00:01:54.720Amour Lynx, fabulous artist and musician,
00:01:59.480Christopher Marmaleho, author of Red Tarot,
00:02:02.460and Patti Croweck, author of Becoming Kin and Bad Indians Book Club.
00:02:10.780So thank you to the Missing Witches Coven and thank you to my guests for joining me to kick
00:02:16.900off the sixth annual Missing Witches Reparations fundraiser. Quick note, this year we've gathered
00:02:24.920over $6,000 in prizes to celebrate the sixth year we went hard. $6,000 were the prizes waiting to be
00:02:33.840won. For us, the month of May is an opportunity to direct resources toward a re-indigenized world0.97
00:02:42.540and refocus our spotlight on the vast and prismatic ways that First Nations artists,
00:02:50.540authors, thinkers, and creators are midwifing new worlds into being.
00:02:59.420For me personally, it's become less about making reparations for the past, although that is still
00:03:05.080an important guidepost, but more about funding the future. What revolution do I want to be funding?
00:03:14.520and that is re-indigenizing the world um if you noticed me use an incredible turn of phrase
00:03:23.320midwifing new worlds that comes from bad indians book club by patty krawick so i'm just going to
00:03:31.280read a quick paragraph here there is something defiant about being a bad indian about leaning
00:03:41.620into these negative stereotypes, something adolescent and feral. If I'm going to get0.99
00:03:47.800into trouble anyway, I might as well deserve it. This book is, ultimately, a book about refusal.
00:03:57.320Refusing political categories and borders and violence that come with them. Refusing to
00:04:03.000assimilate by becoming the kind of person the state cannot assimilate. It's written by a bad
00:04:10.340Indian, who doesn't just want to survive this current apocalypse. I want to join with others,0.99
00:04:19.280bad Indians and more, to midwife new worlds into being.1.00
00:04:27.700So GDC, Patty, Chris, Lynx, thank you so much once again for joining me to kick off the MWRF0.99
00:04:39.1402026 and to midwife new worlds into being so let's start with patty can you unpack this metaphor a
00:04:49.000little bit for me of the the midwife and the new world both halves of the metaphor
00:04:55.840well could we talk in movements you know movement building and movement spaces we talk a lot about
00:05:05.200you know, emerging worlds and world built, you know, world building. We talk a lot about world
00:05:09.420building. And I think worlds, I don't know that we're necessarily building worlds. I think worlds
00:05:22.660are coming. And we can choose to be part of their emergence or not. And midwives, I mean, I went to
00:05:31.320high school I had to have a high school friend who became a midwife I've known midwives I've
00:05:35.540known doulas I know death doulas um actually death doula training is something that intrigues me but
00:05:42.200I need new projects like I need a hole in the head I do not need any new projects um but these
00:05:48.980are all people who just help guide the transition right from one world to another from one way of
00:05:55.520existing. And, and so that's kind of what I was thinking was not so much world building
00:05:59.960as helping with that transition with bringing something new. Cause I mean, we could call it
00:06:07.780anything that we like, right. We, you know, we turn on the phones or the TV and we know that
00:06:13.540things are changing, right? We know that it's not mysterious. It's not mystical. It's happening in
00:06:21.320front of us but what do we want that new world to look like how do we want to engage with and
00:06:26.360participate in that new world how are we getting each other ready for whatever is coming so that
00:06:33.860we can meet it well that's what i'm thinking that's what i was thinking about and so not just
00:06:39.040bad indians with but also others who else are we this book is very much and my thinking is very
00:06:46.480much about broad coalitions who are we working with who else is out there doing this work right
00:06:52.720because nobody we're never doing it alone um and we're not inventing anything new right these
00:06:59.300movements have been around for decades centuries millennia right we want people to reach back into
00:07:04.120their stories into their own stories they don't need our stories can guide the way right but
00:07:09.220everything you need is in your own stories it's in your own history you just got to pick the
00:07:15.680colonial garbage off of it and for some of us that's harder than others it's for maybe further
00:07:20.360back but that's what I was thinking I was thinking how because that's the work of a midwife is to
00:07:26.420help the mom help the family help the baby you know is to do that work the midwife isn't the
00:07:32.000one who's building anything but the but none of it happens without her so that's what I was thinking
00:07:38.480and there's and there's something in there too about um the the birth giver sort of making a
00:07:44.980deal with life and death right that when you're ushering in these new worlds and in in humans
00:07:51.500and in animals you know the process of giving birth is life-threatening but it's also the exact
00:07:57.700opposite it's life-giving and life-threatening and i think um maybe we've lost a bit of sight
00:08:04.560of that that revolutionary work is dangerous and messy and messy if you've ever seen a birth
00:08:14.400that's messy yeah we can't have a clean revolution we can't have a clean birth
00:08:22.740um links I want to talk about your work you are are or have been um working with augmented reality
00:08:33.300and and I love this first of all it's like you know you work with technology
00:08:39.180um and we've talked about this so much in the past that we don't really need to get into it now
00:08:45.020but this meeting place of you know ancient um tribal primordial even versus like super contemporary
00:08:55.260future but i want to know about your version of the world when you augment reality digitally like
00:09:03.900what are you what are you doing um materially what are you hoping how are you hoping to augment
00:09:11.000the world in like outside the gallery i know it's a big question hi i love you how are you
00:09:19.260hearing patty's um excerpt is endlessly inspiring and just like changed and shifted my mood from the
00:09:31.160day so really grateful to be around all of you again and this is a big question I think
00:09:39.920and as uh as you were all speaking it brought into mind like language and reconnecting with
00:09:51.200language. And recently, I started, I don't know, I started working at a friendship center doing
00:10:01.980like beginner language lessons of my traditional language as a beginner. And I kept telling the
00:10:08.360students, I'm not a teacher, I'm a mentor, because I don't know my shit. But there's something about0.99
00:10:15.580worldview and it being intrinsically tied to how you speak and how you situate or position yourself
00:10:23.820to land and space the cosmos as well as just like where you are in physical orientation like your
00:10:32.880coordinates and place names but most recently in our last class we were talking about how animals
00:10:41.940got their names and there's a knowledge keeper in the east coast ernest johnson who uh spoke
00:10:49.860um to to a group and i found it online and there's a word that they have for the
00:10:57.860the squirrel and it's uh a doodoo a doodoo witch and the root word or in there before you add like
00:11:11.340the suffix that makes it an animal is storyteller and that has to do with like the way it puts its
00:11:17.820paws near its mouth and so i think when you're creating new worlds it's this it's this combination
00:11:26.540of everything that you embody through how you exist in your body in your mind your spirit and
00:11:34.360as you have that worldview around being in interconnectedness around you and the augmented
00:11:45.700reality piece was an embodied work I don't want to say that word because it almost sounds a little
00:11:53.020pretentious but I don't mean it in that way I meant it in the way that
00:11:58.840I was building a garden I was building a native garden and I was studying the leaves and the
00:12:08.100placements and what grows beside each other and what the soil needs and what bugs like these
00:12:13.440things how are those interdependent relationships um necessary and that capitalism versus um
00:12:25.600not capitalism view of looking at the world where you isolate things into little compartments just
00:12:32.340does not work with nature um you can't have an ecosystem in a self-contained
00:12:41.040um hostile sterile environment it has all these things existing and living in that ecosystem
00:12:48.840there's like soil is worm shit soil is full of bugs soil is full of everything that came before0.93
00:12:58.040our ashes and everything else but all of those pre-existing conditions are what creates the0.97
00:13:07.920habitat for those things to thrive so when I made the augmented reality I was drawing pictures of
00:13:14.220the plants while trying to make them go and give them everything that they need and taking a
00:13:20.340compromised plot like in my garden that was just like you know it was really sad looking it wasn't
00:13:29.160like rich earth it was you know not cared for for a long time and making sure that you're placing
00:13:37.820it in the right sun sunlight and all these things but then the augmented reality is to sort of
00:13:46.540subvert what we see right now so when you're when you have the phone app um engaged you see the
00:13:58.580buildings around you you see concrete you see um you know tropical plants that maybe aren't from
00:14:06.620here and then you have these native plants that are thriving up on top of it imagining this future
00:14:14.140of what what it would look like when things are better
00:14:19.640so your your augmented reality is a reimagining of a possible future
00:14:28.340that's what i hope it's sort of taking in all those um prayers
00:14:36.040and the patience of not knowing what's going to happen when you go into the darkness and
00:14:43.740just put some trust in the soil in the form of a seed and not know what's going to happen at all
00:14:51.740and um just really allow it that that space to say that you won't know right away what's going
00:15:03.520to happen sometimes these effects take years to even show any kind of influence or impact
00:15:10.480i love this a seed as a container for trust that your trust takes the form of the seed0.99
00:15:18.640and then as we go out into this world we take our hopes and we put them in worm shit0.95
00:15:23.840and then we pray and tend and nurture and tend
00:15:29.880thank you links chris i know you are midwifing new worlds i know you are crossing thresholds
00:15:41.480tell me about the thresholds that you're crossing and the world that you're birthing
00:15:47.280tell me about your reality augmented or otherwise
00:15:52.040my gosh i love um this connection that that is that we're having around midwifing um death
00:16:01.380doulaing doulaing and then gardening you know in this way um gardening a few uh gardener is
00:16:09.180a futurist of course this is often said right oh my goodness and i certainly really relate to that
00:16:17.120um i i like to say like i think about my work uh i try to think about my work like beyonce
00:16:23.520meaning like that there is a there's different scales like that's i feel
00:16:33.200you know what is that film um mad max fury road and they were saving the cro like the crones had
00:16:39.840all the seeds for the future you know that like in this that they were like revolutionarily
00:16:45.280like fighting to go and and turn the desert wasteland back into the garden back into this
00:16:52.440femme led cultivated curated space and i feel like that crone you know um there is a sense of
00:17:00.660being also visionary in a way of receiving you know that i just like i just have to keep up with
00:17:10.580and be patient because the things that I'm trying to birth and realize and be a vessel for
00:17:17.100have such different scopes um and and sort and timelines for maturation and for creation
00:17:25.120and I mean publishing and writing is certainly an elephant pregnancy it's certainly a like a slow
00:17:33.580thing you know what I mean um as is healing as is literally like you know flesh and tendons
00:17:41.460coming together as is um the recovery of like I'm living by land that like houses have burned down
00:17:49.360in you know what I mean like forest fires happen in California of course often and so seeing just
00:17:56.100the scale of like how the land will repair itself after immense disaster um and in trying to
00:18:05.740always uh wrestle with reckon with all of the ways to read violence um that course like birth
00:18:18.840is violent as hell you know there's birth is so violent as is so many things and so i think that
00:18:25.000um that's an important question that I'm always putting my work against and like um
00:18:33.260the distinction between violence and suffering you know of like this this like sadistic sociopathic
00:18:41.740of course violence that so many people are suffering within is also a difference than the
00:18:45.800than the violence and the growing I remember when I was a kid I was just like I could feel my bones
00:18:50.980growing like the growing pains were so terrible you know like they hurt so bad like they're like
00:18:56.860but that's good you know that's not a bad that was not bad that was not suffering um and so i think
00:19:03.260if anything i'm just trying to maintain a confident patience in the worlds that i'm envisioning and
00:19:08.680letting that vision be flexible in and shifting to be like a spinal cord that is supportive and
00:19:16.780integral and yet flexible, you know, and has a rich range of motion that can adapt to the many
00:19:25.540futures that we are generating as we all take the courage to lay hands on the future and shape it
00:19:32.240ourselves. I have to read this quote. You know this, that there's a quote from your book, Red
00:19:41.960tarot that I used as a jumping off point as a theme for a coven meeting that we had recently.0.98
00:19:49.960You must follow the fool if you want a world where dreams dance out loud. I just wanted to0.98
00:19:56.200read this, but this is what I wanted to say. Also, again, from like the same paragraph,
00:20:00.640Red Tarot. Failure and foolishness are the price of taking any meaningful step toward fulfillment.
00:20:09.620i'm gonna read it again because i feel like a lot of people are missing this messy part of birth
00:20:16.520right failure and foolishness are the price of taking any meaningful step toward fulfillment
00:20:27.660can you just talk to me about why failure and foolishness are so integral just for a minute1.00
00:20:34.460I mean failure and foolishness aka faggotry you know what I mean are the ways forward or sideways1.00
00:20:42.940or all of the ways um and I love an alliteration as you can tell by that sentence and so there's1.00
00:20:51.280something there as well I just think that failure is so much more interesting than like I always
00:20:59.600tell tell my clients and my students like if you're failing at empire that's a good thing
00:21:03.780You know, all of the reasons by which I was harassed and, like, ostracized from my social groups growing up, from my peers, were such blessings.
00:21:17.500And it was because I was just, like, this amazing, queer, you know, psychic, beautiful being that just was, like, it was just beaming.
00:21:27.360Yeah, you know, and it was like they could not handle it because all of all of these disciplinary and measures that tell you what success is that discipline your body into the being domesticated, you know, into being, as you were saying, links like in these violent, small, self-contained, isolated, like, anomic containers that lead to your own self-destruction because you're not part of a larger ecosystem where.
00:21:53.980like failure is when you go beyond the failure is a space of exploration you know it's a space
00:22:01.040of discovery it's a space of experimentation you know that also holds you accountable to not
00:22:07.560quitting like failure is an is an excuse to to stopping you know and it's like also just like
00:22:14.440get your ego out of the way and and have fun and dance and sing off key but like the music's gonna
00:22:21.040flow through you like move your hips they'll loosen up the more that you get over yourself
00:22:26.080you know um so so I think so often that is such the case and as a as a carny as I like to say as
00:22:32.920a tarot reader I think there's something so um rebellious and and insurgent that I feel in like
00:22:39.700put like push failing you know essentially like pursuing the path of failure in being a tarot
00:22:47.160reader and i love all my tarot readers of course yeah and it relates so much so much to what patty
00:22:53.220wrote about you know being bad not living up to the expectations that are violent um gdc if i had
00:23:02.580to choose one word that i think encapsulates your message um it is authenticity this is your
00:23:12.620personal way of being in the world, but also the message that you repeat over and over and over
00:23:19.180again. And I think that that's related to this too. You know, to be authentic is to know that
00:23:25.300if you, quote unquote, make a fool of yourself or you fail, that it has no bearing on your worth
00:23:31.420as a person. And it's more authentic to fail than to not try or pretend that you haven't.
00:23:37.840I also know that you are in the process of giving birth, like right now. Your new book, Hoshan, is coming out, like, I think, like, it's May 1st today. So it's coming out like three or four days from now.
00:23:59.560also um listeners when you make your reparation and join the missing witches reparations fundraiser
00:24:08.920you will receive a discount code for 20 off of granddaughter crow's new book when you order it
00:24:16.320from north atlantic books um there's also a prize pack from north atlantic shout out red tarot is
00:24:22.080also on north atlantic books and we are housemates okay that introduction was far too long tell me
00:24:28.880everything gdc uh everything would be squares to circles squares to circles guys squares to
00:24:40.180circles um so thank you so much for saying all of that and for announcing my new baby hochon
00:24:48.720it is um yeah it's uh an elephant birth like christy first said it was an elephant birth
00:24:57.820the reason why i'm saying squares to circles is because when i was listening to patty and this
00:25:04.460ushering in a new world midwifing a new world i was just like new world i i need another like new
00:25:14.220world what does that what does that mean and ultimately it means manifest here in the third
00:25:19.420dimension but it starts with consciousness right it's to me it starts with a consciousness shift
00:25:25.560It starts with a consciousness shift. And then we moved over to Lynx and Lynx is like, yes, you're conscious. This is how I understood your consciousness is displayed and or informed by the words that you were working with and using certain language and inclusivity and these types of things.
00:25:47.400And, and, and that you can imagine a new world through a conscious shift, which is an app,
00:45:45.520and we're the year of the fire horse right now right so i like to think of us as being a herd
00:45:52.080um in in our circles we've talked about this a lot that we went from the year of the snake which
00:45:57.460is like a an individual um to the wild horse which is the herd um the others are coming together
00:46:06.740to put it in gdc's uh um way of thinking but also thank you for this reminder links that like when
00:46:15.000we feel this fight or flight, this survival mode, this lack, um, that it often makes us not reach
00:46:22.920out because there's a shame under late stage capitalism that is like associated with this
00:46:28.820lack. When that is the opposite of what we should be doing. I'm putting my phone number in the chat.
00:46:34.940I hope to see you writing it down. And I promise you made me think of, you know, Risa has been
00:46:42.160going through cancer treatment for two years and we had a very you know vulnerable honest
00:46:46.080conversation where she was telling me like i just and i'm i'm paraphrasing but i just feel like i'm0.96
00:46:52.540just a fucking drag to be around and i said counterpoint what if you are so fucking amazing0.83
00:47:01.580and fantastic that even at your worst you're still valuable you're still a joy that we still0.99
00:47:10.460want to be around you even at your worst so i say unto you links even at your worst i put my phone
00:47:18.080number in the chat even at your worst please call me christopher i know you have something to say
00:47:24.040about survival mode i know you do i know you do i just text you right now also so just saying
00:47:30.580um i certainly i mean i certainly do it's like this is such a rich i like it's good this is such
00:47:36.900such a rich point i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm sorry i have to say i did just get a text from chris and
00:47:42.440i'm fucking delighted thank you i love technology me too oh my goodness um my goodness i'm loving
00:47:51.240everything that y'all are saying i mean you know me i i am um very wordy and so i like there is0.75
00:47:59.700things going and more things are coming in terms of like my response to survival mode um
00:48:05.440but I think well first was trauma in the soul you know which I think is what we're obviously
00:48:12.240naming and then I think about cockroaches I think about also predation to be in survival
00:48:21.300like and hearing this from links um the and the experience like naming the experience of shame
00:48:29.500when you when you're gripping you know when you're hanging on to the edge of the ledge
00:48:33.640is symptomatic of being assaulted you know that is a that is a mode of being victimized
00:48:44.680right of being abused is that this was like there's this sense of being made passive
00:48:50.620you know of being put into this state where it's like oh i lost my job no how can you you you didn't
00:48:58.760know where it went like you can't find it you were there yesterday what do you mean you lost it no
00:49:02.100someone fired you who fired you you know i mean like who was doing the layoffs like this sense
00:49:05.980where we the language that we're using obscures the abuse that gets perpetuated and then we
00:49:11.360internalize it as a justification for why we are struggling that we interpret our failure we
00:49:18.660interpret our struggle as um symptomatic of our inherent unworthiness by virtue of being0.94
00:49:25.260femme indigenous queer fag and on right and so i for me survival mode is also like well who is0.92
00:49:34.440who are we prey to who is like where are the predators and obviously that's0.96
00:49:39.820an ongoing and relevant conversation in this world um so that is and so then and then of course like
00:49:47.900the interruption of trauma and how is your like the way that these living and i feel i mean i will
00:49:55.600say i am the i am a bastard failure child that like my you know i grew up in survival bone my
00:50:03.240parents had me at 16 you know like i am that's just the context of my birth and i think like
00:50:09.520if anything you know there is an alchemization and there is like so much um just like I should
00:50:21.280not be where I'm at you know you know I should not have done or achieved the things that I have
00:50:25.180achieved like my family should not be in the spaces that it's at and also for the first time
00:50:30.680I don't exactly feel like I'm in survival mode um in this past couple years which has been great
00:50:36.940I think that I'm trying to thrive, but I also have people that I'm deeply in community with who are in survival mode, you know, in sitting with them.
00:50:45.140And like, of course, the larger collective world where there are certain things of just dealing with chronic fatigue and and being porous, you know, in dealing with the world that is surviving.
00:50:56.740um is a charge to truly be a spiritual warrior and to recognize that there are i'm sorry to keep
00:51:07.300just heart harping on this but like that there are predators out there that there are people
00:51:11.420actively see like it's not just like oh i made a wrong step or you know i i i made a typo or
00:51:20.480something you know what i mean or something like that it's like oh i was um tricked in and i was
00:51:26.980deceived and then i was taken advantage of i was exploited and these things were um systematically
00:51:33.500set up for me to be uh in this in this position so for me it's that's always helpful for as you
00:51:42.580were saying like gdc like also like this like x like expunging these scripts and these modes
00:51:50.000internalized you know what i mean it's to be able to kind of like name who the violators are to name
00:51:55.360where the violence the the evil like evil violence honestly is um because yeah because i'm just like
00:52:03.760uh a taurus rising who wants to moo and eat good food and like nap in the sunlight all day and like0.74
00:52:11.180listen to mariah sing you know and and like people are fucking with that and so like what0.56
00:52:17.820the hell let's call them out yeah i mean we are a group of you know sweet sensitive beautiful0.91
00:52:24.880artistic creative lovely loving people and so oftentimes it's like not surprising but shocking
00:52:34.580to me that there are people who are want me to fail that there are people in the world who are
00:52:40.780actively working against other people instead of doing their own thing they're putting their
00:52:45.360energy into tearing other people down and for us in this room and hopefully in this coven that's
00:52:51.320such a wild idea like why but it's very very very fucking real gdc how real is survival mode0.92
00:53:00.340it was too normalized when when you said i'm gonna go ahead and round rob and you get to0.73
00:53:12.240choose two words right i was totally with lakes i was like okay and i was like okay and i said
00:53:17.340too normalized no no i'm just playing with you amy you know and then my mind of course went straight
00:53:23.420to amygdala when your amygdala which is that part of your brain that is the eldest part uh and it
00:53:34.900is sense of survival it is not just fight flight or freeze there is also fawning fawning and and
00:53:43.680and to call out your predator and not excuse them so i'm like all you know activated because i'm
00:53:53.000like, you know, a lot of times, just like what you said, Amy, we are like foreign to that. There
00:54:00.040is a predator and we are like part of this whole group. That's like, oh, it must be my responsibility.
00:54:06.740Even if it's not, let me see how I can grow. Let me, we take responsibility for ourselves
00:54:11.820and they keep preying on it. And I hate to be the person. Well, I'm not the person I'm actually,
00:54:17.100you know just saying it maybe for me you know is there are literally predators out there and if we
00:54:25.620are so conditioned to take responsibility for you know maybe we need to understand and and maybe I
00:54:33.480should have while I was doing my shadow work and all of that kind of stuff if the if the sensitives
00:54:40.020if the spiritual people that have been doing that sit back and feel like oh it wasn't all in my head0.96
00:54:47.220that person actually is an asshole well there we go i don't have to fawn anymore i don't have to0.97
00:54:54.680pretend that they don't exist or that they might get better because i am horrified so you know1.00
00:55:05.340amygdala amygdala and who normalized because to the extent people that there is historical trauma
00:55:17.260there is dna trauma there's a lot more work going on in the uh psychological community to be
00:55:25.780or maybe it's always been there and i'm finally doing my my own studying about it but this word
00:55:31.120fawning that we just oh it's okay it's okay and then this other thing of DNA trauma and I really
00:55:40.820want to you know just say there is a book called My Grandmother's Hands and it's Risma
00:55:49.060I can't remember what the last name Minikin thank you spirit or whatever and that will talk to you
00:55:58.060about the survival mode that maybe you don't understand that you're in because you quantify
00:56:04.760your life and they told you what it is maybe something is going on in your body that and
00:56:10.960other people's bodies are traumatizing you and so when we if it's too normalized
00:56:15.840i have to recognize that in myself how many times i am fawning or giving excuses to well maybe i
00:56:25.440didn't explain that right maybe that person just is traumatized you know how is this my fault
00:56:31.880how is their poor treatment of me my fault yeah yes preach you know and that's the whole thing
00:56:39.880and that's why that i hate to say it that's why that dynamic works is because one person will
00:56:46.360take full responsibility and the other one will take none and so until the person was complete
00:56:52.120They kept taking responsibility, kept taking responsibility. When they start going, wait, when is it my turn? And then the other part, the taker is like, you changed, you are a bad person. And it's like, but anyway, when we are moving out of that state, which I am saying could have been through bloodline, when we are moving out of the state, for me, it's a more important question.
00:57:22.120is how do we normalize not being in survival
00:57:28.680yeah and for so many like what would that even look like
00:57:36.200what possibilities would arise from that
00:57:40.280it's a future that we can imagine together for sure um i want to go around the circle one more
00:57:48.100time firstly let me say i have my list here i know last year chris you suggested donating to
00:57:57.380the coalition to stop violence against native women is there anything you want to add um another
00:58:04.120organization that you're very into at this time that we can add to our list of suggested uh receivers
00:58:10.320i'm like all yes all of all of them um all of them that y'all find and you know but um missing
00:58:17.040and murdered indigenous um people in san diego is like a local one so um that is just always one
00:58:25.540near and dear um to to my to my heart any any sort of branch locally wherever you may find yourself
00:58:33.460that is focused on like it was previously mmiw right for like the center on women but it has
00:58:39.440shifted to to people um and so so yeah that's what i would say i mean i think it obviously builds on
00:58:45.960this as well like how are you surviving when people are being disappeared right again being
00:58:50.680preyed upon and just like disappeared um and so one of the indicators is like the red hand
00:58:57.380print over the mouth over the face right and so for the listeners um that like if you see that
00:59:02.520image that's a good like sign to go and support that work and how can our listeners support you
00:59:37.800like you'll learn tarot um but i also gear that course to having a client practice and like
00:59:44.100trying to read for others and that's what i think the cards want to be between people you know and
00:59:50.620even if you're not like a professional but reading for your friends reading for your family they they
00:59:55.460are your clients reading for whomst ever um and of course just the newsletter just join me on the
01:00:01.580newsletter and you'll hear about all my offerings which is the red reed dot beehive uh dot com
01:00:05.840dot beehive dot com and of course everybody all these links as always in the show notes
01:00:11.280links l-i-n-k-s now links l-y-n-x last year you hyped the sierra club protecting lakes from a
01:00:22.960devastating oil spill and support Anishinaabe nations um I imagine that that still works but
01:00:32.580is there anything new anybody else you want to spotlight there's really so many I think1.00
01:00:39.840redistributing should just continue and continue but what comes to mind is we matter campaign
01:00:48.960They're an Indigenous-led organization in Turtle Island that focuses on youth mental wellness through role model ambassadors.
01:01:03.320So having people below the age of 30 representing resilience through just existing, not really needing to, you know, be more than just deserving,
01:01:19.660but um actually seeing yourself represented in media around you see yourself um reflected
01:01:28.680in others instead of isolated is one of those key ways to uh challenge feelings of mental illness
01:01:39.700suicide um and that's the reality of what the world is trying to do to us it's trying to
01:01:49.960you know make us not hear there are predators as has been mentioned so that's what was on my mind
01:01:58.440yeah and is there any way i feel like you're not selling anything right now which is fine and great
01:02:03.860but is is there any way that our listeners can support you personally i know you just made a
01:02:08.820big move so maybe you need some uh some support for that yeah I keep uh I keep doing
01:02:17.760I keep giving my energy um but I'm thinking of doing prints I've been making and making and
01:02:28.660making but not um creating products because sometimes those stories feel so sacred but
01:02:34.960i have um i have some prints i'm gonna make so i feel really hopeful that they'll look
01:02:43.620they'll look nice when they exist in the physical instead of the digital yes i i have an empty spot
01:02:51.140on my witch art wall that i was like i'm not gonna fill this spot because soon something will
01:02:57.160come and then and now i know i can't wait to buy buy a print of your work links patty
01:03:03.720so of course payyourrent.ca do you want to talk to us a little bit about payyourrent.ca
01:03:10.000yeah so that's a foundation that i started a few years ago with a couple of friends and we
01:03:16.620basically encourage settlers to pay their rent and they donate money to us and then we donate it to
01:03:24.460indigenous people we support we support people's material needs like literally paying their rent
01:03:30.840um helping them get housed stay housed cell phone bills get stuff out of storage like a lot of the
01:03:37.380falling through the cracks kind of stuff that other organizations don't have the mandate for
01:03:42.540we'll say sure we'll pay for that we'll help that if we if we have the money we'll give it we'll
01:03:46.760give it away um but we also support organizers who are building communities because if you you
01:03:54.840also have to work against the reasons for why people need that money right so we support
01:03:59.840organizers as well as meeting people's material needs um yeah so that's uh payyourrent.ca um
01:04:07.340and then if people want to support me they can subscribe to my blog uh thousandworlds.ca
01:04:13.660um which is part of that midwifing new worlds and and right now i'm working and the reason
01:04:19.660uh christopher that i um immediately glommed onto your book and ordered that is i i try to create
01:04:26.880i'm really not very good at creating content specific for paid subscribers i'm working
01:04:32.020through anishinaabe stories right now that's kind of what i'm putting out uh every you know every
01:04:36.420i try every week or so um working through these stories that were actually documented in 1912
01:04:42.400which is really cool um because they haven't evolved they've been like trapped in amber
01:04:47.080um so they're really kind of cool um but for paid subscribers we're now doing tarot time
01:04:55.160where I just let's just pull some cards let's see what and I'm almost more like I guess a writing
01:05:02.120prompt with some influence from spirit you know so yeah so people could also ask me questions
01:05:08.480um and then like pick the deck that I'm using that they want me to use and then it would be
01:05:14.520like I said a writing prompt it's not a it's not a reading um because a reading is a conversation
01:05:19.620between me and that person what they see in the cards what I see you know it's it's and
01:05:24.840that's not what would be happening um in the paid content so it's more of a writing prompt you ask
01:05:30.460a question let's see what story the cards tell and then take what you need from that um so yeah
01:05:36.340so that was why you know yay more tarot resources you are going to love red tarot it's exactly that
01:05:46.540before we officially started rolling this tape listeners we were talking about encountering very
01:05:52.140dense material and academic material that's like wonderful and you're amazed but you're kind of
01:05:58.260like oh this is a slog Christopher somehow has taken everything that you need to know from the
01:06:05.620academy and put it through this like beautiful kaleidoscopic prismatic lens that makes it so
01:06:12.380legible and so um what's the word that I'm looking for like I can eat it I can eat it
01:06:21.260you know and i don't have to chew it and chew it and chew it i can just eat it and enjoy it and i
01:06:26.780feel full and like i love you so much thank you i actually also i i know lane smith i think has
01:06:36.200talked with you before right yeah i have their book uh 78 acts of liberation which which is
01:06:42.500another tarot book that i really enjoy their take on it yes and of course i'm holding in my hand
01:06:48.940bad indians book club and becoming kin so that's another way that listeners you can support patty
01:06:55.320and patty's work fantastic favorite independent bookstore yes get them from your favorite
01:07:02.120independent bookstore jeff bezos doesn't need to go to the moon and back no or go to the moon and
01:07:08.320don't come back yeah don't come back just go to mars go to mars yeah go to mars you know judy
01:07:14.920judy gray and um judy grawn judy grawn told me when we spoke she was like this is an earth0.99
01:07:20.480centered movement go to mars fuck off to mars we don't need you we don't want you go0.99
01:07:25.000gdc i know every year when i ask you this question you give me the answer that i love1.00
01:07:32.720which is you tell people go into your local community don't listen to what gdc says go
01:07:41.640and find it for yourself go and see for yourself and that's so much a part of what the missing
01:07:49.060witches reparations fundraiser is about of course we talk a lot about the native women's shelter of
01:07:55.160montreal and that that's where our resources go but we want you to look at the map nativelands.ca
01:08:03.920and you can find out what First Nations were on the land that you're standing on before you stood
01:08:12.260here. Reach out to your community. Find out the amazing work. We've heard so many great stories
01:08:19.000about people reaching out to their local community and finding something that they didn't know
01:08:24.460existed, that was super resonant with what they were doing in their own lives, and then just this
01:08:30.820like expansion that's what we're looking for so we know gdc says go out into your community use
01:08:40.100your senses taste the air and touch and see what is going on so i'm gonna give you this moment
01:08:48.460to plug the newest book please plug plug plug plug plug plug it's wonderful thank you oh my
01:08:58.740goodness yes i my future my current self stands in solidarity with my past self that said that
01:09:06.380absolutely um hey guys i got a new book coming out it's called hochon right it's called hochon
01:09:14.880and if you are like wait what's she saying this is going to be difficult yeah it is a navajo word
01:09:20.580and it is encouraging you to like go hochon and reach out there it's a little scary but it
01:09:28.540is a Navajo Nation medicine woman's exploration of the four bodies of existence for balance
01:09:34.960and self-reclamation. It is North Atlantic Books, is the my publishing house. The beauty of this
01:09:47.160is that we often look outside of ourselves for counsel, which I think is extremely healthy.
01:09:55.640but we also need to look inside of ourself to our birthright of the council that was given to us
01:10:04.520and that is the four bodies of existence your physical body your emotional body your mental
01:10:11.480body your spiritual body calling them bodies helps us to understand articulate wrap some
01:10:18.960feelings around a little more texture around it's not something that i own it is something that i
01:10:24.520need to feed that I need to take care of and exercise and then it also once you are able to
01:10:32.600listen to all of those four bodies as your internal counsel the book helps to walk through
01:10:39.420what is that internal narrative that's been playing can you identify it and I help people
01:10:45.680to do that and then all of a sudden now do you still like that narrative that you are living
01:10:52.560or do you want to adjust it to live a more powerful life on purpose um this book has a life
01:11:01.280of its own and man i'm i'm beside myself with it it's it's it's absolutely uh self-reclamation
01:11:13.160i tell a lot of stories so basically the setup is you do hear about the philosophical
01:11:19.420way that I'm expressing the four bodies of existence. And I explain that explaining the
01:11:25.580sympathetic parasympathetic nervous system and going into the gut system and going into your
01:11:30.860emotional intelligence and all of that. And then we go into, you know, a little bit more of, you
01:11:37.680know, okay, what is granddaughter Crow's story here? Can she show us an example of how she moved
01:11:43.320through not just the philosophy not just the grounded scientific uh analysis of it but the
01:11:52.260embodied lived experience and so i walk with you through the book and i absolutely love it
01:12:01.220love it love it and i appreciate you letting me share it because yeah hoshone in the navajo
01:12:08.680is a word that i think it's most aptly translated into english language meaning harmony
01:12:17.920and so when people start going oh well hochon means harmony so i'm just going to
01:12:24.140no you can't those are those are not interchangeably they are like if you were to say
01:12:31.320zen means peace hochon means harmony it's something that is embodied shout out to
01:12:40.120uh my dad reverend jackson yazzi born 1932 passed the physical body in 2023 dedicated this book to
01:12:52.280you dad and decided to publish it after you passed so you wouldn't have to defend what your little
01:12:57.540girl is saying okay so because i got a little bit i mean he agreed he went into the not he was taken
01:13:08.000out of the hogan and put into boarding schools and he has had to come to terms with that in his
01:13:14.660own lifetime his little girl joy joy me is a little bit more feisty about that i do not feel
01:13:21.500like being adaptable i do not feel like that that program is good and so i'm i'm kind of
01:13:27.800making a stance so yeah yeah oh sean definitely can go into the bad indians book club
01:13:34.960it's definitely a bad indians book so let me say one more time and y'all get ready because this may
01:13:45.340and hopefully many mays in the future and five mays in the past you are going to hear this again
