00:00:00.000 It feels like every controversy now is so like weird and it has this like sheen of like apocalypse and it's so like end timesy like I don't know Kat and I were just talking about Britney Spears the other day as as usual and it's like when you think back to the controversies of the Britney Spears aughts and it's like did you see how Britney Spears installed her car seat like she's an unfit mother and now it's like your favorite British pop star from the 80s.
00:00:30.000 is making a robot Zionist fight song that's being upheld by officials within Netanyahu's
00:00:37.720 government. It's just like everything feels so end times. Oh, yeah. Fully in hell. There's like
00:00:42.700 a sheen of AI psychosis to everything. Feels bad. There's only up from here, though, right?
00:00:48.360 hello hello and welcome back to a bit fruity i'm matt bernstein thank you so much for being here
00:01:03.720 so this all started for me a couple months ago in a little podunk corner of the internet called
00:01:10.960 my own Instagram. Let me tell you a story, my dear listener. On May 5th, 2026, a synagogue on
00:01:20.080 the Upper East Side of Manhattan held something called the Great Israeli Real Estate Event,
00:01:26.260 wherein Jewish New Yorkers, and only Jewish New Yorkers, can come, check out, and plan to purchase
00:01:34.580 property not only in Israel, but also in the illegally occupied West Bank. It is a land expo 0.80
00:01:43.200 for New Yorkers to move onto stolen Palestinian land. And yes, this is an episode about the British 0.92
00:01:50.800 pop musician Boy George. Just hang on. I went to a protest of this real estate expo where outside
00:01:59.020 protesters, many of whom were anti-Zionist Jews like myself, by the way, clashed with Zionist
00:02:06.240 counter-protesters who were supporting the expo. It was a dizzying scene, to be honest, and somewhere
00:02:12.960 I perhaps naively did not expect to get recognized, but I was. One of the counter-protesters noticed
00:02:20.300 and began berating me, saying things like, 0.99
00:02:23.520 what's up man how are you i said do you want to suck mandani's and here i was thinking that i had 0.99
00:02:29.620 to go to gaza to experience homophobia fascinating anyway i made a short instagram video about this 0.98
00:02:36.940 whole ordeal on which rosie o'donnell god bless her left a comment of support i've never spoken
00:02:44.320 to rosie o'donnell but i think she's really cool if she happens to be listening to this rosie hit
00:02:50.940 me up. So you can only imagine my double shock when in response to Rosie O'Donnell's comment on
00:02:57.900 my Instagram post, British pop singer and longtime queer icon Boy George commented at Rosie. What are
00:03:05.740 you cheering here? He continued in a second comment. They are not right speaking to you like
00:03:11.800 that. But there is a serious lack of nuance in your own point of view. I don't see you protesting
00:03:17.380 Putin over Ukraine are standing up for LGBTQI people in Africa. I mean, the list is endless,
00:03:25.320 but you chose a country that would absolutely not accept you and likely kill you. Also, 0.98
00:03:32.420 ignoring October 7th, young people like you, peaceful people dancing who were raped and
00:03:38.000 murdered. I don't get why anyone thinks you are brave, especially Rosie. He got you.
00:03:46.440 why was he was like he got me but he was really pissed that like rosie o'donnell had something
00:03:52.100 nice to say about this something about rosie o'donnell makes all these men go crazy we're
00:03:58.280 missing some important context here like i feel like these two had some interaction and like in
00:04:04.020 line for the bathroom like 20 years ago i i really appreciate rosie o'donnell because she seems to
00:04:10.280 have a singular ability to make donald trump go completely insane like something about rosie like
00:04:17.940 he's just never been able to get over the fact that rosie o'donnell doesn't like him it's funnily
00:04:21.680 enough it's it's sort of a similar thing to what deborah massing had over donald trump for a very
00:04:25.900 long time because the apprentice and oh god two minutes in and i'm talking about deborah messing
00:04:33.260 oh here we go but okay so similarly kathy griffin yes hates kathy griffin but funny lore with deborah
00:04:41.620 messing and donald trump is that the apprentice and will and grace aired on the same channel
00:04:47.660 during the same time period and so donald trump and deborah messing kind of knew each other from
00:04:53.260 behind the scenes donald trump according to one book i'm gonna throw it up on the screen because
00:04:58.180 I forget the title, had a crush on Debra Messing, which was not reciprocated by her.
00:05:04.380 And then for a while during the 2010s, when Debra Messing would criticize Donald Trump
00:05:08.600 a lot, of course, she doesn't anymore, he would get really upset because he still had
00:05:13.320 this lingering crush on her.
00:05:15.220 Now, of course, you know, she's posting videos of Donald Trump and Netanyahu positively to
00:05:20.340 her Instagram.
00:05:21.080 So I don't know, maybe maybe he's feel like he's he's gained some ground.
00:05:24.020 But anyway, Boy George, very pissed at Rosie O'Donnell on Matt Bernstein's Instagram.
00:05:29.940 It all goes down on your in your Instagram comments. 0.96
00:05:32.580 I never understand this line of attack from Zionists when they're like, I don't see you getting mad over. 0.93
00:05:39.100 What did he say? I don't see you protesting Putin over Ukraine.
00:05:43.520 We are the entire Israeli military is upheld by our tax dollars.
00:05:49.840 That's why we're talking about this.
00:05:51.460 He can't even come up with a country in Africa that he thinks you should be protesting over.
00:05:56.520 He's just like, why aren't you talking about the entire continent of Africa?
00:06:01.160 Yeah, what does that even mean?
00:06:03.180 It's so like there are hungry people in Africa. 0.54
00:06:06.560 But anyway, it's weird for someone like Boy George, who does feel so intimately part of my own personal history as a makeup wearing femme boy adjacent queer person, 0.54
00:06:20.060 to be, as they say, coming for me. But, you know, here we are. Boy George has, in the months since 0.67
00:06:28.000 this ordeal, which of course only I noticed, made a lot of headlines globally, chief among them for
00:06:33.640 his release of an AI-generated reggae pro-Israel fight song. None of those words are in the Bible.
00:06:42.280 today i want to talk about what i perceive to be boy george's very strange spiral one that deals
00:06:50.620 in geopolitics yes but perhaps even more so in artificial intelligence insecurity about relevance
00:06:58.580 anything else that rhymes there and i'm so excited to be doing that with two of my great friends
00:07:04.180 pop culture and political twitch streamer caroline kwan and journalist writer of the
00:07:10.800 excellent newsletter spitfire news cat ten barge welcome back to the show my leading ladies
00:07:17.220 i am excited once again to dive deep here with you both and i already said this before the
00:07:24.660 episode started but i have never been so deep in real housewives tea and lore as i have in
00:07:30.160 preparation for this episode because it's all connected the web is huge i feel like there was
00:07:35.960 a part of me that knew this was this was always coming really i couldn't have put words to it but
00:07:40.620 it just makes a lot of sense to me that like after i saw boy george attack you all of those
00:07:45.900 months ago i was like this story can only get weirder and worse from here that's a very nice 0.83
00:07:53.960 way of calling me like a very vindictive gay man who's who's only sword is to wield as a podcast 0.64
00:08:00.920 a three hour deep dive into the mess i honestly i wasn't gonna do it though i wasn't gonna do it 0.80
00:08:09.180 I was like you know what let's just like just let this one go like it's fine but things have
00:08:14.060 just gotten so weird what was the thing that made you think maybe this is not worthy of a deep dive
00:08:33.680 and then what changed your mind well to be honest i get a lot of weird instagram comments
00:08:40.100 and you know sometimes from like strange corners of celebrity universe like this isn't the first
00:08:46.480 time this has happened like i remember getting a comment from what's the tiger king guy's name
00:08:53.380 joe exotic joe exotic who did give us the line it's all corrupt girl and i was like i thought
00:09:00.480 you're in prison he is that's literally where it's all corrupt girl came from was like how are
00:09:06.680 you tweeting from prison it's all corrupt girl but but i'm like i can't you know i can't nor do
00:09:12.700 i want to like sit down and make an episode about my own beefs every time someone leaves a mean
00:09:18.220 comment like it's just who cares like this isn't that interesting to people however the more that
00:09:24.080 i learned about boy george's past and also the more that he continued to do in the months since
00:09:29.920 this little skirmish with rosie o'donnell my instagram comment section the more i was like
00:09:35.400 no maybe actually there is meat on the bone that is interesting to people this isn't an episode
00:09:40.880 about me and my beef like i don't think anyone cares about that and and for the record i don't
00:09:44.760 have beef with boy george what am i saying oh my god let's start let's just start the episode
00:09:54.840 I think, too, if you have been kind of peripherally paying attention to Boy George in the corner of the Internet he's on prior to this song release, there have been a couple of things he did that were so bizarre, but also very reminiscent of this growing boomer conservative, like people feeling much more comfortable in the second Donald Trump era to be very openly conservative.
00:10:22.660 he wrote a post that was crying over charlie kirk oh yeah that boy george did that and then
00:10:29.840 also on like the when the chapel roan oh the latest global hate campaign happened he of course
00:10:35.880 was piping up there so he has definitely been chiming in on the hot tops we have a lot to talk
00:10:42.120 about and not to spoil my own thesis but i do think that sort of like disgruntlement with the
00:10:48.280 changing world around him, combined with an excessive use of AI, just is not a breeding
00:10:56.220 ground for a healthy state of mind. But we'll get into all of that. Now, what do we all know
00:11:02.600 about Boy George, barring all of the stuff we're going to talk about today? Because I feel like
00:11:06.760 he's extremely famous, but also more famous for people who are maybe our parents' age. I feel
00:11:13.340 Like if my dear listener does not know who he is, their parents definitely do.
00:11:18.320 Before all of this started happening, I literally only knew him for the song Karma Chameleon.
00:11:23.940 And now it's been stuck in my head for like the past three days.
00:11:28.020 It's a perfect song.
00:11:28.840 It's an earworm.
00:11:29.880 My experience is a little bit deeper, I would say.
00:11:33.160 Can I just say, sorry.
00:11:35.420 Yeah, go ahead.
00:11:36.300 I texted Caroline and Kat and I was like, have you guys seen this boy George stuff?
00:11:40.540 And Caroline was like.
00:11:43.340 so I do believe that your experience has been deeper
00:11:49.020 there was a moment where I went this is too much Carol you're you have sent approximately
00:11:55.780 20 messages in a row this is too much and that was only the tip of the ice I responded in the
00:12:03.100 morning my understanding experience with boy George so when I started to get into David Bowie
00:12:10.140 I became very interested in that entire scene in the 70s and the 80s in the UK.
00:12:16.620 And that was how I started to discover artists like Boyd George.
00:12:20.640 And I was very fascinated with like the political and social time period and the new romantic era, which is what Boyd George came up in.
00:12:28.900 And this real emergence of queer culture in the 80s, which was in contrast, of course, to the Margaret Thatcher conservatism in the UK.
00:12:37.300 So a lot of like a lot of pop culture and political history that I was very interested in, but also because my family listened to George Michael.
00:12:48.040 So I remember being confused when I first realized that there were two gay icons in the 80s in the UK, both like soul pop singers.
00:13:00.540 and it was this strange thing
00:13:05.340 where you realize these are two different people,
00:13:09.000 like very different music,
00:13:10.480 but going, oh my God.
00:13:11.680 Okay, so there's George Michael and then Boy George.
00:13:14.360 And my family listened to a lot of George Michael.
00:13:17.120 George Michael over Boy George
00:13:18.920 because George Michael was more mainstream.
00:13:20.980 He was over the couple of hits
00:13:24.040 that came from Culture Club and Boy George.
00:13:26.960 I'm sure that there are LGBTQ individuals
00:13:28.980 who Boy George was so
00:13:30.900 formative. Maybe they
00:13:33.020 tend to be of an older
00:13:35.040 generation, but I'm sure that
00:13:37.080 they were greatly influenced
00:13:38.760 and inspired by him.
00:13:40.620 Nothing but love for George Michael, our
00:13:42.980 cruising king.
00:13:44.920 Boy George, or 0.96
00:13:46.520 George O'Dowd, very British
00:13:48.880 name, is a 65-year-old
00:13:51.100 British pop star. He came up
00:13:53.000 in the late 70s, early
00:13:55.100 80s with a sort of
00:13:57.020 androgynous glam rock style a la David Bowie. In 1981, at the tender age of 20, he and three
00:14:07.120 other musicians formed the group Culture Club, which found pretty much immediate success in the
00:14:13.440 British glam rock scene. And after two years, Boy George became a global sensation with Culture
00:14:20.680 Club's number one hit, Karma Chameleon. The new romantic era was really a fashion movement. But
00:14:28.320 then a lot of the artists who emerged like Boy George, they mixed a variety of musical sounds,
00:14:34.500 but a prominent feature was the fashion. So for Boy George, it was very androgynous. It was very
00:14:42.440 eccentric. He had his signature braids and his bowler hat. His philosophy as a musical artist
00:14:49.000 was that it wasn't just about your sound.
00:14:50.880 It was about your look.
00:14:51.880 It was about all of it to create your identity.
00:14:55.200 So the NRE was this underground subculture movement
00:15:00.340 that came about as really kind of a,
00:15:04.960 not necessarily protest, a contrast to punk,
00:15:08.520 which was huge in the 70s in the UK.
00:15:11.000 And there were a lot of young people,
00:15:14.340 kind of art student types who felt
00:15:17.080 either left behind with the punk movement or were just tired of the nihilistic punk
00:15:23.100 sound. And so they were really looking for something romantic and theatrical.
00:15:29.860 Just to kind of give a little timeline here, before you had the New Romantic Kids,
00:15:34.880 you had the Blitz Kids. And this was the London underground club scene that Boy George,
00:15:41.220 as a teenager, and then as he started to form Culture Club and came up in the music scene,
00:15:47.080 he lived in this underground club movement. And prior to that, that came from the kind of Bowie,
00:15:54.600 what they called Bowie Knights, David Bowie and other artists like Mark Bolan and Roxy Music,
00:16:00.280 who were very, very influential in the 70s. So this was the environment that boy George
00:16:07.280 literally grew up in. There were no rules when it came to dressing, but the only rule was that
00:16:13.580 you had to be saying something with your look. You had to have an identity with the way that
00:16:20.700 you presented yourself. It was all about inventing and reinventing. It was all about
00:16:25.360 there were no rules. Steve Strange, who was another artist of this era, and he was also huge
00:16:31.840 in the underground nightclub scene. He would be a bouncer at these clubs and would turn people away
00:16:38.080 if they did not show up in a fit with a look.
00:16:41.680 That was the scene.
00:16:42.760 And there are like really amazing photos
00:16:45.520 and stories from that time period.
00:16:47.760 The environment you can imagine was so fun and exciting.
00:16:52.840 And then a lot of great artists emerged from this time period.
00:16:58.560 You had all of that just like top of the dome, ready to go?
00:17:01.840 Well, you know, I brushed it up a little bit,
00:17:03.480 but I love this stuff.
00:17:06.200 I love to study like these different eras in pop culture and also then what the political
00:17:12.440 context was at the time. And so, like I said, in the 80s, like in the US, there was this real
00:17:19.620 pushback against emerging queer culture because of conservatism. So in the UK, you had Margaret
00:17:26.440 Thatcher, that bitch. She literally said children are growing up thinking they have an inalienable 1.00
00:17:33.960 right to be gay. That was the political environment of Margaret Thatcher's conservative party.
00:17:40.780 And so that then, of course, clashed with the new romantic artists and this movement
00:17:47.480 with artists like Boy George, who he was very involved and he was very adamant in using his
00:17:54.960 music and his artistry to fight back against that conservatism. And of course, then you also had
00:18:02.680 the AIDS crisis. Both George Michael and Boy George lost a lot of friends. It was such a
00:18:08.700 devastating time period. And Boy George went even harder in his identity as a queer artist.
00:18:17.080 A lot of his music, if you listen to the lyrics, one, it's about his secret gay affairs. But two, 0.69
00:18:24.460 it's all about expressing your true identity. In Karma Chameleon, there's the line,
00:18:31.020 a man with no convictions a man with no conviction exactly i'm not even worried 0.93
00:18:37.120 about getting copywriter because i'm so fucking bad at singing 0.84
00:18:39.520 and it's all about what happens when you are when you are kept in the closet when you are unable to 0.82
00:18:49.220 express yourself fully and freely anyway it was a very exciting time which makes the state of
00:18:56.300 things now feel I don't know somehow more dismal because he because he was a great artist he was a 0.91
00:19:01.320 great artist yes and he did come out as bisexual initially I think in 1985 obviously super super
00:19:10.100 radical for the time he did later on in a book he wrote in the 90s come out as gay I'm trying to
00:19:16.740 say if I should bring up this point now or when we start talking about the the AI reggae because 0.68
00:19:22.740 in talking about Boy George's sound and his influences, it is so devastating to see someone
00:19:30.760 like that involved with AI. And we'll get to that part when we get to that part. But basically,
00:19:36.620 he was heavily influenced by Black pop music, by reggae. He, in early interviews, first of all,
00:19:45.980 he's pretty lovely like he's funny soft-spoken but sharp always a popular guest in media
00:19:55.600 appearances because they would always get like some iconic line out of him but anyway so so his
00:20:01.140 influences were pretty widespread he was of course influenced by David Bowie but also artists like
00:20:08.020 Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye and so he had this very soul pop glam rock art pop mixture
00:20:15.960 of a sound. And he talked about Culture Club as a culmination of cultures and Culture Club was
00:20:25.160 diverse. So the members were very diverse. A big part of it was Boy George's belief that and he
00:20:31.620 would always credit especially Black artists for, say, rock as a genre, acknowledging that rock
00:20:38.640 comes from Black music as pretty much every genre of music has its origins in Black artists and
00:20:45.900 black music. So he talked about how Culture Club was to take all of these cultures and all of
00:20:51.940 these inspirations and these influences and have it in one place. And so that's what and who they
00:20:58.900 were. He was also, I'm sure, subjected to a level of like constant homophobia. Yes. That makes him
00:21:08.040 like, again, just kind of like one of the icons who is in the tapestry of people who makes it so
00:21:15.160 someone like me can express themselves you know more readily and with less fear which is again
00:21:22.400 why you know some of what we're going to get into is is so heartbreaking i think it is there's an
00:21:27.400 interview with uh i think it was david letterman and boy george is 21 22 and he's got this he's
00:21:34.980 he's got this really eccentric fit on per huge this big yellow coat and his hat and his braids
00:21:39.820 And Letterman goes, so how long have you been like this?
00:21:45.020 Which he's obviously, he's referencing the boy George aesthetic.
00:21:50.500 And he goes, my whole life.
00:21:53.520 You know, of course he's saying to Letterman, I've been queer my entire life.
00:21:58.740 This is who I've always been.
00:21:59.900 But now this is how I'm expressing myself.
00:22:01.480 But yeah, he was so celebratory of eccentricity and queerness and otherness
00:22:08.080 and was really a powerful force in the 80s.
00:22:12.800 And now look where we are with boy George.
00:22:15.660 But also he's far from the only, like, icon from this time period
00:22:22.080 who has now ended up as like some Facebook boomer conservative posting AI slop.
00:22:28.320 Yeah, and we will get to that.
00:22:32.120 Plastics don't just disappear.
00:22:34.040 They break up into smaller and smaller pieces that embed themselves within our environments,
00:22:39.740 within our water, within our food.

00:25:13.540 slash fruity50off. And now let's get back to the show. Culture Club ultimately dissolved
00:25:22.600 in 1986 after just six years, though, when Boy George entered treatment for heroin addiction.
00:25:30.720 You know, I think drugs, I would imagine I'm more familiar with these scenes in the U.S.,
00:25:35.900 but if it was anything like that over in the U.K., I would imagine drugs were a huge part
00:25:40.300 of the scene. Oh, yeah. And it was also tied to what was happening with the AIDS crisis and what
00:25:46.540 was happening with conservatism in the UK where they were really pushing back against queer rights
00:25:53.040 and so I'm I'm not saying like directly boy George developed a drug addiction from that there were
00:25:59.460 other factors as well but it was a very tumultuous period yeah I mean he was also like after a few
00:26:06.340 years he was rich and famous like you know the rich and famous rock star struggling with drug
00:26:11.080 addiction is not new nor relegated to gay people obviously he gets out and in the late 80s boy
00:26:19.380 george achieves modest success as a solo act and then through the 90s obviously glossing over a
00:26:25.680 long time here but i know you guys like three hour long episodes but i i can't edit them it's
00:26:31.720 too much through the 90s he he expanded his work with a successful foray into djing playing at
00:26:39.160 nightclubs and parties around the world. He struggled to kick the drug habit though. And
00:26:46.400 fast forward again, in 2005, Boy George was arrested in New York on charges of suspicion
00:26:53.500 of cocaine possession and falsely reporting a burglary, for which he was sentenced to five
00:27:00.220 days of community service, during which photographers were staked out wherever Boy
00:27:07.160 George was instructed to like clean up trash on the street in his orange vest there's a million
00:27:12.740 photos of boy George doing community service online and they're pretty incredible very Paris
00:27:18.820 Hilton the simple life I'm looking at them now I put a few in the outline he's like wearing his
00:27:25.680 mask on the top of his head it's like he doesn't he's never seen like a a trash can and a broom in
00:27:31.840 his life he's got to have that hat on still the mask serves as his former bowler hat oh see like
00:27:39.480 he's so he's funny no if i just knew him by these photos like they're kind of iconic like the facial
00:27:45.900 expressions he's making the sunglasses that he's wearing the attitude on display in 2007 however
00:27:53.640 things take a turn and we are going to be talking about this is going to be like a little bit of a
00:28:01.640 true crime chapter which I don't love to do but there is a reason that we will be talking about
00:28:08.500 this because I think that we should and I think that we have to and I think that it's actually
00:28:12.080 morally correct to talk about this content warning we're going to be talking about some
00:28:17.860 physical abuse here in January 2007 boy George then 45 years old met Auden Carlson a 27 year
00:28:27.480 old male escort who he'd met on the website Gaydar, very early aughts. George hired Auden to do a nude
00:28:35.600 photo shoot at his apartment for which he paid Auden a few hundred pounds. During that initial
00:28:42.080 meeting, Auden says George tried to initiate sex with him, which he rejected. From Auden, quote,
00:28:48.960 he wanted to do things to me. He tried to perform oral sex on me, but I wasn't up for it at all, 0.99
00:28:54.940 and I told him that politely. Then he wanted me to lie over his knees and to spank me. He wasn't 1.00
00:29:01.140 my type at all. I was up for a good time, but that was not part of the plan. I made that clear
00:29:06.500 to him. It made me uncomfortable, and at 4 or 5 a.m., I told him I was going to leave. He started
00:29:12.700 to be rude. I left and went home. George apologized that April a few months later and scheduled a
00:29:20.280 second photo shoot with Auden. Auden arrived at George's house, and the two drank wine and did
00:29:26.420 cocaine and had a photo shoot. After a few hours, George called Auden into his bedroom, where
00:29:33.260 another man was waiting. Together, this man and George wrestled Auden to the ground. They handcuffed
00:29:41.040 him and attached him to the wall. Some accounts say that he was chained to a radiator, others to
00:29:47.700 a wall hook, and they beat him. While chained, Auden says George taunted him with sex toys and
00:29:55.980 said, quote, now you're going to get it. And according to Auden, George, quote, punched him 0.85
00:30:01.720 repeatedly and then beat him with a metal chain, like a dog chain, for half an hour before Auden
00:30:08.260 was able to detach himself from the wall, at which point he ran into the streets of London
00:30:13.880 naked and bleeding. He said to the first person he saw, a shopkeeper named Diptesh Patel,
00:30:20.840 quote, help me, help me. Two guys have hurt me. George would later attribute this behavior to
00:30:28.020 the extent that he admits to doing it at all to a drug-fueled psychotic episode and paranoia that
00:30:34.720 Auden had hacked into his computer. Auden says that George was simply punishing him for not
00:30:40.760 having sex the first time they'd met up george also like he continues to like defend himself
00:30:46.900 online and like really deny this but he'll like he'll he'll stick to like really specific points
00:30:53.280 and be like i never chained him to a radiator my apartment didn't even have a radiator and it's
00:30:59.600 like i don't know i don't think the the story is hinging on whether it was a radiator or something
00:31:05.320 else. But anyway, in court, Boy George admitted to chaining Auden to his wall, but denied beating
00:31:12.600 him, suggesting that the red welts that were seen on Auden's body after the attack were actually
00:31:20.280 there because Auden was HIV positive. That detail disturbs me a lot, because thinking back to Boy
00:31:30.160 George's rise to prominence during the 80s as a prominent queer celebrity during a time 0.53
00:31:36.880 when AIDS ravaged the gay community to then excuse himself from this abuse of a sex worker 0.85
00:31:45.800 that he hired and his excuse being, well, that guy has HIV. So I guess that's how it 0.88
00:31:51.460 happened. It's just, you know, I don't I don't really mean to like relitigate a crime from
00:31:58.120 20 years ago but man well boy george does because he's still in the comments that's true on twitter
00:32:03.960 saying completely untrue false and that's true yeah yeah it's a really stunning horrifying part
00:32:10.900 of the entire boy george story here and his star had been on the decline he had done like television
00:32:19.140 appearances here and there i think maybe he was still working as a dj but he was what i would say
00:32:24.020 in this period of time that extends up till today,
00:32:28.880 which I think has been like this one long chapter of Boy George
00:32:33.620 that has been very terrible and abusive
00:32:38.100 and really just frightening.
00:32:41.620 Yeah.
00:32:42.160 There's like a couple different like biases that come to mind
00:32:45.700 that were like at play throughout this
00:32:47.800 because on one hand you have the like nature of sexual violence
00:32:52.660 against sex workers, which is common and leads to, I think, a lot of sort of attitudes that like,
00:33:00.820 well, if that person showed up and they were being paid as a sex worker, then the person who paid
00:33:07.280 them like has a right to like do what they want. And obviously that's not the case. Like consent
00:33:13.060 still applies in these situations. But you can imagine that not just that bias coming into play
00:33:20.140 as you know this person tries to get justice also the bias against like being a queer person
00:33:25.700 in general and unfortunately you see this fairly frequently in the lgbtq community where it's like
00:33:31.480 these forms of sexual violence are no less severe really no different and a lot of the language of
00:33:38.480 trying to excuse and deny that the abuse happened is eerily similar um to like what happens when men
00:33:45.640 abuse women but in this case like you have so many different stigmas to go up against and one of them
00:33:52.340 is like people struggle to hold two things in their mind that someone could be a queer icon and
00:33:57.620 could also abuse another queer person and so it can lead to this desire to like oh we don't want
00:34:02.900 to talk about that because we don't want to tarnish this person's legacy or feed into a stigma that's
00:34:07.760 harmful to the entire community but in the process what happens is that this poor person gets
00:34:14.140 re-traumatized over and over and over again and of course like there's the classic you know boy
00:34:20.620 george is acknowledging that something happened he's attributing it to you know substance use
00:34:25.920 and he's denying certain elements of this to try to like lessen the severity but he's not denying
00:34:32.680 that this happened we know that something happened that night so it's just like a lot of really tired
00:34:37.820 victim blaming tropes coming into play and the thing about addiction too which is an illness in
00:34:43.740 its own right and you know one that i'm extremely like sensitive to but you also i mean one of the
00:34:50.000 things about addiction recovery which boy george has been sober since 2008 is that you have to
00:34:54.880 take accountability which is something that boy george uh is refusing to do still look at his
00:35:02.040 exchanges with random people on twitter and you know tell me if you think it's accountability
00:35:06.060 another terrible thing here is that boy george prior to his arrest and conviction
00:35:09.500 he had talked openly about how he pays for sex workers like open in not being ashamed to
00:35:19.680 say yes I pay for sex work and he even had said in an interview two years before this incident
00:35:27.280 he said sex work is the oldest most respected profession and then two years later he turned
00:35:36.320 violently abusive towards a young sex worker. Yeah. George told the court in East London at
00:35:45.880 the time that Auden was lying to the police, to which Auden responded, quote,
00:35:50.860 do you think I would put myself through all of this for the sake of a few thousand pounds?
00:35:56.560 George was ultimately sentenced to 15 months in jail for false imprisonment of a male escort,
00:36:02.940 a sentence of which he served four months of before being released on good behavior.
00:36:10.040 Auden says that he was in therapy for eight years because of the incident.
00:36:14.540 In 2016, how many years is that later?
00:36:18.060 Nine years later, Boy George was cast as a judge and mentor on BBC One's The Voice,
00:36:24.160 for which he earned a rumored salary of ÂŁ300,000.
00:36:27.900 pounds. Upon the announcement of his casting, Auden Carlson told the UK Sun, quote, my life was
00:36:35.660 ruined by that attack. I spent eight years in therapy. I only finally stopped three months ago.
00:36:41.980 I thought I was moving on until I saw him on TV. I felt sick. It has put me back again. TV presenters
00:36:49.340 are supposed to be role models and he clearly isn't one. He has never once apologized or shown
00:36:55.200 any hint of remorse and another six years later in 2022 when boy george was cast on itv's i'm a
00:37:04.180 celebrity for which he was paid an alleged 500 000 pounds out and said to the irish mirror
00:37:10.140 quote every time i see him i feel it all over again i have a permanent back injury two or three
00:37:17.600 times a year i get a slipped disc i have not used dating sites since i can't meet anyone because i
00:37:23.820 get too anxious. I get skeptical about people because I don't know what their intentions are.
00:37:30.980 It's basically just like every few years when Boy George gets cast in some huge high profile thing.
00:37:38.040 This man who's now in his 40s comes forward to give like a single interview to be like,
00:37:44.880 you know, this thing happened to me and I feel like nobody cares about it.
00:37:48.580 And I feel like my attacker's professional life hasn't suffered one bit as a result of it.
00:37:53.820 And that's why, you know, I said it's like, I don't really like true crime as a genre. But it does seem like this victim feels that he really has never gotten any justice for what happened to him. I can only imagine how it feels to see this person who attacked him like continually get propped up by various communities, various entertainment platforms now once again all over the media. And so I felt like, you know, that we should talk about it.
00:38:20.420 Yeah. Yeah. It's also like the details that he shares are so just like saddeningly familiar to
00:38:27.760 the stories of so many other victims who I've spoken to, both of people who are very famous
00:38:32.860 and even of people who are not, because it's like people like to think of this type of attack as
00:38:38.280 really just lasting for the duration of the incident itself. They don't see the lifelong
00:38:44.260 consequences. They don't see the fact that you can have physical injuries from being assaulted
00:38:49.600 that will continue to like pain you and cause you like costs throughout your life.
00:38:53.960 They don't see how much of an enormous like financial loss it is to be assaulted because
00:38:58.540 you need to pay for therapy for eight years and then any time you see this person's face
00:39:04.200 again, the victims can't move on like psychologically, financially, mentally, they don't get that
00:39:10.400 opportunity and like even in these cases where boy George did go to jail, it's like he served
00:39:16.660 a four-month sentence, his victim will be serving this sentence for the rest of his life.
00:39:22.300 Also, in 2023, he wrote his third memoir. He has three. And this one is called Karma,
00:39:30.340 My Autobiography. And within it, he writes about his prison stint, his recovery. So much still,
00:39:40.680 though, of course, from his perspective has been on how this was a terrible time for him because
00:39:48.880 it was so drug fueled and just a lot of the trauma that he had had from growing up in the 80s and
00:39:57.220 these really, really turbulent times and being a pop star and turning to drugs. Anyway, I just
00:40:02.680 imagine, too, there is a unique position that you inhabit when you are a victim of a celebrity
00:40:10.260 because there's such a power differential there.
00:40:14.420 And also this happens all the time
00:40:16.360 where these famous people
00:40:18.920 who have harmed individuals
00:40:21.300 with significantly less power,
00:40:23.180 they go on and they not only have careers,
00:40:26.320 they write memoirs.
00:40:27.420 They get to control the narrative.
00:40:29.800 They are the one who caused this harm
00:40:32.660 and yet get to rewrite the present
00:40:35.720 and the future and the past.
00:40:37.480 And get to reframe it as something
00:40:38.740 that happened to them and make themselves the victim and it's like as we explore like the
00:40:44.940 evolution of boy george it's like he clearly sees himself as like i don't know if he's ever
00:40:50.220 identified as a victim of cancel culture or anything like that oh yes he has
00:40:54.940 right now he's doing it right now wait wait wait wait did you say that like like do you know why
00:41:03.700 nope okay put a pin specifically in the cancel culture thing because just everybody strap in
00:41:09.800 oh the thing that really like sticks with me from hearing these stories is that like it robs someone
00:41:15.600 of so much potential in their life again like physically mentally psychologically and also in
00:41:20.480 terms of relationships like so many people who go through this suffer to trust people again like
00:41:25.840 it's not to say that it's life-ruining to put people into despair but rather to reckon with
00:41:31.260 the actual lifelong consequences that like this one night had on this man and on so many other
00:41:37.680 people but it doesn't surprise me at all that boy george views himself as like the larger victim of
00:41:42.920 this even though he's been able to make millions of dollars and the whole allegations ruin men's
00:41:48.260 lives not even arrests and convictions do right right right please and when people say like we
00:41:54.900 don't care about male victims it's like yeah we we really don't yeah we actually don't i think
00:42:00.440 despite Boy George's continued busy professional life, his behavior online in recent years
00:42:07.360 seems to reflect an insecurity with the changing world around him and his own relevance in that
00:42:14.420 world, creatively, professionally. Boy George has continued to release music, a lot of music,
00:42:20.940 but none of it has stuck in the way that work from some of his 80s contemporaries like Madonna
00:42:27.540 has. Additionally, the work that he has been getting, he continues to tour as sort of a
00:42:35.160 nostalgia act, which isn't a bad thing. It's a great thing if you can do it. His stint in Moulin
00:42:40.700 Rouge on Broadway, they haven't been getting good reviews. When Culture Club performed in 2024,
00:42:50.660 they did a tour in Europe. iNews wrote in a review,
00:42:54.660 Boy George struggled through Culture Club's disappointing O2 show.
00:42:59.940 When the between song chat is more entertaining than the concert itself,
00:43:03.840 you know something's gone seriously wrong.
00:43:06.740 The UK Sun wrote,
00:43:08.480 Watch as out of tune Boy George attempts to sing Culture Club hits and is slammed by complaints
00:43:15.520 he can't sing.
00:43:17.300 The Times wrote,
00:43:18.700 Culture Club Review, plenty of classics, but Boy George can't sing them.
00:43:23.360 and his Moulin Rouge performance on Broadway was similarly panned by Broadway fans like one
00:43:29.120 on r slash Broadway who wrote, he's terrible, can't act, can't sing, looks lost. Now in preparing for
00:43:38.400 this episode, I spoke to someone who was in Boy George's orbit at the time who told me that all
00:43:46.360 of this made Boy George pretty depressed. And I can only imagine I'd feel the exact same way,
00:43:53.440 barring everything else we know about Boy George and what we just talked about. I can't really
00:43:57.600 imagine what it must feel like to get so famous and beloved for this talent you have and then
00:44:03.720 be told by thousands of people night after night that you don't have it anymore.
00:44:08.800 Yeah.
00:44:09.860 Sometimes, though, being in a bad place can lead you to make questionable choices.
00:44:17.460 In March of this year, 2026, as Chapel Roan was dealing with yet another round of controversies around how she treats paparazzi.
00:44:30.380 A.K.A. How Dare That Woman Exist. 1.00
00:44:32.780 Boy George tweeted, 1.00
00:44:34.000 It's probably not helpful.
00:44:36.220 Yeah, no, it's not.
00:44:37.040 You could have literally stopped there, boy George.
00:44:39.360 But I have been doing this fame thing for a while
00:44:41.820 and you learn slowly and painfully
00:44:43.780 that you don't get a free pass
00:44:45.900 once you turn yourself into a bird of paradise.
00:44:49.120 I watched at Chapel Rhone,
00:44:51.560 filming the paps in Paris 0.89
00:44:53.180 and I laughed because I have kicked off at them many times.
00:44:57.320 The trick is to own your fame.
00:44:59.600 Yes, it's annoying at times,
00:45:01.860 but so is being ignored and told you're a has-been.
00:45:06.000 life is always now and i think chapel looks great but cheer up girl the world is at your feet
00:45:12.700 stop kicking it it takes so much more time to say no to a picture or signature boundaries are
00:45:20.240 boring break them with the magic of kindness oh you look better when you smile also like
00:45:29.040 of course somebody who is convicted for falsely imprisoning a sex worker would say
00:45:41.280 boundaries are boring at least he's consistent i just have to say too it's like yeah boundaries
00:45:48.920 were boring when you were coming up in the 80s and the rules were no rules express yourself to
00:45:55.340 the fullest extent that's not the same boundaries that chapel roan has advocated for in hey don't
00:46:02.380 stalk me and my family please you're not a fan you're a parasocial obsessive stalker and it's
00:46:08.660 scary yeah and you know i understand the anger towards what he's writing here but i also read
00:46:16.080 it and i just felt sad he wrote the trick is to own your fame yes it's annoying at times but so
00:46:24.440 is being ignored and told you're a has-been and i'm like ooh rejection he's just envious that
00:46:32.180 chapel ron is receiving paparazzi attention at all and sort of projecting his own frustration
00:46:38.500 with lack of relevance onto her in a way that is so obviously unfair but also like
00:46:44.240 pretty transparently sad every single time one of these figures goes down this like right wing path
00:46:50.860 at the root of it almost like 99.9 percent of the time is personal grievance and an insecurity
00:46:57.600 and an anger at the world because you feel like you didn't get what you deserved in reality i'm
00:47:03.200 like boy george you're lucky you didn't get what you deserved you deserve a lot worse for what you
00:47:08.320 did than like getting a bunch of bad reviews but also i mean boy george what is his net worth
00:47:14.200 well i mean google says his net worth is 50 million dollars oh i don't think so you don't
00:47:20.320 think so this gets into the whole financial mess that then involves pk kemsley boy george's
00:47:27.900 longtime manager bff who has borrowed against boy george's brand who is against culture club
00:47:35.020 yes wait he has used those assets as collateral which then gets into the whole divorce and asset
00:47:44.240 mess with dorit kemsley who pk is currently going through a very contentious divorce with
00:47:51.080 and her team is trying to file a restraining order on the assets here because they're saying
00:47:57.260 that he has taken out personal loans against boy george and culture club which means that those
00:48:03.140 are the type of loans where the banks the financial lenders get first right in having that money paid
00:48:08.880 back so that money then is no longer part of the marital assets which would then go to dorit i'm
00:48:14.120 just saying this is all allegedly i have literally no idea what you just said
00:48:21.960 what does that mean it's a mess what does any of that mean 1.00
00:48:30.380 it's a fucking mess oh caroline your brain is so crazy 0.99
00:48:37.860 i think this is actually a good place for you to elaborate on everything that you just said 1.00
00:48:43.760 but i i want to tee you up for it okay okay can you please uh spell out for us who is pk kemsley
00:48:50.340 and what he's doing with boy george's career and finances okay so pk kemsley is an english
00:48:57.820 businessman he's worked in property development and he's a talent manager and he has managed boy
00:49:05.980 george on the talent side for a very long time and they are very very very good friends in fact
00:49:13.460 Boy George performed at P.K. Kemsley's wedding to Dorit, the housewife, real housewives of Beverly Hills fans will know P.K. and Dorit from the show, which Boy George has also made many appearances on because he was such a close part of their life.
00:49:31.560 But in the wake of now what is a very messy, very contentious divorce between PK and Dorit, Boyd George has come out and made a lot of statements, of course, fully supporting PK, saying that Dorit is the problem here, pushing back on her and her team's claims of like economic abuse, claiming that PK is a fraudster who has borrowed all of this money against Culture Club.
00:49:57.200 There is a long history here with P.K. Kemsley filing for bankruptcy at multiple points.
00:50:05.120 He filed after the 2008 financial crisis when he left England.
00:50:09.800 I think he had acquired something like a $50 million loan.
00:50:14.220 I'm just going to say allegedly to all this.
00:50:17.640 Yeah, very alleged because I don't think he's afraid of litigation. 0.94
00:50:21.740 But he seems like a total slime. 0.86
00:50:24.640 Absolutely. 0.88
00:50:25.280 This guy is not a good guy.
00:50:28.260 Not that Dorit is great, but PK Kemsley, I think,
00:50:32.360 plays a big part in the Boy George story here,
00:50:35.740 especially the last decade.
00:50:37.340 And we will get into his connection to the AI company,
00:50:41.160 which PK founded.
00:50:43.400 Yes.
00:50:43.920 Dorit and PK have been at war,
00:50:46.560 and one of the main issues has to do with the Encino property.
00:50:51.000 This is J-Lo's old house.
00:50:52.400 The tentacles this story has is crazy.
00:50:55.120 There's so many tentacles.
00:50:56.440 And now there's like a foreclosure issue with this house
00:51:00.760 because they have not been paying on the mortgage.
00:51:03.220 And Dorit has now been claiming that she's been saddled
00:51:06.200 with all of these costs that she can't afford.
00:51:09.180 Meanwhile, PK, who also has a history with alcohol abuse
00:51:14.600 and a gambling addiction,
00:51:16.700 and at one point allegedly had millions in gambling debt.
00:51:21.080 So their teams of lawyers have been going at it.
00:51:24.380 But we don't actually know what Boy George has in the bank.
00:51:29.480 We don't know what PK has.
00:51:31.420 Dorit and her team claiming that essentially she's broke, allegedly.
00:51:36.500 And who knows what he has?
00:51:40.080 She was like a swimwear girlie. 0.97
00:51:42.280 She had like some swimwear line. 1.00
00:51:43.980 And then supposedly she stopped doing her business side when she got married to PK.
00:51:49.440 so now she's also claiming like he trapped her that there was financial abuse etc the lives of
00:51:56.860 the mega wealthy are so strange because and i am not an economist but it's like they're always like
00:52:02.420 broke and like in debt for millions of dollars but also like living like kings because they're 0.62
00:52:08.700 like borrowing against assets that aren't even there it's just so fucking confusing i'm pretty
00:52:13.260 sure there was an episode where he bought her on the show he bought her like a gold rolls royce
00:52:19.420 something just so absurd that they were always of course showing off this lavish lifestyle while
00:52:27.140 the funds themselves were in question and we don't need to get too deep into this but i will mention
00:52:34.020 it in 2021 dorit claimed that masked men had broken into her house oh yeah yes pk was supposedly
00:52:44.100 out of town on business and she said that it was such a it was like the most traumatizing time of
00:52:50.060 her life they stole a million dollars in jewels etc etc there's a lot of details about this story
00:52:56.500 that has fans and other detectives online either calling bullshit on saying pk and dorit concocted
00:53:04.040 this scheme together for insurance purposes or pk did it and dorit didn't know you can sound off in
00:53:11.340 the comments i'm not going to say one way or another well you know who else allegedly faked
00:53:18.060 a burglary claim boy george boy that was what led to his five days of community service but anyway
00:53:26.120 pk kemsley sounds like uh an upstanding guy also of course him and dorit megazinus that's what i
00:53:34.460 was about to say oh my gosh i think dorit's grandparents are israeli i think there's
00:53:40.260 something to be said about boy george's like standing up for the jewish community being
00:53:45.760 directly tied to his bff pk kemsley i think that too i think that too dorit and pk both huge zionist
00:53:55.040 dorit has israeli roots but can you even have roots in a place that's like my grandma's older
00:54:00.320 than israel i don't know anyway when i looked up boy george net worth also a hint as to where his
00:54:05.640 financial situation might be a few years ago there was a lawsuit involving the former drummer
00:54:11.720 of culture club that he lost and was ordered to pay him like 1.75 million dollars and he had to
00:54:19.140 go on a payment plan and was telling like the uk tabloids like i'm working hard to like pay this
00:54:25.060 off because he clearly didn't actually have like more than 1.5 he didn't have that money
00:54:30.660 He's like Klarna-ing his lawsuit with a fellow bandmate.
00:54:35.500 Who is also a former lover.
00:54:38.760 And he was quoted saying, like, don't sleep with the drummer.
00:54:41.580 We all know celebrities who are in financial ruin do extremely ethical things to climb out of those situations all of the time.
00:54:50.440 This leads us perfectly into the next part of our story.
00:54:53.720 a quest for relevancy and money and unfettered access to AI has proven to be a lethal combination
00:55:03.780 on many levels. In a March 2023 interview, George said, quote, I've written like five albums already
00:55:12.040 with AI. AI is brilliant. Nothing to fear. I say to everyone, if you get replaced by a robot,
00:55:19.880 you weren't trying hard enough obviously i care about people losing their jobs but there's so
00:55:26.200 many great things an artist like me they try to force you to work in an old-fashioned way
00:55:33.320 and i'm ahead of them boy george is like if you look at any of his social media profiles lately
00:55:42.420 he is like knee deep in ai slop and i think his relationship with ai is yes uh one that he hopes
00:55:51.440 to financially benefit from which we'll outline in just a second but i also do think he is
00:55:57.840 experiencing some form of like ai chatbot psychosis i was like combing through his twitter
00:56:05.040 and at one point he was like having a conversation with grok he posts a lot of like ai generated like
00:56:12.800 soft core porn of attractive men across his various social media accounts if you scroll through
00:56:18.320 his instagram you'll see a lot of what i'm talking about he generated one such image and put it on
00:56:24.420 twitter which then twitter took down uh for some reason i don't know if it was like an opposition
00:56:29.880 to nudity or graphic content or something. That inspired Boy George to then draw the image
00:56:36.080 himself. Good for Boy George. Boy George tweeted the two images, the AI one and the real one.
00:56:43.120 He wrote,
00:56:43.580 So at Grok censored an image which was AI generated. So I created a piece of real-time
00:56:50.340 art, which I love. Wait till it's beaded. So rejection and abuse can be spun with creativity.
00:56:58.460 Everyone's a winner.
00:57:00.100 To which Grok, the Twitter chatbot, replied,
00:57:04.080 love the creativity in turning...
00:57:05.720 Wait, actually, how should I do my AI voice?
00:57:07.840 Love the creativity in turning that into real art.
00:57:11.560 As Grok, I follow guidelines to avoid generating certain content,
00:57:16.380 but I'm glad it sparked this.
00:57:18.940 Can't wait to see the beaded version.
00:57:21.740 Keep creating.
00:57:22.420 And then Boy George responds to Grok,
00:57:25.220 No worries.
00:57:25.880 It always works out in the end.
00:57:28.100 And yesterday, you accidentally showed a bit of bum.
00:57:32.220 I think AtGrok and AllAI is a great creative sparring partner.
00:57:37.440 AtGrok replies, absolutely agree.
00:57:40.840 AI like me can spark ideas and push boundaries, turning no into new creations.
00:57:47.080 That bum slip was a glitch, but glad it fueled your art.
00:57:51.760 Excited for more convos.
00:57:53.320 What's next on your creative horizon?
00:57:55.880 Thank God Boy George found something to do and did not keep this conversation going.
00:58:01.380 But it was so crazy.
00:58:04.140 I genuinely think he's like, Grok can't hurt you.
00:58:06.520 Grok is not the reviewers of Moulin Rouge.
00:58:09.840 Grok is not people on Reddit saying that I'm washed up.
00:58:12.860 Grok will never hurt me.
00:58:14.080 But that is, I mean, he's just, he's a celebrity engaging with an AI chatbot publicly in the way that like normal people oftentimes do privately when they're in vulnerable situations.
00:58:25.520 which is like, I need this chat bot to tell me that I'm right about everything and that everything
00:58:31.000 I do is perfect and innovative. And it's this yearning for relevancy and I think the ability
00:58:37.840 to reinvent, as well as some shoddy business advice that led Boy George and his manager PK
00:58:45.040 to start their new company, Artist Included, in June of 2026. Now, what are the first letters
00:58:54.860 of artist and included? AI. Wow. That is a level of creativity that I could not possibly attempt.
00:59:06.560 Off the charts. Now, what is artist included? Literally off the charts, like not on the charts,
00:59:15.540 not charting. Sorry. The purpose of artist included is to help artists re-record their
00:59:23.180 own music using AI to create new copies of the songs that the artist can own the masters to.
00:59:31.120 Boy George was basically like patient zero to both test and push the idea that this could be a viable
00:59:37.320 solution to predatory record label contracts. Boy George and Culture Club have never owned their
00:59:44.300 own masters, including the masters to that of Karma Chameleon. And Boy George wanted to use
00:59:51.880 artist included, to revive his younger voice in the context of these reviews letting us know that
00:59:58.200 he can't really sing anymore makes some sense, to create near-identical new recordings in sort
01:00:05.620 of a similar style to the way that Taylor Swift re-recorded her own music, except that she can
01:00:10.840 actually sing the same way she sang. And she's rich enough to just buy back the original masters.
01:00:15.540 And then she just bought them back anyway, so you know, good for her. Kemsley told The Hollywood
01:00:20.620 reporter that the idea for artists included came together after a recent licensing deal for karma
01:00:26.440 chameleon netted four million dollars he said quote four million dollars changed hands george
01:00:33.920 didn't get anything at all i mean i think like a lot of things that people talk about like oh we
01:00:39.820 should use ai to do this we should use ai to do that like there's a real problem here that i think
01:00:45.280 you could critique which is that like people who are not artists people who have nothing to do with
01:00:49.940 the music are able to make so much money off of like selling and reselling these songs it's the
01:00:55.740 same problem nfts tried to solve exactly that's the thing is like these new tech advancements
01:01:02.500 like big air quotes around advancements can't actually like solve these base issues they just
01:01:07.860 contribute to an industry that itself is like perpetuating issues like plagiarism and making
01:01:13.280 bajillions of dollars off of other struggling artists work like you cannot use this technology
01:01:20.160 I don't think to fundamentally solve the same problems that belong to the AI industry itself
01:01:25.760 yeah it's identifying a very real predatory ongoing issue and then trying to slap on a
01:01:34.420 solution that brings its own set of issues I also just don't really understand the company
01:01:40.800 and this could be on me having a limited understanding of like how different AI tools
01:01:45.220 work but wouldn't AI at the rate that it's progressing ultimately just make a company
01:01:50.620 like this itself obsolete well yes because like couldn't couldn't anyone soon enough just
01:01:56.520 make their own re-recordings that sound exactly like the original recordings couldn't anyone
01:02:00.940 just do that without using artists included to me it just sounds like such a scam which
01:02:05.740 I don't know knowing the situation that Boy George and PK Kemsley are in sounds like something they
01:02:10.460 would do yeah it's hard to say how much of it here is from boy george's perspective him genuinely
01:02:17.940 trying to have control over his sound and is uh really wanting to kind of tap back into the
01:02:27.380 nostalgia that has been propelling him for years now and how much of it is like him and pk going
01:02:32.780 we need money and that's what a lot of people who are like ai entrepreneurs are in the position of
01:02:37.960 doing. And it comes back to the argument that boy George was
01:02:41.060 making where he was like, I Yeah, it's like sucks that people
01:02:43.780 are using their losing their jobs. But like, you need to just
01:02:46.540 like learn how to use AI. And we hear this all the time from
01:02:50.060 people who are like pro AI adoption, like learn how to use
01:02:53.360 it or get left behind. And it's like, I despise this argument so
01:02:57.960 much, because it's like, taken to its logical extreme, AI is
01:03:02.240 gonna take your job, whether you learn how to use it or not.
01:03:05.220 like that's literally the whole point of it and in fact by using it and like training it and helping
01:03:10.540 it grow you're just speeding up the timeline for ai to like quote take your job because if anyone
01:03:16.720 can make a boy george song then anyone will and he's not going to get any of the money from that
01:03:21.360 exactly the first product that artists included put out is the art the artist included version
01:03:29.760 of karma chameleon it's very funny how much of this is modeled i think after taylor swift because
01:03:34.420 it's literally called like karma chameleon in parentheses artist included and very like
01:03:39.180 taylor's version but the ai version it's uh it's weirdly flat compared to the normal song i can't
01:03:45.860 play them here for copyright reasons but you can go listen to them if you want or don't i don't
01:03:50.300 really care you know to an untrained ear i think it sounded like not bad to me some people might
01:03:57.880 disagree with that but i you know the bottom line is in six months it could sound i think probably
01:04:02.820 very good at the rate we're going with no regulation, no breaks, no anything. But what's
01:04:08.880 more interesting to me when considering all of this as a business model, in the two months since
01:04:14.920 its release, the AI Karma Chameleon has received 150,000 streams on Spotify. In that same period,
01:04:23.300 the human version of Karma Chameleon continues to receive 350,000 streams per day.
01:04:30.980 yeah so without a devoted fan base like taylor swift's that really like streamed all of the
01:04:39.360 taylor's versions of her songs because they wanted to support her they were you know deeply attuned
01:04:44.220 to the politics of their favorite artists management disputes and master's ownership
01:04:48.760 without that though which almost no artist has the ai reclamation model all ethics of ai aside
01:04:55.500 To me, I don't think it works. The main draw here, according to Boy George and PK, is that the artist will be able to reclaim the money that they're losing out from on their old hits. But people don't want to listen to the AI version. And that's if they even know it exists.
01:05:14.000 Also, he has at many points mentioned Taylor Swift saying that she's his inspiration in how her business acumen and drive to have ownership over her music is. I know that they had met at one point like a decade ago and took a photo. So he very much has explicitly pointed to Taylor Swift and her battle over the control of her art.
01:05:38.220 yeah and like it's fucked up that a song like karma chameleon that the rights to that song
01:05:44.580 can be sold for four million dollars and that the people who made the song receive none of that 0.77
01:05:51.080 but creating this like shoddy ai solution it just it doesn't work and i don't know so much of this
01:06:00.220 marketing that these like weird random ai products are gonna are gonna fix all of the wrongs of the
01:06:07.140 world of business of science it just instead of addressing the reason that the problem exists
01:06:12.280 itself which is like greedy record label contracts and stuff like that it just i don't know it feels
01:06:17.880 like putting a band-aid on a pipe to make more money off of a system that's just going to keep
01:06:22.840 breaking and getting worse unless we actually deal with it like you should have made that money you
01:06:27.340 should have made that four million dollars you're never going to make it with this i feel like for
01:06:31.680 this system to get more ethical for artists there would need to be some sort of collective action
01:06:36.520 among artists in order to like force change from the industry itself. But Boy George's politics as
01:06:42.800 of late do not seem to be in line with collective change in service of the greater good. So I don't
01:06:48.820 think that's going to happen for him. Well, let's talk about Boy George's politics as of late. In
01:06:54.560 July, Boy George, through posts on Twitter and Instagram, releases his new song called We Will
01:07:02.420 dance again. It is a pro-Israel reggae fight song generated by AI. I don't know if I can post it
01:07:27.960 in the podcast like does this have a copyright claim on it i guess it doesn't because it hasn't
01:07:33.520 been released by a record label well that was a part of the problem here well so maybe maybe i
01:07:40.020 can put it in and maybe i don't know uh either way listen to it or don't i don't care he wrote
01:07:45.800 on threads quote the song was created using ai i call it ai for good truthfully i would struggle
01:07:54.460 to write this with a human.
01:07:57.440 I don't know if that's good or bad.
01:08:00.140 I think that's good
01:08:02.020 because no human would be like,
01:08:04.080 this is a good song.
01:08:05.060 This was seemingly inspired
01:08:07.240 by a visit that Boy George
01:08:09.820 took to the Nova Exhibition
01:08:11.960 some weeks prior.
01:08:13.560 The Nova Exhibition
01:08:14.440 is an experiential art installation
01:08:17.080 currently in London
01:08:18.380 where visitors can experience October 7th.
01:08:22.120 And this ties in well
01:08:23.360 to something I talked about in our Jerry Seinfeld episode, but Amy Sedaro wrote about an idea called
01:08:30.880 prosthetic trauma, which is how museum exhibitions and immersive memorials like this can encourage
01:08:37.380 viewers to feel vicarious suffering and how that can shape collective identity, in this instance,
01:08:44.480 Zionist identity. And not only, I think, does it create vicarious suffering for the viewer, 0.85
01:08:50.320 but vicarious anger towards Palestinians and sort of vicarious dehumanization of Palestinians.
01:08:58.720 And like I said, I don't know exactly where this fervent Zionism comes from in the case of Boy
01:09:07.180 George, but I was talking to that person who was close with him a few years ago, and they suspect 0.51
01:09:13.340 that a lot of it might be a product of his association with P.K. Kemsley. The opening
01:09:19.480 lyrics of the song are you say genocide i say war when you're attacked that's what the army is for
01:09:27.400 does it get ugly you bet it does when i know you want to kill every last one of us
01:09:34.240 when you want to kill every last one of us who's us boy george is not jewish 0.96
01:09:41.980 oh my god enough sorry yeah anyway this song immediately draws widespread backlash and after
01:09:53.780 just a few days boy george withdrew from his upcoming run in jesus christ superstar at the
01:10:01.320 london palladium questions remain of you know why he was cast in the first place how he got cast in
01:10:06.960 the first place yeah his withdrawal from this show was announced by pk and also seemingly was
01:10:13.520 a decision that was made by pk pk posted on his instagram uh that it's his responsibility to quote
01:10:20.060 make decisions in the best interest of his artist sounds like they have a really interesting
01:10:25.900 relationship going on there and you know of course online zionists have turned boy george into some
01:10:31.320 martyr for this. He lost his role in Jesus Christ Superstar because of how much he loves Israel and
01:10:40.200 how much people hate him for it. But he wasn't fired. No. He pulled out. The Zionist activist
01:10:48.480 Hen Mazig wrote a substack piece called The Unforgivable Sin about how Boy George had no
01:10:55.360 problems finding work on The Voice and on I'm a Celebrity and in Broadway's Moulin Rouge,
01:11:01.660 despite his abuse of Auden Carlson, work that I agree he should not have gotten. But the fact
01:11:07.220 that he's no longer in Jesus Christ Superstar is evidence that no crime or sin is as bad as 0.97
01:11:13.840 supporting Israel. But again, boy George wasn't fired. He dropped out. Funnily enough, this essay 0.77
01:11:23.820 of, I would say, tepid support was actually addressed by Boy George himself, who responded
01:11:30.620 on Twitter. Hey, Hen, I'm confused by your stance and by the misinformation about my court case.
01:11:39.140 Are you for or against the Jewish community? It's crazy that someone can be like, hey, Boy George,
01:11:45.560 love your Zionism. Didn't love your abuse of a male sex worker. And Boy George being like, 0.99
01:11:51.080 do you actually hate all jewish people right because he's still because he's still trying
01:11:56.300 to deny of course what he did to out in that's why he's saying how dare you spread misinformation 0.89
01:12:03.140 about my court case are you pro or anti-jewish which funny enough is the zionist strategy of
01:12:11.080 yeah oh here's this thing i'm deflecting away from by saying are you an anti-semite right 0.86
01:12:16.720 right right so he's got that down boy george in 2026 doing purity testing with other zionists
01:12:23.920 they're only real true friends of the jewish people if they deny that boy george ever abused 0.68
01:12:29.260 a male sex worker i can't even believe the words that are coming out of my mouth
01:12:32.560 it's also just like incredible to direct this line of questioning at hen of all people like
01:12:38.300 i'm sure he loved getting that don't get me started don't get me started
01:12:42.120 boy george in the wake of this fired a man named tony pontius who is the manager or was the manager
01:12:49.940 of his production company boy george productions in a statement on twitter in buddhism we understand
01:12:57.080 that every action comes with a consequence due to my decision to stand up for my jewish friends
01:13:03.900 I am losing a few people from my life.
01:13:07.520 Today, I parted company with Tony Pontius,
01:13:11.380 who has run my record label, BGP, for a number of years.
01:13:16.580 I wanted to release We Will Dance Again,
01:13:20.320 but he was unequivocal and said,
01:13:22.580 I want nothing to do with this song,
01:13:24.800 and I responded, okay, we are done.
01:13:27.960 Tony's a real one. 0.99
01:13:29.980 I think Tony was just like, this song sucks. 0.98
01:13:33.900 what are you talking about this is a flaming pile of trash anyway he continues on when someone is 0.99
01:13:41.300 gutless it really does not hurt to say goodbye my faith in humanity will not diminish and the truth 0.98
01:13:49.120 will always win. I will release it. It's so indicative of this specific brand of brain worms
01:14:04.020 that you often see with these like random like Zionist jumping on the bandwagon people where 0.91
01:14:10.100 it's like this man who is your longtime friend and colleague who disagrees with you one time 0.52
01:14:17.520 over your decision to make an ai generated song about israel and all of a sudden you're like oh
01:14:25.220 well i don't i don't care that he's not in my life anymore he's gutless like they would literally
01:14:30.160 rather just like decide that the entire world including like long time like friends and
01:14:34.840 colleagues are against them for anti-semitism or whatever then like reckon with the fact that
01:14:41.240 they could be wrong it just is like it's so indicative of like your brain has gone down a
01:14:46.800 very dark path yeah also to be clear yet again like with his uh removing himself from jesus
01:14:53.580 christ superstar he parted ways with tony yeah he was the one who announced it this was not tony 0.98
01:15:00.920 pontius came out and said fuck this shit i'm leaving boy george these are his actions yeah 1.00
01:15:08.740 why are you hitting yourself this statement firing the manager of his record company 1.00
01:15:13.480 was applauded online by Hanania Naftali,
01:15:18.780 a 31-year-old Israeli YouTuber
01:15:21.220 who served as Benjamin Netanyahu's social media advisor.
01:15:27.860 But of course.
01:15:29.360 He wrote,
01:15:30.520 Boy George just revealed he is losing friends and business partners
01:15:33.720 because he chose to stand up for the Jewish people.
01:15:37.280 Thank you, Boy George, for choosing moral clarity over fake friends.
01:15:42.040 He didn't drop out of a show and he didn't lose business partners.
01:15:46.640 He excused himself because boy George is currently unable to release this quote unquote song on streaming apps like Spotify for reasons that are not entirely clear to me.
01:16:00.960 He uploaded the song to Bandcamp.
01:16:05.060 Bandcamp, it's an online music distribution website amidst this campaign to release the song.
01:16:12.040 i will release it he really has reduced the entire issue of like zionism down to like can i or can't
01:16:20.020 i release the shitty ai song it's crazy what's going on on his social media right now but he
01:16:25.300 posted one video where he said quote i want this song to be played in boz and cause and out the
01:16:31.760 window if you would like to have a copy of we will dance again it is available on band camp
01:16:38.260 look for boy george free the number three and it's on my profile and you can buy it's like cheap
01:16:44.300 but i really want the song to get out there and be heard and played in cars and bars and
01:16:49.360 people's houses out the window oh yeah no it's getting tossed out the window for sure
01:16:55.760 what window what he's like he's like everyone like making their summer like beach road trips
01:17:03.160 they're just going to be jamming we will dance again i mean you know what frankly in israel
01:17:07.800 they might band camp happens to have a strict anti-ai generated music policy and so they
01:17:15.380 swiftly removed the song from their platform and terminated boy george's account to which 0.88
01:17:21.860 he responded on instagram what a bunch of cunts he's at war with band camp and i was like i was 0.88
01:17:33.360 looking at this post i was like oh my god like boy george has gone to war with band camp 0.89
01:17:37.440 i look into the comments and who do i see no but also of course the real deborah messing
01:17:47.880 writes at band camp this is despicable unconscionable what about the first amendment
01:17:56.900 this is a song about peace in the future it does not incite violence there is no reason to bar
01:18:05.260 at voyage officials song to be erased from your platform but brazen hashtag jew hatred
01:18:11.680 jew hatred at lawfare project these people cannot be they're not real they're not real
01:18:18.260 at lawfare project at end jew hatred at canary mission get to it fire emoji don't forget that
01:18:26.660 she's tagging canary mission at canary mission get to it for people who don't know what canary
01:18:34.320 mission is it's it's basically a doxing website it's like libs of tiktok what libs of tiktok
01:18:39.520 does to like lgbtq friendly people canary mission doxes the workplace of anyone who's
01:18:45.840 like visibly pro-palestine and public in an attempt to get them fired how do you canary
01:18:50.640 mission band camp right well if anyone's gonna find a way i can also see why going further and
01:19:04.780 into both the ai rabbit hole and the zionism rabbit hole is probably so appealing to boy george
01:19:11.440 because i'm sure this is the most like satisfaction and validation that he has gotten in years because
01:19:19.520 it's like no one was really talking about him before this like no one was really engaging with
01:19:23.900 his critique of chapel rhone or like his attempts to like make more music or like go on reality tv
01:19:31.500 like this is probably feeding his ego in a way that has it has not been fed in a very long time
01:19:37.920 yeah and interestingly enough i was like i wonder if he's gonna like lose like followers because
01:19:43.580 he's he's been just like outrage posting about this every day for weeks ever since he got pushback
01:19:48.600 over the ai song and not only has he gained like more than 20 000 followers i think but he also
01:19:57.280 just seems to sort of like revel in the controversy because at least it's like something that's putting
01:20:02.300 his name in headlines is my interpretation yeah i do think this is a good time to point out that
01:20:08.440 like zionist adoption of boy george in this scenario to me represents the complete collapse
01:20:15.040 of their celebrity PR strategy
01:20:17.860 that they've employed for decades.
01:20:20.280 Israel used to have every major pop star
01:20:23.980 doing their bidding. 0.96
01:20:25.800 Have you guys seen the compilations of celebrities
01:20:28.180 like in the 2000s, the 2010s?
01:20:30.000 Oh yeah, Lady Gaga.
01:20:31.680 I mean, the biggest names.
01:20:32.900 Yes, some people, Britney Spears.
01:20:35.460 Hi guys, we're getting super close to the show now.
01:20:37.460 July 3rd at Park Harjerkan.
01:20:39.100 I can't wait to see you all there
01:20:40.180 and I hope you're all ready to party.
01:20:41.880 Shalom everyone on MTV Israel.
01:20:43.640 I'm Taylor Swift and here's my new video
01:20:46.020 They would
01:20:48.060 announce like their shows in Israel
01:20:50.180 they would like premiere their videos
01:20:52.360 on Israeli MTV
01:20:53.920 now the same
01:20:56.320 community is
01:20:58.060 arguing over whether
01:21:00.140 the Zionist celebrity tent
01:21:01.980 is big enough for clavicular 0.91
01:21:04.420 which was a whole
01:21:06.220 other thing I was like gonna do a mini episode on that
01:21:08.280 and then I was just like I don't know like I don't 0.85
01:21:10.100 should I kill myself and then
01:21:12.040 And then rolling out the red carpet for Boy George's AI-generated song, which has been celebrated by outlets like the Jerusalem Post, the Times of Israel, and Jewish News Syndicate, and by, of course, Debra Messing.
01:21:29.940 Now, the irony of all of this being that in December of 2025, less than a year ago, Boy George tweeted,
01:21:40.700 When I found out David Icke was following me, a big smile erupted on my face.
01:21:48.560 I like him.
01:21:50.440 I always have.
01:21:52.440 Really, always?
01:21:53.620 Do you guys know who David Icke is?
01:21:55.440 Oh, yes.
01:21:56.620 Entirely separate episode.
01:21:58.460 We don't have time today.
01:22:00.220 But David Icke is a very prolific British conspiracy theorist.
01:22:05.080 he his like chief belief is that the world is run by like shape-shifting lizard people
01:22:10.860 think that sounds like something pretty close to garden variety anti-semitism it is he is a vocal
01:22:19.540 supporter and pusher of the protocols of the elders of zion an anti-semitic book from the
01:22:25.840 early 1900s that alleges a jewish plot for global domination and is basically the handbook for
01:22:32.700 modern anti-semitism david eich has cited the protocols of the elders of zion in not one but
01:22:39.560 two of his own books the robots rebellion from 1994 and the truth shall set you free from 1995
01:22:46.500 which led publishers to reject him as a client and he's published all of his own books since then
01:22:53.020 by the way by the way by the way this isn't like niche information david eich is like oh he's so
01:23:00.280 well-known. He's well-known as a conspiratorial anti-Semite. He is fully banned from countries
01:23:06.540 like, uh, Netherlands. He has been banned off of just about every social media platform. I don't
01:23:12.440 know if he's back. And during COVID-19, of course he was out there spreading very, very, very
01:23:19.480 dangerous, uh, disinformation and contributing to the rise of people disbelieving public health
01:23:28.940 organizations and rejecting vaccines on his wikipedia page the section for accusations
01:23:36.600 of anti-semitism is longer than the entire early life and education like section yeah yeah this is
01:23:45.960 who i guess makes boy george smile according to his his own words but like this is the thing that
01:23:52.760 gets me, right? This is the thing that really gets me. All of the, I guess, like mainstream Zionist
01:23:59.780 sort of institutions, publications, influencers online are like hailing boy George as like so
01:24:08.220 brave in the way that he's standing up. And many of these same people, you know, including the
01:24:14.000 author of that essay I mentioned some minutes ago, they call me like a self-hating Jew. They'll call 0.69
01:24:20.020 me an anti-Semite. They'll say that I've turned my back on my people, yada, yada, yada, yada,
01:24:26.200 yada. Like we've, you know, we've heard it all before. And this isn't about me. And it's like,
01:24:29.760 at the end of the day, it's like, who cares? But it gets me the way that someone who tweeted this
01:24:36.600 in December of 2025, like really, really not that long ago, it gets like just treated amazingly by 0.99
01:24:45.140 these people for his one like fucking bullshit ai reggae song you know it reminds me like 0.98
01:24:51.940 clavicular like i said you know he not that long ago he was in a club in miami singing 0.99
01:24:58.220 heil hitler by kanye west and then he like took a trip to israel probably as image rehabilitation
01:25:06.020 for that scenario and to their credit not all the zionists were happy i was like i was like
01:25:13.240 in zionist influencer content spheres and there was a lot of argument over like should we or
01:25:18.740 shouldn't we welcome clavicular into our holy land and i'm like what a conversation to be having
01:25:23.820 you know how bad you are yeah if they won't take you like i don't know about this one guys i guess
01:25:31.920 it just like this is where i'm just like no you guys like actually anti-semitism and anti-zionism 0.79
01:25:37.500 and Jews and Israel. We not the same, not the same at all. Because if you can publicly celebrate
01:25:43.980 David Icke, and then be called like a hero to the Jewish people less than a year later, 0.54
01:25:49.280 what a joke to insist that these things are, you know, the same.
01:25:53.380 To add to the point that he's literally just doing it for engagement as well. Like when I
01:25:57.760 glance at his Instagram account and look at him posting about anything that isn't Zionism,
01:26:02.740 he's getting like maybe a few hundred maybe like a few thousand likes at most but when he does post
01:26:09.540 about how he's being oppressed because of his love for the Jewish people he's all of a sudden
01:26:14.540 getting engagement that's like in the tens of thousands of likes and it's just so like cheapening
01:26:20.000 like it's like he's doing this for attention not because he actually has any like he doesn't I
01:26:26.260 don't even think he actually believes in in Zionism I think he might like I think he's in
01:26:31.100 a Debra Messing algorithm and has been for a while actually. Okay. I guess what I would say
01:26:35.500 more so is with this AI song, I think one, it has to do with the company that they are trying to
01:26:41.480 direct attention. It is a, it is a marketing tool for them. They decided to choose this format of
01:26:48.980 generating AI slop around the genocide of Palestinians because PK Kemsley is a Zionist.
01:26:55.920 In that conversation, the ongoing conversation I've been having with my source who was close to these people a few years ago, I feel so TMZ being like a source close to the subject.
01:27:06.640 An anonymous source.
01:27:08.120 This person did tell me that one thing PK Kemsley is very good at is ginning up outrage and turning it into business.
01:27:14.880 So I would not be shocked if that allegedly could have also played a role in Boy George's putting out this piece of audio.
01:27:23.540 But, you know, I want to talk just like a little bit to cap things off about the sort of continued spiral Boy George seems to be making into the land of AI, especially in the wake of all of this.
01:27:38.400 A cursory scroll through Boy George's social media accounts amidst his latest controversy reveals, I think, a troubled person who is obsessively using AI to feed their own worst impulses.
01:27:52.560 and cat you asked if boy george has identified as a victim of cancel culture well wouldn't you
01:27:59.760 be happy to know that he has put out a follow-up hit to we will dance again
01:28:05.900 it is an ai generated song called cancel that cow
01:28:12.060 oh lord and he will release it
01:28:20.760 i am confident this won't get any copyright claim so i'm just gonna play it into the mic
01:28:27.640 for a moment because i do think it's uh deserving of a listen here i'll do a radio voice
01:28:32.520 and here ladies and gentlemen is our newest hit cancel that cow
01:28:38.540 You are cancelled 1.00
01:28:41.140 Oh no
01:28:43.360 It's too late for you
01:28:52.240 You spoke too soon
01:28:56.040 Opened your big mouth
01:28:59.280 On the internet
01:29:00.740 And now
01:29:02.020 You are cancelled
01:29:04.560 you get the point i feel like part of that song is plagiarized from like a bonnie tyler song
01:29:26.960 like there's like a tiny part of the back like it sounds like a bunch which granted this is what
01:29:31.180 you mean an ai generated song that has scraped other artists work off the internet yes exactly
01:29:36.660 like it's like it's just they're pulling different pieces from other songs and then
01:29:40.140 splicing them together and i'm like oh it's bad as someone who has voluntarily listened to many
01:29:46.180 like a youtuber's failed album music career like they all greatly surpassed whatever that was
01:29:53.300 I honestly think this story we have told over the last two hours is the encapsulation of so many things we talk about all the time.
01:30:06.620 And to see Boy George as really, you know, exemplifying a once famous, once iconic, once barrier breaking, boundary breaking artist to really an aged now conservative boomer mess where he is absolutely looking at the current environment and going, what are ways to gain relevancy?
01:30:33.840 Oh, lean into cancel culture.
01:30:36.300 Talk about how woke is bad.
01:30:38.520 Talk about how I'm a victim of cancel culture. 0.76
01:30:41.180 Use AI, like talk about, you know, Israel, yay. 0.99
01:30:44.840 All of these things that to a reasonable person,
01:30:47.740 you go, that's actually not,
01:30:49.660 that actually doesn't make sense to try and lean into that
01:30:52.780 because of now how it is so representative of a person 0.78
01:30:56.200 who is washed up, who is a has-been,
01:30:59.040 who is so desperate for relevancy
01:31:00.820 that it is just dripping off of them.
01:31:02.780 man you know well said well said as i was putting this together i had the exact same feeling i of
01:31:10.960 like everything that's going wrong with the world right now is like somehow converging on boy george
01:31:20.060 like what hard to believe and yet here we are if i saw someone posting this much ai slop to their
01:31:28.260 instagram account who i actually knew and i don't say this like to be glib i would genuinely like
01:31:33.560 be concerned about their mental health yeah because it's just like every few hours he's
01:31:37.940 posting some sort of bizarre ai creation he released another song three hours ago
01:31:44.560 he said it he says this was released on available on at pay hip hq which is an e-commerce platform
01:31:58.240 with 4,000 Instagram followers.
01:32:00.720 And it's an electro anthem about Amanda Lepore. 0.98
01:32:05.140 Oh, leave her out of this. 0.87
01:32:06.760 Leave her out of this.
01:32:09.620 It's scary.
01:32:11.280 Also, a lot of the AI-generated imagery
01:32:13.740 that he keeps posting on his Instagram account
01:32:16.400 is of himself, but of his younger self,
01:32:20.960 which makes me kind of sad.
01:32:22.960 And, you know, there's AI videos
01:32:25.640 of young versions of himself dancing
01:32:28.260 There's AI images of the younger version of himself
01:32:31.240 with empowered slogans on top of it.
01:32:35.140 And the one I wanted to end on,
01:32:37.520 he did one of these AI videos where, you know,
01:32:39.940 he's de-aged himself.
01:32:42.020 The caption just says,
01:32:43.980 None of this happened, but who cares?
01:32:47.840 That kind of like took my breath away.
01:32:50.760 None of this happened, but who cares?
01:32:53.840 boy george is online about 24 hours a day lately and that's no shade because like me too girl and
01:33:01.780 so i don't think he wrote this to try to be profound or anything but i don't know the breakage
01:33:08.940 from reality just feels not only specific to boy george but very i think specific to the moment
01:33:15.800 we're all living in this post truth post reality type world and it's interesting to think like
01:33:23.320 in the way he's behaving now which seems obviously so strange in so many ways and
01:33:31.360 yet in this caption saying none of this happened who cares it's almost like but it was all the
01:33:36.240 dream this is the most podcasty podcast i've ever ended a podcast doing like i feel like i'm on like
01:33:43.420 bill mar and we're all smoking blunts and being like what if none of it matters at all and you
01:33:50.000 know who has been a guest on bill mars club random boy george boy george i believe we're
01:33:59.900 just going to be seeing more of boy george hearing more of boy george's musical stylings i don't know
01:34:07.020 i could see him picking up like a sort of alt conservative podcast circuit that's the thing
01:34:11.720 is i think we're gonna see more and more of these celebrities who were like very influential and
01:34:16.800 very iconic like 40 years ago go down this path in part because I imagine it's probably one of
01:34:22.840 the only ways for them to establish any kind of income stream if you take this like really devoted
01:34:28.880 like really unhinged audience and you just feed them like whatever extremist form of content they
01:34:35.680 want then you probably can make like some sort of meager income from that so I feel like this is not
01:34:42.200 the end of boy George and probably also not the end of a lot of celebrities like him doing the
01:34:46.340 same shtick there's a line here i see in a telegraph piece that just came out today and it's
01:34:52.580 so frustrating but the line is uh from suzanne moore i'm not wild about boy george nor am i a
01:35:00.280 fan of the song he's recorded we will dance again in defense of military action in israel military
01:35:05.340 action right but i am inclined to admire anyone who refuses the soul-crushing conformity of our
01:35:13.600 current cultural establishment. And I think that is such a twisted and reverse 180 of where boy
01:35:22.200 George was once upon a time as a person who did refuse soul crushing conformity, who did refuse
01:35:29.820 to bend to the will of the establishment. And once upon a time, he was authentic and real in
01:35:39.340 how he challenged norms and how he and others of that period rose up against the establishment,
01:35:47.540 against the stranglehold of conservatism in the 80s, against the denial and ignoring of the AIDS
01:35:55.320 crisis. But fast forward to today, and that is completely hollow and completely inauthentic.
01:36:02.880 well
