00:00:09.560Hello and welcome to another episode of the Missing Witches podcast.0.80
00:00:13.480I'm Amy and I want to start with a reminder that this episode is part of our fifth annual Missing Witches Reparations fundraiser.
00:00:22.620We recognize that witches and New Age practitioners have too often benefited from an extractive relationship with Indigenous people, their knowledge, their cultures, and, of course, the land.
00:00:36.580So every year we at Missing Witches and our coven and our extended witch community spend the month of May joyfully, happily, excitedly raising money for Indigenous support orgs, especially the Native Women's Shelter of Montreal.
00:00:54.200Risa and I pay forward our profits for the month of May to the Native Women's Shelter of Montreal.
00:01:00.260And we gather together with magical friends like Christopher and Edgar to spotlight Indigenous voices through conversations like this one.
00:01:11.560And we invite you, the listener, to join in on this reparations movement.
00:01:16.280Here is a quick rundown of how our fundraiser works.
00:01:19.920One, make a donation of $10 or more to your local Native Women's Shelter
00:01:23.920or Indigenous Support Org, or donate to the Native Women's Shelter of Montreal.
00:01:28.440Two, take a screenshot of your receipt and email it to missingwitches at gmail.com
00:07:09.780Hmm. Wow. I'm like getting chills just hearing that question. Yeah. I want to believe that we're returning to the sacred center, that we are communing, that we are returning back to a place where we acknowledge the life and consciousness of all beings on this planet, that we are exiting the materialist paradigm,
00:07:37.100And that we are acknowledging the interrelatedness and the interspecies communion that is so possible for us to experience on this planet.
00:07:47.900And we're doing that in the midst of the decaying patriarchal, you know, white supremacist system as it like violently, you know, throws its body around and makes a mess of itself.
00:08:02.460and we have to witness the tantrum and be here as the death doulas that we are to witness its
00:08:10.220transition. And I know a lot of us, we are in the midst of so much pain and fear. And also I want to
00:08:18.220believe in the rejoicing and the celebration that's to come as we allow these systems to pass
00:08:26.000and also be the doulas to bring in so much that's been wanting to come through, so much that is
00:08:33.620coming through. And I feel like so many of us as witches, as people, we've been coming together
00:08:39.680through these different platforms and spaces to support us in stepping into this re-emerging
00:08:46.220reality that will reconnect us to our Indigenous sovereignty and also to our ways of being that
00:08:53.140we need so badly on this planet to come back to and I really feel that returning I believe in it
00:09:02.060so much and it is what keeps me going I feel like the web of witches that I'm a part of is what
00:09:08.260keeps me grounded and keeps me showing up every day to do the work that I do and also gives me
00:09:14.800hope in the midst of all the noise and all the chaos that this dying system is trying to throw
00:09:21.960in front of us you bring so much hope to so many people just with your existence and i i want to
00:09:29.160thank you for reminding us that these systems are decaying it feels like the the last surge so we're
00:09:38.220we're right in the hurricane right now but these systems are decaying thank you for that hopeful
00:09:44.520message Edgar Christopher what what do you want to believe Christopher I want to believe that love
00:09:55.260is coming for us all that love is on its way that love is on its way that that I just feel such a
00:10:04.580deep um empathy and like like the the grief of the loneliness and the sorrow and the loss that
00:10:14.660so many souls have to navigate and endure and i just and including my own journey and that love
00:10:23.280is on the horizon i think of um i just hear like you gotta believe like from mary j blige or i
00:10:30.740still believe a remix by Mariah you know what I mean like these notions of as fragile as hope even
00:10:38.240is um as hard as it is it's damn resilient you know and it just has this phoenix capacity to
00:10:47.020like show up again you know it's like I'm okay I'm still alive here okay then that failed or0.68
00:10:53.180that was disappointed or I didn't expect that to happen but damn it I'm still here and there's
00:10:59.900still a reason to hope there's still again the possibility of love i just feel like i just have
00:11:06.380to believe that love is on its way you mentioned a couple songs but you made me think of um one of
00:11:13.140my favorite songs um crosby stills nash and young a song called carry on it's so hopeful and there's
00:11:19.260this one harmony break so it's like four voices and the lyrics are carry on love is coming to us
00:11:27.480all and i think that that's that's an amazing message for everyone our listeners our relations
00:11:35.240carry on keep going love is coming love is coming love is coming i could just i'm just
00:11:42.720going to repeat that in my head every time i need a boost um edgar i'm so happy that you started a
00:11:53.160podcast. I'm so happy that you started a podcast and it is fantastic. Listeners, if you have not
00:12:04.760yet checked out your art is a spell, please, please, well, wait till the end of this Missing
00:12:11.940Witches episode and then head over to another podcast. But I want to talk about this notion
00:12:19.360of art as a spell and i'm going to come back to you edgar but christopher can we ground ourselves
00:12:26.200in this topic from your book i know obviously tarot is a visual art um so there's there's a
00:12:36.840lot that comes up but there's so much in your book about art artists the process of decolonizing
00:12:44.420as artists so i was wondering if you would read a little section i picked it out already listeners
00:12:51.520page 278 if you're reading along with your copy of red tarot by christopher marillejo
00:12:57.080it's page 278 thank you and i just want to say if you would like to continue hear me reading
00:13:02.400you know i do do the audiobook version of red tarot just saying but yes thank you for the
00:13:06.900invitation i'd be honored um so this is from the seven of wands the seven of wands
00:13:14.280is for any artist who wants uninhibited, unrestrained cultural terrain.
00:13:19.620This means the artist's work must inherently challenge the institutionalized systems of domination.
00:13:25.340These systems seek to shut down the potential for the artist's creative self-realization,
00:13:29.920for such systems are always attempting to limit, co-opt, and exploit the artist and their art.
00:13:35.160It is difficult for anyone operating in the cultural marketplace to defend against art that seeks to usurp the real.
00:13:41.160Entanglements within the capitalist corporate machine threaten the virtue, the soul of the artist.
00:13:46.000The capitalist formation of the American project is predicated upon an isolating individualism.
00:13:51.220The superficial seduction of immediate recognition and some measure of attention
00:13:54.860may be offered in a turn that still marginalizes and sets apart.
00:13:59.140None of us are free from the struggle against a profound internalized colonization
00:14:02.560that has a primary apparatus in the media.
00:14:05.320But the Seven of Wands stands against this threat to the artist and their work.
00:14:08.300The Seven of Wands necessarily champions the free-moving spirit that creates provocatively and openly.
00:14:15.020They are vigilant in their defense of difference.
00:14:17.380Artists, readers, writers must be literate enough to break the hold of colonizing representations.
00:14:30.520I, you know, I thank you for believing that I could be such a brilliant writer.
00:14:34.340wow thank you so much for sharing that those words is so powerful and
00:14:43.400uh i'm just like getting chills thinking about this moment we're in and the role of the artist and
00:14:49.400what we're here to really bring in to the world and i think you really just named it so
00:14:56.720potently so poetically that as artists it is such a responsibility to be able to imagine to see to
00:15:07.280feel into what's coming what's possible what we hold together and that was one of the reasons I
00:15:14.480really felt called to start this podcast is I have witnessed the power of art in my own life as well
00:15:21.320in the life of so many people and its ability to transform not only in like your interior sense of
00:15:28.600self but also the world like I've seen so much magic happen and really wanting to remind people
00:15:34.680of the power that we hold within to push up against these systems and to transcend these
00:15:41.080systems and to really use our art as a catalyst a guide and also as a trickster as a way to
00:15:50.760smuggle and intercept and to create openings of possibility and I think it was coming at a time
00:15:59.460where I also was making a big decision of leaving social media and you know leaving Instagram and
00:16:07.260trying to reorganize my own life to stay connected and to build connections with people and I've been
00:16:13.560really inspired by the connections that I've been making through my podcast and through my newsletter
00:16:19.560and seeing that we don't need these mega corporations to stay connected and that there
00:16:25.420are other ways and that there is like a time of like reskilling where we're all going to
00:16:29.940need to return back to other ways of engaging with one another because we've all been so easily
00:16:36.780drawn into these spaces that are in many ways becoming so unsafe for our communities and I
00:16:44.060think what's so unfortunate is that we've all really learned myself included to rely on these
00:16:48.900spaces to stay connected and it is a big um shift that is happening and i feel like i want to just
00:16:55.740really name um amelia ruby from the off the grid podcast i was just on her podcast this last week
00:17:02.180and she's someone who's really championing artists and visionaries to leave social media and to
00:17:08.420create our own networks and i do believe that this is going to become more and more of something that
00:17:14.760we're going to be called to do and i think obviously it makes so much sense for this to
00:17:19.400be happening during the year of the hermit and also during these times where these systems are
00:17:24.660really showing who they are who they've always been in many ways
00:17:28.340can i just say like i i love that i saw you post about your leaving instagram and these platforms
00:17:36.320and um i i need to just fully make that shift for me it's like a you know when the uh a leaf is like
00:17:44.680like needs to be cut from the tree because it's like brown and frayed and just like it's like
00:17:48.720dead already um and i just am so inspired by that because i mean likewise i pour my energy
00:17:56.760elsewhere you know what i mean like i definitely center and seek to cultivate space elsewhere and
00:18:01.980like you're saying the different scale that arises within and then also um this the emergence of this
00:18:09.260podcasts and just like the that i mean i was listening to you last year on on on the podcast
00:18:16.440you know and the sense of again scale like the longevity of the work like the different sense
00:18:23.700of training and the impact and legacy of creating work that can endure which um i think of course
00:18:29.660like needs to be on platforms that we own and that we cultivate because you know they can pull
00:18:34.660the plug on any day and you don't own what you're the content that you're producing there but you're
00:18:39.100also being driven by capitalism by market logic do you know i mean in order to shape your voice
00:18:47.020in a particular way or in order to get certain engagement and then how does that affect
00:18:50.420the integrity of what you want to produce as an artist when you're also like like we are so
00:18:58.620inundated with being instantly validated you know by likes and views and all these things
00:19:04.060and so that's powerful yeah and i just really want to name that it's i have so much compassion
00:19:11.200for anyone navigating this because i know that how challenging it is to build something on a
00:19:17.740platform that all of a sudden doesn't feel safe and to also not be sure what it looks like to
00:19:22.800step away and also you know you named so beautifully how we have all been shaped to really
00:19:28.860be um needing those like dopamine rushes right and um that is something that we have to like
00:19:36.060it's almost like a big i see it like a big chasm to like jump past to be able to then like trust
00:19:41.680into the seedlings that you put into the earth knowing that there is like a different scale that
00:19:47.080goes beyond the like quick 24-hour post cycle right that there is like another way of bringing
00:19:53.400people together that is like more intentional maybe take some more time and um i really want
00:19:58.180of just emphasize that i'm really critical of the systems i'm not critical of how people use
00:20:03.980these social media platforms because i know that we all have to navigate what it means to
00:20:08.600be in relationship with these places and but i really do feel like the onus has to be on these
00:20:14.360systems for shaping people in a certain way and also using these tactics that you're naming
00:20:19.800that are not really in alignment with a lot of our values i'm like thank you i still hear in that
00:20:26.620And also I've been thinking, like, you know, I read from the Seven of Wands, but the Seven of Pentacles as well, which is Taurus, which is, you know, this farm worker, this land worker, this like person who works the earth and his head is over their hoe or their tool or what have you.
00:20:48.240And they're just like looking out the thing growing, looking at how much is there, you know, in this contemplative space.
00:20:54.720and again that notion like um i think that is that is a card ruled by saturn and we're leaving
00:21:03.580the six of pentacles which is ruled by the moon and for me the moon is like the flowers that bloom
00:21:07.840each season and there's just such a different pace but like the seven of wands vision and scale is
00:21:12.780like how do i how do i get a harvest that feeds a whole community for generations to come you know
00:21:18.720and they don't walk they're not walking away from the work either like i think it's something like
00:21:23.720they're not just like uprooting everything they're they're able to like sit with the sense
00:21:29.680of like this hasn't come into bloom yet like i don't have the avocados i need for my guacamole
00:21:34.600yet but like right but it's growing you know what i mean and like i let me take a let me take as
00:21:39.920long as like is it it needs for um for the art to find its audience or for the vision to come
00:21:46.940into place for the discography to develop for you know the range to be to be developed and
00:21:54.500i just think there's so much wisdom in that card and i always think of that card as like a porch
00:21:58.540people kind of card you know myself porch people but we definitely we have been led to believe
00:22:07.300that um we have to have social media or we will perish you know and and that's very real i know
00:22:15.000of it like publishing companies filmmakers you know record labels are going and seeing how many
00:22:21.760followers you have before they're making a deal with you which obviously you know i'm a woman of
00:22:26.600a certain age and i remember when things didn't operate that way also i'm wondering like if both
00:22:33.780of you could talk about like if is there a meeting place between like bravery especially for people
00:22:42.220who exist in marginalized communities bravery safety prosperity what what how do we find an
00:22:51.140intersecting point between especially bravery and safety i think it's something that you know
00:23:04.040we don't have to feel rushed in finding it it's something that we can start to cultivate
00:23:10.280and make small steps to develop I think that there can be maybe a feeling especially because
00:23:17.100you know I know for myself when I first started learning about like the different changes that
00:23:22.100were happening on Instagram or the ways that certain communities or friends of mine have
00:23:28.680been like either shadow banned or you know thrown off the platform and lost all their work like
00:23:34.260I think there was a I have to make a decision really quickly and at the same time you know as
00:23:41.460you're naming Chris there's like different like time frames that we can work within and I think
00:23:48.700it's really important to name that you can be really intentional you could take small steps
00:23:55.480you could always return and I feel like there are ways that we can iterate or try things out
00:24:02.420experiment and not feel like you have to just like all of a sudden make a really big decision
00:24:06.380that's going to like destabilize all your life right that you could make a small choice and see
00:24:11.660what happens from that small choice and slowly start to build that capacity or that resiliency
00:24:16.980to be able to then make larger choices and I think that's also one of the things that I've
00:24:22.020been really sitting with in my time away from social media is that especially and this is
00:24:27.860something I wanted to bring into this conversation is I feel like with divination work, divination
00:24:33.560works in many different timelines. And I do feel like we need space for divination to like emerge,
00:24:41.200like whether it's like stories or visions or sensations, they come in moments of like quiet,
00:24:50.240of contemplation, of boredom, of repetitive motions. And these are things that I feel like
00:24:56.880can be really hard to do when you're like constantly feeling like you have to go grab
00:25:02.560your phone or constantly feeling like you have to go check your email and I'm saying this as
00:25:07.080someone that really loves the space of divination and has really noticed how my like sense of self
00:25:13.540has been like co-opted by these like machines and like little by little I'm like finding less
00:25:18.960of those moments and really wanting more of this space to exist with different timelines and so I
00:25:25.160feel like knowing that time can expand it can collapse and that we could take little moments to
00:25:30.520make big decisions or make small decisions like there's so much possibility within time and i do
00:25:36.220feel like that's one of the benefits of stepping away is that you get to rekindle that relationship
00:25:42.220with time in a very different fashion and so just want to invite that for people if you're feeling
00:25:46.760like oh i could never get off social media because i i would perish which i totally know that feeling
00:25:51.280um just see what it would be like to have it off for a day or for a few hours or to make a little
00:25:57.880small decision because i i don't want it to feel like it's either all or nothing because i'm still
00:26:02.200on there i still post sometimes so it's not i'm also in that place where i'm trying to renegotiate
00:26:07.560that relationship oh it's so i'm just so drawn in to listen listening to you speak and i'm so
00:26:14.580glad you have a podcast edgar because i just need to like go in deep dive um i i yeah i agree um
00:26:22.440i think that there's also having multiple containers and existing like let me start
00:26:28.680it on my blog on my website or something you know what i mean and like have that going concurrently
00:26:33.240or i mean i think we all do but like building a newsletter you know where that's like your
00:26:38.180audience like they're like at least i know it goes to everyone who subscribes like when i
00:26:42.620make a post there whereas like you can follow me on instagram and never see me again which is
00:26:46.960probably the case you know um i the bravery piece is interesting because for me that is so
00:26:53.800much like about embodiment you know again very seven of wands like that it's so when you're
00:27:00.580visibly queer are transgressive um it's taking me like i was hiding like i just i couldn't handle0.67
00:27:07.740that at such an early age you know i mean against everyone else it's like i i was red queer before
00:27:12.420I had any awareness like it was just me like you know what I mean I was just being me and everyone
00:27:18.620was like what are you doing you know what I mean like how how dare you and that was so threatening
00:27:24.180and so it did take um inner fortitude it did take somewhat of like like it's like you're saying
00:27:30.900boundary and capacity work um protection which I think boundaries are about right like this to
00:27:37.780have that inner fortification to be inspired and develop my language and my words and my ability
00:27:45.920to like, why are you so obsessed with me? Like to have clapbacks or to have like something to
00:27:50.200counter, you know what I mean? In these ways that people try and police us with all these various
00:27:56.100bullshits to just keep us silent and complacent and docile and conforming. And I find that like
00:28:04.320the more brave I become in, in being authentic, like I feel this authenticity is a part of it.
00:28:12.180It emboldens my sense of bravery and that actually makes me feel more safe, you know, and
00:28:18.040it can look in certain ways. Like I, I try and push the line with my writing as I just kind of
00:28:24.680named about being provoking, like not to like provoke for just the sake of it, but like the
00:28:29.540sense of you know I want to shed some blood in my pages like I want there to be you know like that
00:28:37.800is where I'm like wow I put a lot in that or like I revealed a lot in that and that is just
00:28:44.400tantalizing and exciting to me in like saying something that I know other people would have
00:28:49.740a hard time articulating for themselves or whatnot it's very freeing to me and but on the other end
00:28:55.300it's like i don't share i've never been one to share on social media like my life or like my
00:29:00.180day or like some breakfast yeah things like that like i just i just don't have that like that just
00:29:06.800doesn't go through my mind like that you know what i mean and i'm also very private in that way
00:29:10.740like where i just don't like it just that makes me feel more unsafe so but it doesn't feel authentic
00:29:16.000either you know um because i do love seeing what people eat as well you know
00:29:22.220we don't do it doesn't mean that you can't just like i was saying you no judgment right
00:29:30.200how do you and this question goes to both of you you use the phrase christopher
00:29:35.600inner fortitude and i want to know how i how our listeners um like what advice do you both
00:29:45.920have for cultivating that inner fortitude i mean you both we talk a lot about how gentle does not
00:29:52.600mean weak and i think that both of you are so exemplary of that idea there's such a strength
00:29:59.940but also such a gentleness to both of you um so how how do i and how do you cultivate that inner
00:30:08.600fortitude the first thing that's coming to mind for me is is forgiveness
00:30:21.040is really forgiveness for the mistakes that we've made in the past for the shame that has
00:30:29.300been passed down to us um fortitude of course we can think of as like a spine
00:30:35.720or a column or this thing that allows you to not crumble. Right. And of course, shame and mistakes
00:30:43.380and self-loathing, um, this punishing voice, this like carceral mindset, um, has us crumble
00:30:52.740where I also think like that having that spine, like I, I, I thank my chiropractor because he
00:30:57.980just increased my spine mobility, my spine health so much that it's like having a strong spine
00:31:03.680means having a flexible spine, means being able to attend to where there's a, like, where it's
00:31:10.160stuck, you know, and how to set it back in place and not be punishing. And so I think on the other
00:31:17.200side of that is, like, just really a lot of forgiveness for, like, giving yourself an
00:31:23.580understanding that progress is progress and that we're not going for perfection or you don't have
00:31:28.560to be you know this paragon of virtue 24 7 but that you are human and that you are flawed and
00:31:38.240that you have been hurt and that you're healing and that you have capacity for change and
00:31:43.240transformation and that's always going to be a learning curve and that like the mistakes can
00:31:47.940be evidentiary of your commitment to progress and having I think just like a paradigm shift around
00:31:54.860when you make a mistake or you're like damn it I in whatever way I'm not in the not in two addicts
00:32:01.460as well but like people recovering but like I relapse in this thing or I made I did the thing0.51
00:32:05.340I know I shouldn't have done or I don't want to do or you know what I mean but it's like okay you
00:32:10.520that's just like hold that but without being punished you know I mean hold that with an
00:32:14.940accountability and an integrity to just improve a little bit more the next time and um again I
00:32:21.540think that type of like self-acceptance you know without shame um without carcerality
00:32:29.180gives you so much greater capacity and resiliency my father was not a particularly gentle man
00:32:37.880but i remember one time as an adult i went to him and i said i'm dad i made a big mistake i don't
00:32:44.960even remember what the mistake was and keep that in mind too listeners like it's years later and
00:32:49.900I don't even remember what that huge life-shattering mistake that I had made was.
00:32:54.740But he said to me, oh, you made a mistake.
00:32:59.640And my father has passed now, but that voice comes to me again and again and again and again.
00:33:06.060And Edgar, like, your work is alien and divine, but so human.
00:33:13.320There's so much humanity in your work.
00:33:15.520How do you cultivate your inner fortitude?
00:33:19.900Yeah, you know, and I was really struck by what you were sharing, Christopher, of like feeling like just by existing people come up to you and say, how dare you?
00:33:29.780email and I think you know you bringing up the spine I can really I really feel like my
00:33:38.140relationship to my ancestors and when I say ancestors I mean both like my Vida Rica ancestors
00:33:43.440as well as my queer and trans ancestors as well as like the visionary artistic weirdo lines that
00:33:51.380I'm a part of and I feel like a big part of my own healing and I do feel like forgiveness is really
00:33:58.200in this too, is really healing this part of me that felt that because I was different, I didn't
00:34:03.800belong. And really feeling like because I'm different, I do belong. And knowing that there
00:34:10.400are so many of us that are weirdos, we're highly sensitive, we don't fit in, we might be like
00:34:16.460transgressive in many different ways. And knowing that there is like a community of us that has
00:34:22.620found each other that we've been brought to each other and I do feel you know the webs
00:34:28.520both like the digital as well as the etheric and the energetic like finding ways to like
00:34:34.740have us all like come back together and really feeling that like that inner fortitude comes
00:34:41.280from knowing that I'm not alone that even if I am the one like weird gender expansive person that
00:34:48.120like might be in a room I'm not walking into that space by myself and I really do feel that in my
00:34:53.740spine because I feel like that spine is such a deep connection to the earth and to the ancestors
00:34:58.460and I just want to say that to anyone out there who does feel like they're audacious just for
00:35:04.260existing like you are not alone you're a part of a huge community and you might not see them in
00:35:11.360your physical realm but they are there in this spiritual energetic realm and you will also find
00:35:16.440us in the physical realm if you know how to look for us or if you ask for us to come we will come
00:35:21.960can i add something to that i just love hearing you say that i i drew a card yesterday it was
00:35:30.320holy grandmother of the weave you know and it's this beautiful big spider you know on the card
00:35:35.800and um again just kind of going back like adding again divination to that sense which i hear
00:35:41.400again in the spiritual realm and etheric realm like um me having a for like divination has
00:35:49.520fortified me so much like cultivating that practice having a daily pull practice has
00:35:56.180allowed me to feel not alone as at times when my life was falling apart at times when i was so lost
00:36:01.080like to really like the communication aspect of divination like in the meaning of the word like
00:36:05.860to commune with the divine has helped me immensely feel like there's a being who has
00:36:12.500a greater perspective or who knows how to, who knows that there's redemption from all the pain
00:36:18.220and suffering that I've experienced and that we've all experienced and we experience. That it's not
00:36:22.320for nothing or that that can be used to facilitate the increase of light and of healing. Like that
00:36:27.260there's a genius operating beyond my own existence, but that I can, that I can commune
00:36:34.260with every morning so i just wanted to say that yeah thank you thank you for sharing that
00:36:40.500communing with the divine is something that i think all witches are at very least interested
00:36:47.420in pursuing as a goal whether or not we feel like we've reached that but i definitely once again
00:36:54.200like both of you have such a divinity that just like radiates out of you but it's wonderful to
00:37:01.680think that you know a little human like me might be able to reach that space too
00:37:07.040um Christopher I've asked you this before so I'm going to start with Edgar
00:37:12.820Edgar if you could if it feels comfortable for you to close your eyes
00:37:16.760and imagine what a re-indigenized world would look like can you describe a re-indigenized
00:37:26.360world from the divinity of your imagination yeah the first thing i saw was like everyone throwing
00:37:36.840away their clocks let's say it again we don't have to rush that's a capitalist lie we don't
00:37:46.060have to rush so we've thrown away our clocks we've thrown away our clocks there's no such
00:37:51.200as alarms anymore and we are living in a way where we know the people that live around us
00:38:00.540we have built sustainable relationships where we show up for each other where we
00:38:08.200understand the needs of those who are in our circles and we understand how we can both ask
00:38:17.700for help as well as show up and offer ourselves to be of service to the community to our circles
00:38:27.680to our webs and also we are not organized around money we are not organized around the greed of a0.87
00:38:38.280few psychopathic cis straight white men who control what it means to be a human we are0.90
00:38:46.160organized around our relationships both in this realm as well as in the other realms that are0.95
00:38:53.280important to our communities and we are guided by the cycles of the moon and the cycles of nature
00:39:02.480and we're guided by the voices of the many we are in relationship with all that is around us
00:39:09.200and we have brought back those reciprocal agreements that are so important that is what
00:39:17.980we are organized around edgar your voice is just like a deep breath it's just listening to you
00:39:27.960speak is i know i started this by saying that i was like an anxious mess and i've just felt that
00:39:35.320melting away being in space with both of you christopher last time we spoke i asked you about
00:39:41.000what a re-indigenized world would look like and you use the term murmuration which is one of my
00:39:47.140favorite words first of all because it's so fun to say murmuration but also like one of my favorite
00:39:53.700phenomena to see this happening in in the animal kingdom so no need to focus on murmuration if i
00:40:00.640would love if something else comes to you or if you want to talk about murmuration again what does
00:40:06.220what does a re-indigenized world look like when you close your eyes and use your divine imagination
00:40:13.180i mean i'm i'm so drawn into again edgar's poetic channeling and envision and and feel with that
00:40:23.940like you speakers and music and everyone making music and making art and all of that being so
00:40:35.380just in like with the trees singing and the birds singing and the animals coming and being and adding
00:40:42.240to the instrumentation of it all again like and then and then the murmuration starts again in
00:40:46.500response to the to the sound waves and and everyone just making love and like you know what
00:40:53.280and like twerking and like eating well and everyone being fed and we have figured out
00:41:01.860how to clean our oceans and to clean our air and how to let spaces rest like how to let
00:41:07.880part patches of the earth rest while we're also like working the land elsewhere out in other
00:41:12.880parts and just especially the ocean I've been really just thinking a lot about and like
00:41:18.820tidalectics and um just cleaning and and repairing all of the the um aquatic kin that we have in
00:41:29.960in the ocean i feel is just a part of it clean water is not being commodified and everyone has
00:41:37.840enough to drink but i mean we won't go off on another tangent because we don't have time but
00:41:44.220But I do just want to, like, use my imagination to slip into the ocean and the mysteries.
00:41:51.360Mysteries, Edgar, your work is on the moon, but hopefully someday it'll also be at the bottom of the Marianas Trench and examining those those mysteries held there.
00:42:03.980Again, I know you both have divinity to embody elsewhere today.
00:42:08.960So, listeners, this is part of a fundraiser, and I want to ask you both if there's a specific organization that you would love for our listeners to support if they feel so inspired.
00:42:25.920Yeah, I can start. I would love to just plug Bates in the Bay Area. They are an organization that works with Two-Spirit, Indigenous queer folks and brings people together in different ways through like art practice, through creating powwows, celebrations.
00:42:45.580Like, they're definitely an incredible organization that I received a lot of healing from and has also connected me with a lot of folks that I've been able to, like, collaborate with, commune with.
00:42:56.860And so they're definitely, like, an organization that's doing important cultural work and also doing work to keep the flames of our cultures alive.
00:43:07.680And so just really want to plug in Bates, the Bay Area Indigenous Two-Spirit organization in the Bay Area.
00:43:15.580i i just heard about this organization the other day because someone emailed me to ask if that
00:43:21.380would be an appropriate place to send their donation reparation and not just all caps like
00:43:27.600absolutely i i clicked on the link and i was like oh my goodness this is exactly this is exactly
00:43:34.000the place that you should send your money baits again listeners um that link will be in the show
00:43:40.260notes um christopher um i would yes uh the coalition to stop violence against native women
00:43:48.520um they're based in albuquerque um but just any also any local org that that works against like
00:43:55.220missing and murdered indigenous people or it's like you'll often get that acronym mmip or mmiw
00:44:01.160indigenous women it's developed i think to ip now but um you can donate there um
00:44:08.800um the there's there's like 5k runs that are organized here but they're not as like
00:44:15.440set up for like like the don't like the funneling into getting donations and stuff like that is not
00:44:21.380as set up like it's pretty like internally organized um so again like the coalition to
00:44:26.100stop violence against native women you can definitely donate obviously that is um just
00:44:30.700something near and dear to my heart any any work and support supporting for women and child in
00:44:36.920Native women and children are breaking cycles of violence, of course.
00:44:42.420And again, listeners, we would love it if you would go out into your community and find something local to you.
00:44:48.860We've had so many people tell us that I didn't know this existed until I went looking.
00:44:53.000And, you know, that's the case with so many like I didn't know that you, Edgar, or you, Christopher, existed until I went looking for you.
00:45:03.060And when I found you, it was life altering.
00:45:05.620And that can be the same if you just go out into your community and look around like you'll be amazed, amazed at what you find.
00:45:15.420Once again, make a donation of $10 or more to your local Native Women's Shelter or Indigenous Support Org, Bates, Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women are great places to start.
00:45:28.400Or donate to the Native Women's Shelter of Montreal.
00:45:30.780take a screenshot of your receipt and email it to missingwitches.com with the subject line
00:45:35.680reparation and you'll be entered to win one of more than 20 fabulous prizes like thousands of
00:45:43.300dollars worth of prizes are up for grabs so we're doing these acts of reparations because we
00:45:49.620recognize that we have benefited from an extractive relationship with indigenous people and culture
00:45:55.000and planned so that should be enough but hey if you could win a prize all plus then i mean and0.99
00:46:04.900again the discount codes it's likely that if you shop at house which or if you want a piece from
00:46:10.140michelle pajak reynolds that um those discounts will pay for your donation and so we're just in
00:46:17.940this watery realm of mutual aid and feeling the tide wash over us and back and over us and back
00:46:27.120and over us and back i want to thank you both so much and no pressure edgar but i do hope to hear
00:46:35.680christopher on your podcast in the coming in the coming that would be a huge blessing yes love love
00:46:44.860love that and again Edgar what's the best way for our listeners to support you and your work
00:46:51.360assuming they've already made their reparation donation now they're moving on to supporting you
00:46:55.980specifically yeah yeah I just want to invite you to sign up for my newsletter and you can also
00:47:02.000check out my podcast and both of those are at you your art is a spell.com and I also just want to
00:47:10.500say that my podcast is on YouTube. And so if you are a YouTube person, I want to invite you to
00:47:16.060subscribe to my channel and give a few views and a few likes to support the work that I'm doing.
00:47:22.400And I, yeah, really wanted to say thank you for organizing this and for bringing people together
00:47:30.380in honor and support of our Indigenous communities. It's such important work and
00:47:36.140just really want to highlight you Amy and Missing Witches as well as all the wonderful folks
00:47:42.220who've come together to make this possible like thank you for the work you're doing and I love
00:47:48.160the way you're saying it is like a I saw it as a river just flowing of abundance and so many people
00:47:54.060are being fed from the waters of this river and just want to thank thank all the people
00:47:58.960contributing their water and their energy to the flow. I mean we're witches right like isn't that
00:48:05.100what it's all about to me anyway that's what it's all about and so if we at missing witches can sort
00:48:12.280of bring that to the forefront of people's consciousness as they're going about their day
00:48:15.940then that's what i want to do christopher how can our listeners support you and your work
00:48:21.980again the book is red tarot from north atlantic books we'll start there thank you for starting
00:48:29.440there I almost forgot about that um I'm a PR agent people are always like not mentioning their
00:48:35.220books and I'm like I'm like oh yeah my book I'm so like you know um I just have to say like again
00:48:42.620get likewise with Edgar like thank you for doing this work and for this invitation for your writing
00:48:48.720and your community work it's like if y'all I'm sure listening feel is just like warmed and shined
00:48:56.240upon and embraced and nourished, as I personally feel in this moment, then imagine how amazing
00:49:03.560you're going to feel from all of the amazing collaborators and contributors pouring into
00:49:08.560this space and that you're also supporting Indigenous futures and the work of reparations.
