
00:35:24.900 which is that I keep getting messages from people who listen to my show
00:35:28.800 wondering why they're agreeing with people like Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, Marjorie Taylor
00:35:35.560 Green when those people forcefully and unequivocally call for the end of foreign wars and
00:35:41.300 genocides, for our tax dollars to fund schools and not bombs. And, you know, I always try to
00:35:47.940 explain to those people that those pundits aren't coming from an ethic of equality, that they're
00:35:54.280 still Christian nationalists, that much of their criticism of Israel is folded into anti-Semitic
00:36:01.100 worldviews. And yet when groups like AIPAC and Third Way and liberal mainstream media outlets
00:36:07.960 crush any criticism of Israel within the Democratic Party the way that we've seen them do to Hassan
00:36:13.880 and you by proxy. It feels like the party has allowed itself to be completely outflanked on
00:36:21.060 this issue. And frankly, it's embarrassing. Like, I don't want to see my friends retweeting Tucker
00:36:27.040 Carlson. This brings me no joy. So how do you see Democrats like actually becoming leaders on these
00:36:32.720 issues again? Basic human morality. Go back to your principles. You know, go back to your
00:36:37.460 principles. And I think your point is really important that just because they got to a
00:36:41.900 conclusion that you agree with doesn't necessarily mean they got there the right way or agree with
00:36:46.360 your principles. You know, what you should be looking for is somebody who clearly states their
00:36:50.260 principles and then applies their principles everywhere. The mistake too many Democrats make
00:36:54.300 is that they state their principles and then their conclusions don't actually align with their
00:36:58.320 principles. And then you've got folks like the others you mentioned whose outcomes seem consistent,
00:37:03.900 but the principles are off. You want alignment between what you say you believe and then what
00:37:09.140 that means, regardless of the circumstance that you're applying it to. That is the kind of clarity
00:37:13.920 that we all need. And I'm calling on Democrats to stop bending to the winds of the likes of an
00:37:19.620 APAC or a corporate PAC when they tell you what you can and cannot believe, but instead state
00:37:24.200 your principles and then follow those principles where they lead. Have the courage of your
00:37:28.180 convictions to apply them openly and honestly. And what you'll find is that people will respect that.
00:37:33.280 I think too many people want to be liked. Don't, don't try to be liked. You know, your job at the
00:37:36.780 end of the day is to be respected for what you believe. Right. And at the end of the day,
00:37:39.720 there are going to be some people who disagree with you and that's okay. And I will just tell
00:37:43.760 folks like, you know, we play this game where there's like good and evil. And like, at the end
00:37:47.940 of the day, like there are going to be things you agree with, with people you deeply disagree with.
00:37:52.280 And they're going to be things you disagree with, with people you generally agree with.
00:37:55.660 That's just human nature, right? All of us have had parents and, and, and we have significant
00:38:00.280 others. And, uh, we have, you know, siblings and we have children and generally you agree with
00:38:05.120 those people on a lot of things. And then every once in a while they come with an opinion, you're
00:38:07.460 like, wait, what, how does that apply? So I just think we've got to stop being so precious about
00:38:12.300 this sorting that social media and our system of politics tries to force us into. And I'm asking
00:38:18.700 people to keep an open mind and to hold a very clear standard, ask people what their principles
00:38:24.600 are, and then make sure that they apply their principles linearly in every situation. That's
00:38:29.640 what I try to do in my politics, and where I'm inconsistent, call me out. Let's have a
00:38:34.340 conversation about it. Let me explain to you why I believe what I believe. But hold me accountable
00:38:38.280 to that. What are my principles and how do they apply? Abdul Al-Sayed, thank you for your time.
00:38:43.260 I usually ask guests on this podcast where to support their work. Where should they support
00:38:48.760 your Patreon? But in this case, you're running for the US Senate. So where can people support
00:38:53.780 your campaign? Abdul4Senate.com. If you haven't signed up to volunteer, please do. If you can
00:38:58.860 chip us off five bucks, 10 bucks. It goes a long way. I'm the only candidate in my race who's never
00:39:02.380 taken a dime of corporate money. AIPAC has called me the most dangerous opponent to the US-Israel
00:39:06.880 relationship. Hell yeah. I wish they made a t-shirt. I'd wear it with pride. So I hope that
00:39:12.120 folks will support us and follow us on social media, share our stuff, tell your friends,
00:39:16.280 have conversations. If you're in Michigan, have those conversations with your friends and loved
00:39:19.500 ones, with your parents about why it is that you support us and what we can do to win. We've got
00:39:23.580 four months left in this race for the primary and then another three months after that. And then
00:39:27.480 from there six years to try and make some change. At the end of the day, it's not just about winning
00:39:31.280 a US Senate seat, right? People talk about electability, but then the question for me is
00:39:35.100 elected to do what? So make sure that you know what the folks who will hold that seat are going
00:39:40.140 to do with that seat. It's not enough to just have a color or a letter. It's about what you're
00:39:44.100 fighting for. And my hope is that I can go and use that seat every single day to advance in America
00:39:49.280 where corporations no longer dictate our future, where we're putting money back in pockets and
00:39:53.100 we're passing Medicare for All. And thank you, dear listener, for tuning in for this episode,
00:39:58.680 a mini-sode, a first on A Bit Fruity. I know if you come here every other week for my two-hour
00:40:04.500 long deep dive episodes, probably didn't expect to hear from me on an off week, but can't shut
00:40:10.000 me up that easily. These smear campaigns move fast and sometimes we just gotta move on them
00:40:16.220 here at a bit fruity hq in all seriousness it is a real joy to at this point be able to
00:40:22.580 leverage this platform not only to speak truth to power as i see it but also to help out the
00:40:29.760 campaigns of future leaders that i and hopefully you really believe in so thank you so much to
00:40:36.100 dr abdul el-sayed for joining me on this episode today thank you for taking the time to tune in
00:40:41.840 If you would like more of this show, there is a brand new bonus episode on Israel's princess
00:40:48.560 of propaganda, Noah Tishby, up now on Patreon that will be linked in the episode description.
00:40:55.560 Noah Tishby is a truly fascinating, if exhausting, figure. Matt Lieb of the Bad Hasbara podcast and
00:41:05.260 myself take a really good look at her for about two hours. So if you'd like to tune in,
00:41:10.820 you can catch us on Patreon. Otherwise, I will catch you next week, and until then, stay fruity.
